I had some free time this morning so I went for a stroll through Buenos Aires’ Le Recoleta Cemetery. It has been the burial ground for the good and great of Argentinian society over the years, including its most famous inhabitant, Eva Peron, beloved former First Lady of Argentina. Don’t Cry For Me Argentina.”
There are over 2,000 statues dotted around Buenos Aires, in its parks and plazas. The statues celebrate the historical Argentinian heavyweights in politics, culture, and society at large. But the warm humidity, acidic rain, and widespread vandalism has taken its toll on the beloved figures. That's where the government-run 'Hospital for Statues' comes in! Each year they repair and restore hundreds of these icon statues to their former glory. I recorded with them today for the BBC, coming soon!
