While I’m visiting family I will be helping my mom and sister declutter a lot. Today we tackled a massive stack of water bottles and coffee cups. A lot of these haven’t been used since before I moved a few years ago. We got them to half of what is in this picture and everything else is getting donated. I’m so excited that my family is starting to accept the low waste and more minimal lifestyle that I’ve been sharing with them and are asking for my help. Things like this are why I share this lifestyle with those around me.
Vegan ginger and garlic soup! Super simple:
Ginger (i used 3 spoons of fresh cut)
Juice from 2 lemons
4 spoons canola oil
1 package of soy milk unsweetened
2 spoons soy sauce
1 cube of broth or make your own
Salt, pepper and persley to taste.
Start with oil, ginger and garlic. Then rutabaga and carrots cut in small pieces. Blend in soy milk or other product smilar to this. Then add the rest of the ingrediens. Use a handblender when the vegtables are soft enough!
Smoothie Bombs are about making the smoothie process easier and faster for you. No more having to buy the individual ingredients and measuring them out! Just add 1 Bomb that has it all 👌

Did you know about carbon offsetting? When you travel, especially as much as I seem to, you leave more carbon emissions in your trail than you do flatulence after a hearty meal of beans.
Soooo, what to do? Well, there are a few things.
1) Pack lighter. You don’t need all that stuff! I have a sheet that I use every time I pack. Something likely purchased at Anthropologie back in the day. At the bottom is says “Take half of what you think you need, and twice as much money.” Rules for any traveler to live by. I don’t take more than a backpack and carry-on, no matter how long I’m gone. (Pro tip: the loner you’re traveling, the less you should bring! Mobility is everything.)
2) Bring your own reusable items. Things I never leave the country without include my reusable, insulated @kleankanteen, my @togoware, and some homemade toothpaste.
3) Offset your carbon emissions using sites like Terrapass, or plant your own trees. You can also choose wisely... trains emit FAR LESS than planes. Walk the city you’re visiting more rather than taxiing, and seek out accommodations that prioritize the environment.
Europe... Me and my sustainable ass are comin for you.
Life isn’t perfect but your outfit can be 💯.

Fresh, green herbs from @oooobysyd this week. I know coriander is divisive, but I love it! Instantly adds flavour and a bit of sparke to a stir fry. Parsley also packs a punch and goes perfectly in salads or as a topper in winter soups and stews. I also got a huge bunch of rocket in my box this week, which is peppery and oh so different to the shop bought stuff! Definitely going to keep adding these as extras to my delivery 🌱
My plan is to start growing these in our itty bitty city backyard too. At the moment I’m concentrating on getting my sharehouse to start using the new compost system I’ve introduced, which will hopefully fertilise our future plant friends. Yes, I’m THAT housemate - the recycling, composting, REDcycling, rubbish policewoman, someone’s gotta be👮♀️ I store fresh herbs in the drive wrapped in a bit of damp paper towel and wrapped again in my beeswax wraps. I find they can stay fresh like that for two weeks. If they’ve still go their root system, you can also store them in a jar with water on the bench top 🌱
If you’ve been following along with me, you know I freaking love savvy minerals make up. I never thought I’d “love” any make up brand. No matter what brand I bought, it caused my sensitive skin to itch, sting, and break out. Well this hasn’t been the cause with savvy minerals. Even though it’s mineral make up, I feel like it gives me the coverage I need without completing changing how I look with and without makeup. I never worry about this makeup breaking me out or making my eyes itch and water if I’ve been wearing it for a long time. I’ve been struggling with crazy discoloration and break outs but the foundation not only hides this, but actually soothes it.

My amazing climate scientist stepmother @jenmoody0 is now volunteering with @generation.180 , an organization working to shift the culture surrounding energy awareness.
They’re running a creative campaign this summer called “keep it cool” to raise awareness about the ridiculous amount of energy wasted by businesses running their AC and keeping their front doors open in the summer. Shoppers (YOU?) can let gen180 know which businesses have doors open and which have doors closed.
In their words: “For stores with doors that are kept closed, Generation 180 will send them an affirmation for their energy-conscious behavior and place a pin on our campaign map that promotes their location. We will reach out to remind retailers with their doors open to close their door to conserve energy.” (They also send a note letting businesses know how much $$$ they will save by keeping their doors closed!!) If you’re looking to do more than just drop a pin, they’d love to have you!! Check it out at https://www.generation180.org/keep-it-cool .
The 2017 Nostradamus of fantasy surfer, Pete the pirate recently snapped his leash. Thanks to @smartleashco separate parts, he was able to simply replace the broken urethane cord via a fin key. He was stoked that he saved money and more importantly reduced unnecessary landfill ♻👊

Wholesome smoothie bowl with toppings from @thesourcebulkfoods ☀️
Although it’s a school day today, I’m at home eating a yummy smoothie bowl because I wasn’t feeling 100%, mentally, when I woke up this morning. I decided to stay home and take it easy so I could relax and be refreshed for tomorrow, because IMO I don’t think there’s any point in going to school if I’m going to be zoning out during class anyway. .
Super rad thing about this smoothie: all the toppings were bought without packaging, and most of the actual ingredients were as well. All bought my favourite zero-waste store @thesourcebulkfoods and stored in Ikea jars. 😻
If you don’t buy your ingredients in bulk already, and you have access to a bulk foods store, I really encourage you to try it out! Not only is it usually a cheaper option to purchase organic, but you’re also reducing your plastic consumption and thus your impact on the earth 🌏. .
I hope you have a lovely morning, afternoon or evening wherever you are in the world. Seeya!
☕️ On the search for: reusable coffee cup recommendations ☕️ -
Can anyone recommend a brand of reusable coffee cup that comes in 16oz size (glass free is preferable but not necessary)? I’ve seen so many gorgeous ones lately, but aren’t big enough so I’m not sure if it’s a sign I need to cut my coffee consumption down or just keep looking 🤔😂
#azerowastelifebook - TIP 9: Bring your own bottle!
I bring my @thesourcebulkfoods bottle with me everywhere! For the airport, I empty the drink bottle beforehand and I fill it up after I pass through security. An easy tip is to ask staff where the closest water fountain is!
I’ve never had any issues in any airport bringing an empty drink bottle, doesn’t matter if has been glass or stainless steel. I’ve travelled around the world including Iceland, London, Dubai and Fiji and this has been my favourite zero waste travel tip!
For more zero waste travel hacks, check out my new book ‘A Zero Waste Life: in thirty days’. Details for purchases can be found in the bio!
What a weekend! Big shout outs to @itskaynor and @g_o_o_m_b_a for blessing our walls with their amazing work. We are far from done, but considering what this place looked like when we first opened, we're really proud of its progression. Lots more to come!
This is not today’s grocery haul. It’s last week’s. See my stories for what happened to this week’s shopping trip. 🙄🙈 But this is a typical week’s picks, and i thought it would be worthing saying as I post these #twfdgroceryhaul pics that it wasn’t at ALL what my shops looked like a year ago. Our journey towards #plasticfree and #zerowaste has only really been in the last year, and before that this was a whole lot of mostly Trader Joe’s plastic. But a year of small steps and thinking differently leads to this 👆🏼basically plastic + waste free shops each week. We create about one small can of trash every 2-3 weeks which is a still ton by zero wasters standards but SO much less than we add to. So many of you have messaged us about your steps to going plastic/waste free - who’s on the journey? What’s your step? What’s the best thing you’ve found as a hack or solution? Or what would help you on the journey?! Or any other questions! #plasticfree

🌳 Passing to single use plastic should be our goal this year! It’s not too late to make a switch. There isn’t a specific date that only allows you to change, the change should be within you. You could even change today if wanted to! Let’s try to use this words more (picture) this year. Like I always said even the simplest switch can make a difference especially if all of us the took that switch.
