Batata Harra, spicy potatoes, is definitely one of my favourite side dishes that I love to serve with some humus and tabouleh when I am hosting a delighting bbq spread. It is also a must have when I am preparing a seafoood feast. The combination of chili, coriander, garlic and lemon with the potatoes is simply divine. Recipe below!!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 45 minutes
Ingredients: - 1 kg potatoes, peeled and cut into small cubes - 2 tbsp. vegetable oil - 2 tbsp. olive oil - 4 tsp. tomato paste - 4 tsp. chopped garlic (you can add more if you like more garlic) - Salt - Pepper - 4 tbsp. flour - Chili powder or 1 chilly pepper, de-seeded and finely chopped - 1 lemon, cut in half - Handful of fresh coriander, finely chopped
1. Pre-heat oven at 200 degrees Celsius.
2. In a large pot add cubed potatoes and water, it is important that the water
is cold. Place the pot on high heat for the water to boil, once the water has
boiled keep cooking the potato for an additional 6 minutes until they are
parboiled. You want to make sure that the potatoes are not soft.
3. Drain the par-boiled potatoes and season with salt and pepper and toss in
flour so that all the potato cubes are lightly coated. This is how the
potatoes get their crispy texture.
4. Pre-heat the baking pan drizzled with vegetable oil and olive oil for 2
minutes in the oven. The baking pan needs to be large enough so that all
the potatoes sit on only one layer in the pan. Remove the baking pan from
the oven, add tomato paste and chopped garlic to the heated oil and mix
ingredients together. You will hear a wonderful sizzle at this point. Add
in the par-boiled potatoes and toss the ingredients together.
5. Roast the potatoes in the oven at 200 degrees Celsius for 45 Mins.
6. Remove the potatoes from the oven; toss ingredients together.

The weather is starting to heat up and I just want something light, fresh and yummy. These summer rolls are just the perfect fix, rice paper rolls filled with mong bean noodles, fresh mint, fresh basil, green onions and prawns. I love to serve them with some sweet chili sauce on the side. #cookingwithzahra#summerrolls#vietnamesefood#vietnamesesummerrolls
Dear Tokyo, you are an endless sea of buildings, a fast-paced hustling and bustling city, and yet you are rich in culture, traditions and variety. I expected our trip to be quite a challenge considering that we lack any knowledge of Japanese and because we were traveling with kids, but I was surprised at how easy, comfortable and kind you were. It is the simple things like when I asked someone for help, they would typically go out of their way to help, direct me and show me the correct way. I had a once in the life time trip in this city and country, so happy to say that I have another tick on my bucket list. #thankyou#cookingwithzahra#travelwithkids#travelwithzahra#japan#tokyo
Feels like a view from a fairytale book. Spent the day walking around the city and we stopped by to visit Tokyo Imperial Palace and I have to say there was something incredible about this view. My mind travelled far away into the mythical stories I have read about the castle, princes , princesses and Samurai’s. The landscape around the palace was absolutely stunning and memorable. #cookingwithzahra#travelwithzahra#travelwithkids#japan#tokyo#tokyoimperialpalace
Last night my husband and I had an incredible experience enjoying one of the best dinners in our life at Sukiyabashi Jiro, a three Michelin star restaurant, serving Sushi Edo style. Guest enjoy the food once it is prepared- so this is not the place to chill and socialise. At Sukiyabashi Jiro an omakase tasting menu is prepared, all the fish is sourced fresh from Tsukiji Fish Market and the menu is decided according to what is in season. The most incredible part of the whole experience was to be hosted and served by Chef Jiro himself, he is over 90 years old, a legend in the Sushi world. Reservations are tough to find, so make sure to book yours months in advance and if you get lucky hope you enjoy as much as we did. #cookingwithzahra#travelwithzahra#dinewithzahra#SukiyabashiJiro#jiro#jirodreamsofsushi
Those random moments that are precious. Despite language barriers, cultural barriers and even physical barriers it still is the simple stuff that connects people. My youngest son who is 4 years old managed to connect with a randomn Japanese lady from the other side of the window to play a simple game of rocks, paper & scissors. It is truly incredible how he was able to communicate with this lady despite all the barriers and play one of his favorite games. #cookingwithzahra#travelwithzahra#travelwithkids#japan#tokyo
