“Reflecting on the sound of Rain” — growing up in the tropical climate of South East Asia, I’ve always loved the monsoon season. And the Mexican Caribbean is no exception. A very moody and mysterious time of the year. Weekends spent inside watching and listening to the seemingly never-ending rain.
“Rhythm” - There is a familiar pattern to our daily routines. Observing and paying attention to those early morning harmonies created by lines, forms, lights, sounds, movements, has become my own form of meditation.
“Filtered” - new painting. As opposed to a photograph that captures a moment that’s gone forever, a painting deals with the past, present and then becomes an ongoing meditation on an experience. It is timeless.
‘Dreamscape’ - Ok so I’ve not posted for a while. My current work has been changing and for some time now I’ve been working on a more intuitive way of painting. It hasn’t happened over night. My background is so rooted in recording from observation that it’s been a frightening but extremely liberating to just let go and trust the images that come from my memories. These new works are painted quite directly from my head but not from a real subject. Inevitably as the painting develops, suggestions of the places and objects I have experienced appear in the works. And occasionally a drawing in my visual journal might inspire me. I’m not longer really dealing with a moment of recognition, but the experiences that have been sitting in my brain for some time. Here is a work in progress. Any feedback appreciated.
