Education Paves Way To Limitless Life
•
"Arthur has the opportunity and the right to play, learn, socialize, and move like other children in general. We do not limit it even though conditions are limited. We believe that someday, the work we do for him at this time will make Arthur go beyond its limitations to infinity." ~Ranny Aditya @rannyaditya, @lingga47
•
Receiving a devastating diagnosis is never easy. Being a parent of a child who’s the recipient of the diagnosis is especially difficult. As parents, it’s our job to shelter and protect our children from harm. The line between protection and a life without limits becomes blurry when we are raising children with disabilities.
•
A key component in advocacy (even parenthood) and diminishing fear is knowledge through education. The following lightly edited article was written by the mom of 3-year-old Arthur. She shares his blindness journey and how her and Arthur’s dad are preparing him for a life without limits. Visit Bold Blind Beauty (link in bio to read the full article, including the Indonesian version)

How cool is it that the previously scheduled post from this morning about the fear of blindness relates so well to the message in the video below. Anny's quote should cause us all think. The people to fear aren't blind people or people with disabilities. The people to fear are those who have no regard for humanity.

Anny is blind and has attended special education schools where she's learned that some of her actions are not socially typical. This leaves her conflicted because Anny craves the acceptance of others, but also wants to embrace her own individuality. Full interview in bio.

I don't know how I missed this one but friend Nicole has been featured on Bold Blind Beauty and nearly everything I know about Type 1 diabetes I learned from following her. If you or someone you know is living with diabetes it's important to educate yourself.

THANK YOU! To the people that have shared my gofund me campaign (link in bio) to the people that have donated, family, friends, and strangers I am sending you BIG LOVE on world diabetes day and everyday! A kidney will save my life. Dialysis is a treatment that keeps me alive, however the amount of time that it will keep me alive is unknown. The way I see it I am on borrowed time every morning I wake up. A pancreas transplant will let me live free of diabetes something I haven’t known for 18.5 years. No more insulin, no more carb counting, but especially it will give my body a break and hopefully slow my diabetes complications down and improve my quality of life. When my transplant nurse said 3 matches came up for me all in one week I decided to proceed full force ahead even if that meant I had to ask for help. If you can continue to share, donate, or tag a friend below, I’d love to continue sharing this journey with you. Your help means a second chance for me. I AM READY! 💙💚💙💚😘 Special thanks to @t1disabeach @type1diabetic_life my friend who has so much to give and is the one that started my campaign. She may not be blood but she’s still ohana. 🌈

Wise words from my friend Cheryl. Acceptance of our sight loss helps ease the fear and allows us to continue to thrive.

@Regran_ed from @realoneishere - It used to bothered me to get up close and personal, but not anymore. Once I owned my visual identity, getting up close and personal became a part of who I am. You see, at one time I was able to see things from quite a distance, but now not so much. Vision loss changes your perspective and your perception, but don’t allow it to have you stuck in denial. Own your visual identity and all that goes with it. Love who you are in your new space. When you love yourself, others will be able to love you too. So if when you meet me, I asked to come in for a closer look, as shown in thie closeup headshot below, this is what you will see. Lol
Have you been able to own your visual identity, so that you can embrace your new you?

I was thrilled at the thought of sharing the following because it’s so full of wisdom and really challenges us to think about how we view people/situations. Sometimes things aren’t as they might appear. Where people are concerned, let’s check our assumptions at the door and ‘listen’ for the entire story.

"As I was standing there deep in thought my mom snapped this picture. It looks super creepy but I loved it. My shorts are uneven, my shirt is too big and I clearly don’t match but I love how she captured just a small moment of my everyday life with RP. So raw and vulnerable." Reposted with permission. I've been following Mac for some time now. Actually I think it may have been shortly after he got is first cane or AMD (alternative mobility device) it's sort of a starter cane. He is coming along fabulously and before you know it he's gonna be taking the world by storm. He's learning early on the importance of independence and living life without barriers. Now if only we could get the rest of society on board...

Check out my friend Chelsea @viblindresources looking fierce with her multi-colored #WhiteCane. I love seeing people who do not let their disability prevent them from living a fulfilling life. Not only is Chelsea a talented blogger but she connects those of us within the VIP community with resources that may beneficial to us.
