Today is the start of National Zookeeper Week and I’d like to send my thanks and appreciation to all the animal caretakers around the world. Thank you for giving your lives to these animals, educating the public on conservation and wildlife biology/behavior, and inspiring people of all ages, especially children, to care and be passionate about the world’s creatures.
Today we checked out the OC Zoo at Irvine Regional Park. I’m not a big fan of zoos but I do like the work they do here. All of the animals here are either injured, orphaned, or abandoned and are unable to live in the wild on their own.🤗
They have black 🐻, mountain 🦁, bald 🦅 , turkey vultures , barn 🦉, porcupines, coyotes, mule 🦌, bobcats, and lots of 🦎. There is a barnyard area with 🐐, 🐑, and potbellied 🐷. You can purchase feed for 25 cents a handful. It costs $2 per person (2 and under free) and $3-$5 parking. 💰
Outside of the zoo area is a concession stand, a small lake where you can rent boats, bike rentals, and a playground area for kids. There are wild peacocks walking around the park too! Great for families.
