Galapagos green turtle. Nearly all species of sea turtle are considered endangered. Their greatest threat is fishing gear. Almost half a million individuals are unwittingly killed in gill nets, shrimp trawl nets, and on longline hooks on an annual basis. #greenturtle #seaturtle #turtleconservation #underwaterphotography #turtle #galapagos #wildlife #underwater #yourshotphotographer #ocean #photooftheday #nature #naturelovers
The Sulawesi black crested macaque is one of the most endangered primates in the world due to habitat destruction and the bushmeat trade. This spectacular creature is considered a delicacy in parts of Sulawesi. The female in the second image lost her leg due to a trap. She gave birth a day after this image was taken, and still managed to climb trees with ease. The youngster in the third image was still ensnared with part of a barbaric hunting device (it has since been removed). Visit the Macaca Nigra Project for how to help these remarkable primates. @selamatkanyaki #primate #macaque #sulawesi #indonesia #wildlife #wildlifephotography #yourshotphotographer #nature #monkey #naturelovers #conservation #animalsofinstagram #animals

Tangkoko beachcomber. A neon-orange trail of crumbs caught the eye of this curious black-crested macaque, who came down from his treetop roost to forage through garbage brought in by the tide. He is one of the most critically endangered primates in the world. Hunting for bush meat and extensive habitat loss due to illegal clearing of forest for coconut plantations are major threats. Even within protected areas, we came across several traps. #wildlifeconservation #blackcrestedmacaque #macaques #primates #animals #animalsofinstagram #yourshotphotographer #earthcapture #wildlife #nature #photooftheday #primates

These big-eyed critters are only found on the northeastern tip of Sulawesi, snuggled in strangler figs on the slopes of Tangkoko volcano. Even here, they are vulnerable due to deforestation, hunting, and agricultural pollutants. #tarsier #wildlifeconservation #sulawesi #biodiversity #nature #naturelovers #tangkoko #primate #willdlife #wildlifephotography #animals #animalsofinstagram #photooftheday #spiritanimal #bigeyes

The spectral tarsier, the world’s smallest primate. Like us, nonhuman primates convey moods through facial expressions. What do you think these two rascals are trying to communicate? #monkey #macaque #tangkoko #wildlife #primate #earthcapture #yourshotphotographer #nature #animals #animalsofinstagram #wildlifephotography #naturelovers #sulawesi #blackcrestedmacaque
A juvenile Sulawesi crested black macaque (Macaca nigra) photographed in Tangkoko National Reserve, the last refuge for these critically endangered primates. Habitat destruction and illegal hunting continue to threaten their survival. #savetheyaki #tangkoko #wildlife #wildlifephotography #indonesia #primate #macaque #sulawesi #nature #naturelovers #yourshotphotographer #earthcapture #animals #animalsofinstagram
I prefer to the see the world in color, but some things, like these tussling cubs, are simply more beautiful in monochrome. #wildlifephotography #bearlife #grizzlybear #alaska #nature #wildlife #blackandwhite #blackandwhitephotography #canon #yourshotphotographer #earthcapture #bearcubs #katmai
This bewitching subterranean galaxy is made up of thousands of bioluminescent “glowworms” or Arachnocampa luminosa, the larvae of the humble fungus gnat. In nature, even a maggot can be a thing of beauty. They use their lights to ensnare prey, trapping unwary insects mesmerized by the greenish glow in sticky woven tendrils. The brightest glowworms are the hungriest. After feeding for up to nine months, the larvae pupate and emerge as adult fungus gnats several weeks later. The adults are mouthless and their lives cursory. They live only long enough to mate and lay eggs, starving within a matter of days. The various forms of life on planet Earth never cease to amaze me. @purenewzealand #bioluminescence #glowworms #realmiddleearth #newzealand #landscape #naturelovers #nature #wildlife #photooftheday #explore #earthcapture #yourshotphotographer #instagood #canon #tokina #arachnocampaluminosa

These ocean wanderers have the largest wingspan on the planet, and can circumnavigate the globe without ever touching land. They are arguably the most efficient gliding machines nature ever designed. Sadly, many albatross species are increasingly threatened. Commercial fishing practices are mostly to blame, but other threats include habitat loss, eating or becoming entangled in plastic, and climate change. This inquisitive wandering albatross was photographed off the coast of Kaikoura, while I rather idiotically dangled precariously over the edge of a boat (definitely do not do this). The camera was dropped and nearly lost, and my peckish friend mistook my fingers for food. I’m fairly certain camera poles were invented for a reason. I’ll be using one next time. #albatross #underwaterphotography #nzgeo #canonnz #wildlife #kaikoura #yourshotphotographer #naturelovers #oceanlife #earthcapture @purenewzealand #nature #yourbestbirds #bird #birdsofinstagram #animals #photooftheday #seabird
