This boy is much harder to get a photo of these days, but I managed to get one of him smiling, even if it was a silly smile. Today was his first day back to preschool, and he was very excited to go back to his school and his friends. We speak truths over Atticus and affirm him before he goes to school each day, and “you are smart, kind and brave” are among them. So when I found this shirt I knew we had to start the year with it. So we’re setting the tone for this year and we’re praying for Atticus to always be Smart, Kind and Brave and for this little ball of energy to be powerful for Jesus. #AtticusDodson#FirstDayOfSchool
A ‘toast’ to making art you want to, just because you want to. Still grinning ear to ear that @marmaladebleue gave me such a kind shoutout over on her feed today! I’ve stumbled into this little world and community of Food Lettering, and I don’t think I’ll be stumbling back out any time soon. Got any food puns or quotes you think I should letter next?
I’m taking my fun little ‘Jam sandwich’ typography piece as a chance to tell you what I’ve been listening to this summer. In late May Joe and I attended the @upperroomdallas conference. This is a church that is close to our hearts, and their leadership have poured into ours in beautiful ways over the last year. During the conference one of their worship leaders @hannasheets sang a song she had written, ‘Healer’. I loved it so much and the Lord spoke to me so much during it that when I heard that song beginning the next day I pulled up voice memo on my phone and started recording it. Declaring something over and over has so much power and this song does that in such a beautiful way. It spoke so much truth to me with such simple words that in the following days I started my times with the Lord listening to the less than quality voice memo recording on my phone. But then Upperroom made all my dreams come true and uploaded the video from conference. So if you haven’t heard it yet, give it a listen and let the Lord speak crazy truth to you about his power and authority. Bonus fun, play where’s Waldo and find me at 5:12 three people back, by the front right speaker 😂🤷🏼♀️
This feels right, a little dirty, a little blurry, and explaining something to me for the 10th time. That’s what 3 feels like. That and a new obsession with bow ties, dog ones in particular. #AtticusDodson#threenager
Breaking Bread. This is important in our house. Honestly, sometimes it just looks like chic fil a in a messy living room, and sometimes its more traditional- a meal at the table, where we pass plates and heap spoonfuls of home cooked food for each other. It’s a way the Lord has let us open our home and invite in friends, college students, or family and share food and fellowship.
I realized recently that since graduating college I don’t have a lot of time to make art just because I want to. I’m so blessed to have a job in my field, but that means that most of the things I make are for work. When I was recently challenged to make something just for me, it was surprisingly difficult, because I’m so out of practice. So, I’m working on that. I stayed up far too late one night with a big bag of flour and tried something a little different. Here’s to practicing, and trying something new. Here’s to making things just because they’re fun and beautiful. #HOMwork#designspiration
