I can’t believe I’m holding this book in my hand. Honestly I wasn’t even sure I’d be able to cross it off my #2018comicwishlist this year, but @jaybee984 really came thru! Huge shoutout to my @comicbookfiendclub brother @rob.is.rob too for lighting the way. Dude! Very happy right now.
Avengers 4, first #silverage appearance of Captain America (Steve Rogers) who had been put on the shelf (i.e. frozen in ice) since the Golden Age...we’re talking WWII. Such a great story and history! Cap was originally conceived by Joe Simon in 1940 and drawn by Kirby, then soon afterwards Stan started contributing stories on the title. Fitting then that Stan and Jack brought Cap back in this issue! “I wrote the name 'Super American' at the bottom of the page," Simon said in his autobiography, and then decided: “No, it didn't work. There were too many "Supers" around. "Captain America" had a good sound to it. There weren't a lot of captains in comics. It was as easy as that. The boy companion was simply named Bucky, after my friend Bucky Pierson, a star on our high school basketball team.” —Joe Simon
Thanks to @evil_chicago_comiccollector @dollarbinbandit @aros_nox and @trudan88 for the #firstappearancefriday tag. 👍
