This popped up in my FB memories, and is too cute not to share - these were some of the artworks I prepared in July 2014 for my first ever solo exhibition at Red Gallery in Fitzroy. Forever grateful to Jeanne, the gallery manager, for giving me a chance because without it, I wouldn’t be here now 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗
The way I like to work with this kind of thing is; I will draw the outline of the (swan) first in pencil, then freehand the flowers straight in with pen. (I remove my outline shape as I go). Then, a watercolour wash over the top of each flower (I use/mix watered down vermillion red, magenta, Prussian blue & yellow ochre). I do the whole thing at once so I can balance the colours - don’t focus on one bit at a time... Next, I will go back in and add extra detail to each little flower, with pen, and bit more paint, to give it some more depth.
Stay tuned 🌸 Happy Saturday! 🍸🍋🧀🍇
Cute or what! ☀️ nearly there~~~ These lil guys are also known as “clumsy possums” (can relate). Thinking about running this as a print - what do you think? 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿
Regardless, the iconic Australian Greater Gliders numbers are dwindling fast due to government logging. If you’d like more information you can check out https://www.geco.org.au or send an email: https://www.emeraldlink.com.au/contact-the-minister/ ✨
I don’t know if you’ve heard recently, but a government owned logging company (VicForests) is conducting this (rather controversial) experiment at the moment in which it is currently logging forests in East Gippsland (Victoria) - which is expected to kill off now threatened Greater Gliders.
They are supposedly logging and burning forests in the name of research (for the “bigger picture”...) which they think may provide information on what exactly constitutes a desirable habitat for said gliders. Ha. 🌿
Worth having a read about on the google machine, rather than taking my words and thoughts here cause there’s a lot to this story - BUT if you ask me, sounds like a total oxymoron. But that’s my opinion. 🌿
Greater Gliders need all the attention they can get at the moment, regardless. So here I am. Making a tiny noise on their behalf ✍️☕️🌻 Don’t know what else to say, other than... people are really annoying 🤷♀️
Hey! Fancy one of my originals? You could check out my friends at @thestockroom_au - Melika is a massive supporter of me, and she has lots of my art prints, as well as these guys (amongst a few others!). These are based on real owls I met at a cafe in Japan last time i was there (which were all lovingly cared for, promise!) 💭🦉💸💘🎏
Hey fam 🙌🏻 This year has been a bit of a quiet one for me so far, which is just as well, as it’s also been a bit of a difficult one. But I’m pretty tough 🍪and staying positive 😊
I’m pleased to tell you that I’m currently working towards taking over a part of @antipodesbookshop in Sorrento, for the month of September!! From 01/09, I will have a full range of framed artworks, as well as unframed prints and textiles in their shop - should be fun!! Probably the only major thing I’ll do this year so I’d love it if you could come see 🎶 I will announce a date soon too, where I will be drawing in store, if you’d like to come have a geez, hang out (or have some bubbles 🥂). Thanks so much for bearing with me, (and enduring all my bad puns). See you soon 💭 Emma xx | Styled/photographed by me & @taurodesigns | Location: @thenookgallery 🎶
