Repost from @ljt_music (the other person in my head) --++-- Making full use of the @Uaudio Fairchild 670 and the @Wavesaudio SSL 4000 collection, not to mention the trusted @nugenaudio Visualizer 2. My approach to songwriting and production for other artists differs quite heavily from my work under @DraftUK, but I always learn as I go along. Current instrumental piece for a very gifted artist, which I can share because I’ve been granted permission for once 😃

🇮🇪. Lastly: ‘Whilst She Slept’. I believe this is the first time in the @mau5trap's history that a Fiddle was used in a track, let alone an Irish Fiddle. Here's how the fiddle worked. I always close EP’s with something more unusual to the labels style, and something a lot of fans wouldn’t have heard before. As the title states, this was written whilst someone I was dating was sleeping. Key word: was. Now I’m just left with a fantastic composition blending piano and fiddle. Win/win

4 of 5: Tobego (a.k.a ‘Sampled Spoon In a Coffee Cup’). The name means nothing, but the track was my take on a smooth, shuffle-led dancefloor track that could also be listened to in any other environment. A rehash of an old track, this was one @mau5trap jumped at. The vocal is an acapella cover of a song someone put on YouTube, so I done a ‘Burial’ and sampled that, whilst the sub was influenced by Alex Reece’s jungle anthem ‘Pulp Fiction’. The fun part? This breakdown midway through the track contains a foley recording I’d made of me swirling a spoon around a coffee cup. Homage

Next up: ‘Slipping Away’. The one everyone knew and deadmau5 himself premiered on his BBC Radio 1 show. C, B, G, E – with all with a processed sine wave. It’s remarkable how audio can be manipulated, and emotion generated, through simplicity. I was asked recently on Twitter if this ‘9-minute behemoth’ was written around it’s melody: simple answer, yes; it was written primarily around those 4 notes: C, B, G & E. Something so complex out of something so simple

Ah, ‘Bishop Takes King’. The track that took the least time, ended up in a @leagueoflegends video (thanks Andrew), and had *that* transition. To break it down, very briefly, F-sharp/G-flat is a beautiful note, and works so sorrowfully when you partner it with A (and then E). That provided the second movement of the song, I just needed to get it to that region of the scale. Easiest way? Just compose a 20-second descending melody. Simples

2 years ago today, I released 'From Inside', an EP on deadmau5' elite record label @mau5trap. I'm still asked about tracks from the release, so let's break some down. First up: Hermon Hill. In the recent podcast talk with Limitless Vibrations, I noted about the shimmering (and main) guitar parts. Here's a quick insight into the sound design, warts 'n all

No hashtags, no PR. Today is World Mental Health Day. There’s a million varying posts about this today, so I will leave this here. We are all different, everybody experiences a huge variety of thoughts, feelings or emotions, as part of their normal life. But when, and how, we have them can be really different, depending on who we are. It’s important than only you, someone who knows you really well, or someone who is qualified, gets to say when you need help. If you do feel you need help, you can ask for it. I won’t pretend it’ll be easy; Mental Health can change your life, and it can be overwhelming – but someone will always listen and fight your corner. The resources are present now more than ever to help you, and it is ok to not be ok. Always, always remember that

Shared this on my stories and bare people jumped in the DMs. Quick breakdown: anyone worth their salt/musicians/composers/producers will also churn out publishing, or library, music. The work you don’t know they’ve created, but you’ve probably heard somewhere. This could be in a documentary, the background of a trailer, a television advert, a jingle…pretty much anything. I was approached by a new publisher to produce 8 pieces for a specific specification (spec), which was based around animals. This, as an example, is a piece that took all of 20 minutes, and is based around the scurrying chaos of insects (or ants, from my story). The high end, upper octave melody represents the panic of the feet scurrying around, whilst the dramatic lower notes are the body of them working together…think ants in a mound. It’s actually easier to create than people think, although it takes A LOT of creativity and patience to create imagery in music, let alone talent. So yeah, that’s that fam. TLDR

I know, I know…I’m usually more technical melody based, but allow me this one geek-tech noise post. Spent the last hour recording the @korgofficial Microkorg via a @boss_europe ME-80 MultiFX pedal, into @flstudio_official. Odd, yet huge fun, especially when capturing reverb and pushing distortion levels. Now to figure out a way to incorporate the pedal for Wah whilst playing…

Ventured into London to see a relative in hospital (Hi Mikey), and detoured on the way to see parts I’d never seen (mostly). Select shots with the @canonuk. Back to publishing work tomorrow, 3 pieces left to write, produce and engineer for documentaries

Was gifted a ticket so spent the evening at the @ssearena watching people knock the shit out of each other. Oh, and there happened to be some fights in the cage too

Still here. Just a bit more tired than usual

Since the podcast, a number of people have asked on Twitter about Phryday. My debut commercial EP in 2013, I was approached by a director in the US named Eric to make a video for the title track. On zero budget, this was the end result. Always something beautiful about interpretive dance in music - something I'd love to explore should I meet a dancer. Turned out pretty damn nice, with 2 brilliant dancers using their own choreography. Full video is on YouTube - it's easy to find with a name such as Phryday

A few weeks back I sat down to talk with @thehanzford for the Limitless Vibrations podcast. The longest episode to date, we covered guitars, my music - including *that* Hermon Hill intro, @mau5trap, my late dear friend Rob Dickeson (Apex/Oaks) - and a much deeper, important conversation about mental health in music. Listen to your 3rd favourite Leytonstone export via the link in my bio

Returned from Russia and was due to take a few days off, but then I revisited this, and now here I am. Songwriting/producing for the amazingly talented @ihiguero under my alias, utilizing a bunch of appropriate plugins such as the SSL E-Channel strip, Scheps 73 as well as the Slate Digital Virtual Tape Machines. Thanks for everyone asking about Finn too, he’s getting by, lying at my feet soaking in the sub on this one. Bless him

Apparently it's illegal to drink in some parts of Red Square. Oh well. Returned from Moscow, had a lovely time. Now in hiding looking after a rather ill dog for a while

Still find it bonkers that people enjoyed the artwork from my last EP enough to not only buy the artwork, but have me sign it too. Massively humbling. Signing a load now, will be shipped soon. Album still in progress, off to Russia for a bit on Monday. Here's my happy face
