I just finished my 6-month 1:1 health & lifestyle-coaching program with a client.⠀

I thought I would share with you the results of my most recent clients so you can see what amazing progress can be made in just a few short months.⠀

One client went swimming for the first time in over 10 years (because she didn’t want to be seen in a swimsuit). And now she is going multiple times a week! Working out more than before, in a way that she loves.⠀

Clients can keep chocolate or chips (depending on sweet/salty preference) in their pantry without feeling tempted to eat it until it is gone.⠀

Clients went out and bought clothes that make them feel beautiful! Instead of waiting til they lose the weight, or hiding in baggy/stretchy clothes because it seemed easier.⠀

A client ate the piece of cake at the office birthday party, enjoyed it, and went on with her life. Not feeling guilty, not restricting, not going back for multiple slices, and generally just feeling normal around the piece of cake.⠀

Clients are no longer overeating on a regular basis, and if they do, it’s a one-off occasion.⠀
.⠀
One client feels the best she has ever felt in her jeans! Light, confident, and sexy.⠀
.⠀
Clients are meal planning and prepping delicious and nutrient packed meals that they LOVE, which allows them to not stress when they are out to eat and enjoy those meals fully too.⠀

There are so many more non-tangible results – but each and every one of my clients have a better relationship with food and their body after working together. ⠀

Today in my stories I confessed a weird love I have (go watch if you haven’t!). I was hesitant to share, but as it turns out – I’m not the only one – far from it!!⠀

It reminded me that owning your traits – those things that make you uniquely YOU – is actually a good thing.⠀

It promotes connection between people that have the same traits!⠀
.⠀
And it shows confidence that you like yourself, just as you are, and other people should like you too (and if they don’t – they aren’t your people).⠀

That combo of back-to-school and I-ate-too-much-on-vacation often leads one to a diet.

Making the diet your newest assignment that you want to get an A+ on!

I hate to say it, but a diet is kind of like cramming the night before for a vocab test. You do the work, memorize the Spanish vocab, and ace the test. Then the test is over, you never look at the vocab again, and then all of a sudden you are in Mexico and can’t remember a single word.
.
Instead of cramming the night before, you need to slowly incorporate the words into your everyday life. 
Practice them. 
Don’t be too hard on yourself if you make a mistake.
Study over a longer period of time so they naturally become part of your vocabulary. .
The same goes for dieting.
Instead of doing a crash diet (yes, even the latest “lifestyle” diets are the newest form of dieting), start slowly incorporating healthy habits into your daily life.
Practice those new habits.
Don’t be too hard on yourself if you occasionally eat too much or miss a workout.
Continue the new habits over a longer period of time so they become a natural part of your day.

STOP THE CALORIE COUNTS

I always have to gently remind my clients to stop looking at calories.
.
The problem is you can make simple mistakes when you look at just calories!
.
If you are trying to reduce your calories and you decide to eat fruit instead of eggs for breakfast because it has less calories - you might be doing yourself a disservice. .
Protein and fullness isn't calculated into calorie counts. So even though fruit has less calories, it doesn't provide the protein to keep you full until lunch, most likely causing you to reach for a snack (increasing your calorie intake).

On the other hand, eggs will much more likely give you the sustenance you need to curb your hunger til your next meal.
.
This is just a simple example to remind you that calories are just numbers that do not take everything into account, just like that number on the scale. So stop worrying about them and start getting curious about how food makes you feel.

I've spent the last 2 weeks in two of my favorite places in the whole world. I spent quality time with family and good friends and my heart is full.⠀

No, I haven't been eating what I normally eat, and yes I probably need some veggies soon. BUT, I've still been feeling good in my body and energized despite not eating tons of nutrient dense foods.⠀

This is because I'm relaxed! And enjoying myself! And feeling connected! It's a reminder that food is not the only thing that effects your body.⠀

Time to go out and enjoy yourself, even it means eating things you wouldn't normally eat for the sake of eating with the group. Or skipping the salad because you don't always get to have the best burgers where you live. Or having ice cream because it sounds fun!⠀

Lately, I've eaten a lot of food that I don't eat on a regular basis - it is vacation after all!

But today, I was feeling bloated and want to feel better in my body again. So, I did what anyone should do - ate some delicious nutrient dense food that makes my body feel great and tastes great too!

Life would not be as great if I didn’t get to enjoy one of these cinnamon roll muffins every so often.⠀

But I don’t want them everyday, not even every month.⠀

That’s something people who diet don’t realize – if you let go of restrictions, you won’t go crazy. You might at first, but soon enough, all food will be food and you will know what your body wants and needs.⠀

If I had these everyday, I would be lethargic and bloated. And I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to feel that way everyday. So I don’t crave them because my body is telling me “hey, you don’t want to feel that way!”⠀

Often my clients come to our meeting and tell me what goals they didn’t achieve. Or about the bad days they had. And they don’t feel like they are making progress.⠀

From there, I usually list off 7 positive changes they also told me about in the same sentence. And how much better their "bad days" are in comparison to when we first started.⠀

Remember, you are doing great. So what if not everything is going perfectly to plan? Every single positive change counts and should be celebrated.⠀

It doesn’t matter how long it takes, it just matters that you keep putting one foot in front of the other.⠀

Soon enough, you will have reached the top of whatever mountain you are climbing.⠀

COMFORT FOOD⠀

One of my favorite restaurants is a little breakfast café in Santa Cruz, California called Linda’s Seabreeze café. You see, my family has a beach house in Santa Cruz so almost every time I’m in Santa Cruz, I come to this café for the best chai latte and a delicious breakfast.⠀

The thing about this place is that not only do they have great food, it has amazing memories attached to it. I’ve been here with probably every family member and friend I’ve had throughout the years. We’ve come while on vacation, while in great moods, while completely hungover, while still wearing our PJ’s. Each visit brings a new memory and reminds us of the old. I love this little café so much.⠀

This is what I love about food and restaurants. One meal can be so much more than just a meal.⠀
.⠀
And that’s why I don’t want any of your meals to be taken away from you because of a diet you are on. All meals are meant to be enjoyed to the fullest, not dreaded because you have to stick to a certain meal plan or calorie count. Your meal shouldn’t be attached to how you feel about your body. ⠀
