Our oceans face many challenges. They are threatened from the effects of climate change, pollution and overfishing. Covering more than 70% of the our planet’s surface, they contain the largest diversity of life on Earth and even effect global weather patterns and food systems. With our oceans at risk, it’s important to remember things can be done to help make a difference in the health of our oceans. Follow the link in @world_wildlife bio to learn more.

We depend on forests. They provide vital resources, like air, to all of us, but they are being lost at an alarming rate. One of the easiest things you can do to save the world’s forests is to look for the FSC label. Follow the link in @world_wildlife bio to learn more.

Photo by @katieorlinsky. Sailing along the front line of Climate Change with @seilnorge in Svalbard, Norway. Climate change has transformed the Arctic, and will continue to do so at an ever-increasing pace. Meanwhile, Arctic tourism and business is booming as frozen oceans melt into safe waterways for massive, polluting cruise and cargo ships. How do you balance the desire to explore the increasingly accessible Arctic without further damaging such a vulnerable ecosystem? Last summer in Norway I was able to see one solution first hand. Sailing is one of the most sustainable ways to explore the fragile seas of the North, and more and more regular people are starting to choose to see incredible, wild places like the Svalbard archipelago in a way that leaves a lighter footprint.

This is so heartbreaking 😢 The denial of climate change is holding us back from protecting the earth, but we can no longer wait.

Happy #WorldTurtleDay!
This green turtle is gliding through the waters of West Palm Beach, Florida. Green turtles are widely harvested for meat in many tropical countries. An estimated 100,000 are killed in the Indo-Australian archipelago each year. Their main threats arise from habitat loss and degradation, wildlife trade, bycatch, climate change and pollution.

Photograph by @cristinamittermeier // Leading up to Mother’s Day this Sunday, I want to celebrate the beauty of a lioness’s love. She tends to her two young cubs and welcomes their affections. Like this lioness cares for her cubs, we must tenderly care for our wildlife and ecosystems. We all share this beautiful planet, and without love and care, we will lose the most spectacular parts of our earth. We may lose our innate connection with nature. #FollowMe at @cristinamittermeier to see more images celebrating a mother’s love.
