"So what is your plan for 2019? Please, tell me about it!
Mine is to spend a couple of months in some of the most beautiful and remote parts of the Andes. To be honest, I think this trip will be the hardest since the golden year of 2010. And of course: I hope I still have the energy to explore the South American wine industry as well. At least a bit. So, what about you?

"How I ended up on a bycicle:

In June, I landed in Bishkek, Kyrgystan thinking I would travel around Central Asia by hitchhiking, as I always do.

No Couchsurfing host responded to me, so I stayed at the best hostel in town (4.5USD/night)
It's where lots of adventurers traveling through Central Asia stayed too. There must have been at least 10 cyclists.

One French girl walked across Tajikistan alone with zero prep and zero camping equipment. She was done being in a 'box' missing out on beautiful landscapes and people, and hopped out of the car.

Cycling is the perfect way to enjoy the world. It's faster than walking, and slower than driving. Your entire body is engaged in your surroundings. You get to greet everyone that you ride past. You get to notice details others miss out on.

I have only ridden a bike maybe 3 times in my life, but I figured, if I take it slowly I can make it too. I'm not fit, but I will get fit.

Lots of incredible cyclists helped me get ready. One even gave me his old panniers as a gift. I will never forget all of you who have encouraged me.

Of course there were those who didn't think I would succeed. Especially that group of 4 "mid-life crisis lads". On my second day, right after my crash. (I have never ridden downhill in my life before, so I didn't know it's dangerous to go so fast. I lost control and crashed 😂) I didn't even know how to straighten the handle bars. I thought the bike was over. They helped me and mocked me. "HAH. Do you know what you are doing? Well, good luck! (mockingly)". My end verdict is, I don't know what the f**k those guys were talking about. They obviously felt butthurt knowing the truth that a tiny untrained girl who didnt really know to ride a bike could also do the same. Of course I could, just because the Pamir highway is the second highest road in the world doesn't mean it's SO difficult. I came across children and 66+yos who rode it. Just take your time. It's what cycle-touring is about anyway.

And here I am in Northern Pakistan loving life on the road as a bikepacker 😄" | Regranned from @girlgonetolive

"You want to know what life is like on a major polar expedition? Sit in a bathtub filled with ice for 10 hours while starting at a white sheet of paper six inches in front of your face... whiteouts are all too common in Antarctica and traveling through (in?) them is never fun" | Regranned from @elexplore

"In the Bartang Valley we cycled almost all kind of roads you can imagine: smooth asphalt roads(only first 15km after Rushon); roads with big rocks; roads with small stones; roads with big rocks and small stones; fine roads of hard sand; terrible roads of soft sand; sleek gravel roads; tiring roads of washboard gravel; flooded roads; absence of roads due to landslides; and absence of roads because there were just no defined roads. Add the lack of oxigen to the mostly dreadful roads and the cycling was sometimes hard or impossible. When we had to climb the pass to the plateau around 4000m we had to push the bikes for two hours. The ascent was just too steep (many parts of 16% or more) and the roads too bad. We could push the bikes for around 20m after we we’re forced to stop and catch a breath. Yes, sometimes it was hard, but never insurmountable. And in the end, the hard work made it more rewarding and an adventure to never forget" | Regranned from @fietsenvoorkinderfietsen

"Hasta ahora en Ecuador lo que nos sorprende de su vegetación es como cambia en tan poca distancia, en la foto se ve una planta con hojas enormes, 30km después la vegetación desaparece y el bosque es seco. 🇪🇨" | Regranned from @ciclovoladores

"When it's ridiculously hot I'm always thinking I'm more of a autumn-winter person, when it's freezing cold I'm thinking I'm more of a spring-summer person 😂
