We attended an inauguration and building opening ceremony for my friend's grandfather, Juan Acereto Manzanilla. He's a famous musician with a lot of history and good works in Dzilam De Bravo! He grew up there and returned to the area at the age of 80, and his name is on several buildings. He's a pretty big deal!
There were some enjoyable traditional performances held in front of the newly dedicated cultural center. The traditional outfits were beautiful and are the equivalent of wearing a hanbok to a formal or important event in Korea.

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood~ My lovely pork-swollen face ^^ But I'm happy.
Actually we drove quite far away from the neighborhood today to reach a new area called Dzilan De Bravo. These are the sights along the way!
The weather was windy but hot and sunny, which made up for us being unexpectedly stuck inside yesterday. But the rest day was much needed in preparation for our long outing and event today.

I have to be honest, I was afraid to be disappointed before going to see Chichen Itza. I had so many people telling me it is overrated, overcrowded and not that impressive. I always try to keep my mind clear and wait to make my own opinion. I'm glad I did. .
I understand why people would say that, but at the same time I understand why it is a New Wonder Of The World. It's shape is magnificent and perfect. The structure of the pyramid is really beautiful. .
Funny fact, if you stand in front of the stairs, in the middle and you clap in your hands, the acoustic of the pyramid will make a sound resonating around! .
Another fact, Chichen Itza was built by the Mayans. But when the Aztecs took over, they rebuilt a pyramid on the top of chichen itza. A characteristic of a Aztec pyramids is that there is 4 pairs of stairs. That is why Chichen Itza has 4 pair of stairs while all the other pyramids in Yucatan have only one pair of stairs. .
Yucatán Peninsula - Cancún
Cancún has been a hotspot for getaways for a while now, and honestly that’s why I avoided coming here until now. I gravitate toward exotic cultures and like to go places that aren’t super touristy. I wasn’t really sure what to expect. My boyfriend and I booked it because it was the place we could get to the fastest in order to have the most time together for a 4 day weekend (direct flight on Thanksgiving Day). I knew the sand would be white and waters would be super blue. Coming to Cancun, I realized this is one awesome destination and I can not believe I haven’t been here sooner! The water is the bluest water I’ve seen anywhere, it’s clean, and the beaches go on forever.
The thing I loved most about Cancun was the opportunity for recreation (paragliding, jet skiing, snorkeling) and these views. Being up here we had wide open skies for miles, unlike neighboring Tulum where we were hanging out in the jungle surrounded by trees. In Cancun you’re surrounded by white sand and blue for as far as you can see. And our hotel told us turtles come out on the beach every night to lay eggs this time of year. We didn’t find the turtles but we spent the night walking on the beach looking for them and then crashed on some beach chairs while we watched the ocean under the moonlight. 🌙
I was delighted by Cancun and will definitely go back. And we had a few people recommended Coco Bongo which will be on the list for next time!
