This movie is like coming home to my childhood self. I discovered it when I was ten, and even though it was creepy at times, I couldn’t stop renting it from Blockbuster. I saved my money for the deluxe double cd, and played it on loop. The music moved something in me that fueled my first choreography project. (NOT to Ease on Down!) Watching it years later in my own backyard was powerful, and the overture made me bawl. Call it camp, cheesy, a stoner flick, I will always love everything about The Wiz. (Bonus! Quick dance party right before the show starts, with a cameo from Cactus Pete!) #bryantpark#bpfilmfest#thewiz#home#1978#graffitimunchkins#ificouldfeel#easeondown#toto#letsdance#cactuspete
I ask you, on the longest, lightest day of the year, what lights you UP? What gets you excited about living, being, working in this maddening world? I find light in knowing that, many years ago, I found home without even trying. I have roots. Family history. My own history. And my future. No matter where I go, I’ll always come back. Happy Summer Solstice to everyone! 💙 #Brooklyn#summersolstice#sappypost#whatlightsyouup#lettherebelight
Reason 602 why I love traveling: A good impromptu reunion! Saw my first NYC roommate, Katy, from our summer internships in college, and met her hubs and her four beautiful babies! No time has passed. Here’s to reminiscing about navigating the city without smartphones, buttercup bakery, midnight coffee and donuts, and freaking out when tourists thought we were locals. I’m lucky. #reunited#torchystacos#nyctoaustin#college#2006
My #topnine2017 consists of a @caitlincannonphotography throwback, @ferrantetodd shoot, closing time on Sesame Street, a NYE throwback, a still from a video teaching fierce beginners at @bdcnyc, @laducashoes sale, another still from what (might) be my favorite combo I’ve taught to-date, @ferrantetodd again, and summer in the city. Nice to look back, and jazzed to move forward.
