Time to end this week strong! 💪🏼 Had a killer workout with my bro @rjl_25 earlier, then stopped for some lunch at Peking Tokyo, now going to take my furry siblings out for a walk... 🐩🐕 Great start to the weekend so far! In other news, I’ve been slacking a little on YouTube these past couple weeks, but don’t worry, your boy’s got another video coming for y’all soon! I’ll be discussing deload weeks (aka taking a break from training) and the benefits and importance of them, so stay tuned for that! Have a great weekend fam! ☀️🤙🏼

Unfortunately, we live in a world today that’s driven by money and greed, which makes us lose sight of WHAT REALLY MATTERS:⁣

With the rate at which our population is growing right now, we’re expected to have over nine billion people on Earth by the year 2050... NINE BILLION! 😳 That’s insane!!!⁣

Not only is animal farming disgusting, as the animals live a life of suffering and pain and are slaughtered with no regard, it wreaks havoc on our environment and it’s NOT SUSTAINABLE!⁣

Point in case, in one year’s time on nine acres of land, we can produce 37,000 lbs. of vegetables. But, in that same year of time on 18 acres of land, if we’re raising “grass-fed” cattle and not farming them industrially like they’re a piece of plastic, we can only produce 375 lbs. of beef...⁣
⁣
37,000 vs. 375 and the latter uses twice as much land, not to mention all the food and water we also have to use just to keep the animals alive...⁣⁣

There is NO WAY for us to sustain such an enormous population while farming animals for our consumption without destroying the world we live in... it’s just not possible!⁣⁣

So, instead of being so worried about the next pair of yeezy’s you’re going to buy, or the barista messing up your order at Starbuck’s, or driving a “sick whip” that nobody really cares about except yourself; start thinking about the precious world you live in and how it could dramatically change within your lifetime, or the lifetime of your children, and the impact that you’re having on it today...⁣⁣

Unless you’re strictly looking to body-build, the majority of your workouts should consist of free weights and calisthenics rather than machines. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Granted, I do like using the cables for some isolated accessory work, as well as the hamstring curl and leg extension on lower hypertrophy days. But, the majority of my workouts are centered around compound lifts and functional movements (i.e., the use of barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands, TRX, body weight, and other similar equipment for exercises like bench press, push-ups, rows, hang cleans, squats, deadlifts, lunges, etc.).⁣⁣⁣
⁣⁣⁣
The reason? Because the best way to build an athletic, well-rounded physique is to do exercises that challenge multiple parts of your body in multiple planes of motion, and all of these exercises do just that!⁣⁣

Jeff Cavalier (@athleanx) said it best: “If you want to look like an athlete, then train like one!” Get off the machines and become one yourself! 🦁🚀⁣

To all of my non-plant-based followers, I challenge you to step out of your comfort zone and try a vegan dish or two the next time you go out to eat. And to clarify for those new to plant-based terms, vegan means no animal products: meat, fish, dairy (cheese, cream, milk), honey, and eggs.⁣⁣

Always comparing ourselves and wishing we could be like everyone else instead of being thankful for WHO WE ARE... 🤦‍♂️⁣

That’s one of the downsides to social media. Although it’s a great platform to market yourself and your business, to share your life journey, and to connect with people all around the world; it can also be the cause of much unnecessary anxiety and stress because all we see is what “appears” to be, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that’s the way it actually is...⁣ 💯⁣

One of the biggest turning points in my personal happiness was when I stopped worrying about what others thought of me and stopped comparing myself to everyone else. Because the truth of that matter is, no matter how good somebody’s life may seem, we all have our own struggles. Yes, some may be better off than others, but it’s all relative.⁣⁣

So instead of comparing, start focusing on yourself. Stay in YOUR lane, do what makes YOU happy, and be thankful for being YOU! Every second spent worrying about what somebody else is doing is a second lost that could have been spent focused on YOURSELF! So quit comparing and start BEING! ✨😌 #thoughtoftheday

One of my goals this year has been to grow my chest. My physique has always been very proportionate overall, that proportionality largely due to my years of football training following an even upper/lower split. But for some reason, even though I’ve always been super strong with my pushing movements, the size of my chest has never matched. To help with this, I’ve added in a lot of cable fly’s to my programming to ensure that I’m always hitting my chest from every angle.

The variation seen above is a single-arm, high-cable fly. These are great because they really isolate the lower chest, as the motion when standing out wide and pulling down and across matches the direction that the lower-chest muscle fibers run. Moving with the grain of your muscles ensures that they’re properly contracted and this, along with the one second iso-hold that I do at the bottom of each rep to recruit more muscle fibers, is the best way to ensure muscle growth! 💪🏼

Add these into your program and let me know what you think. Start light and work your way up in weight, ideally doing 3-4 sets for 8-12 reps per side, with at least a one second hold at the bottom of each. I hope this helps! Have a great day fam! 🤙 #NOMORESAGGYCHEST @athleanx
