In 1957, Swami Vishnudevananda on instructions from his guru, Swami Sivananda, came to the West to bring the teachings of yoga. He established the first Sivananda Yoga Vedanta centre in Montreal, Canada, in 1959 and to date there are close to 60 Sivananda locations (ashrams, yoga centres and affiliated centres) around the world. Over 35,000 teachers have been trained in the TTC programs.
The Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashrams and Centres are recognized worldwide for teaching yoga authentically, preserving its purity and tradition dating back several thousand years. They also offer a wide range of programs and even the possibility for spiritual growth through Karma yoga as a temporary or full time staff program participant.
Swami Vishnudevananda made the yogic teachings understandable and available to all by simplifying them into five points, showing specific ways to develop physical and mental health as well as spiritual growth through ~ Proper Exercise (Asanas), Proper Breathing (Pranayama), Proper Relaxation (Savasana), Proper Diet (vegetarian), Positive Thinking (Vedanta) and Meditation (Dhyana). Together with Swami Sivananda's revival of the yoga of synthesis tradition, which integrates the four paths of Yoga (Karma, Bhakti, Raja, Jnana), a well-balanced Sadhana (spiritual discipline) is achievable by those sincerely seeking for a change in their lives.

University Park resident Kelsey Starr opened @NumiYoga in @collegeparkmd at 4513 College Ave. two years ago this month. It’s centrally located for students at @univofmaryland, but it has also become a frequent partner with other businesses along the Route 1 corridor in an effort to attract members of the community who aren’t affiliated with the university. Among other things, Numi Yoga runs a book club where participants read books like the #BhagavadGita , offers infant massage classes and even has a Numi Yoga Teacher Training Institute as registered with the Yoga School with @YogaAlliance. And it has already partnered with @milkboyarthouse on after-work “Pints + Poses” events featuring an hour of yoga followed by drink specials, held a “Yoga at the Farm” event at Mount Rainier’s @newbrooklynfarms and has even partnered with @rdpstation offering free yoga sessions in Bear Square. I have always been able to do this pose but would strain to create the pose. Building strength has now allowed me to comfortably go up onto my tiptoes and hands to now down onto my forearms.
Accepting where I currently am on my journey and trusting the process. - ‘ Your life story is as rich as any story you might read’ 💛
I notice myself wanting to minimise or justify what I am about to say but I won’t do that today because today I am celebrating. I am celebrating this group who gift me with the role of a teacher, who trust the process and who show up with curiosity and courage every day. I am celebrating my teachers for their guidance and wisdom which seems to stream through even from afar. I am celebrating @embodiedflow and @authenticrelatingtraining for helping me to lead these trainings ever deeper. I am celebrating the @freedivegili and @giliyoga family for making space for us and never questioning what it is we are up to in the Yoga hall all day everyday.
I didn’t know how it would be to be back here. At the beginning of this year I left Gili Trawangan- my home, business and 10 year relationship - but that’s another story for another time. I am celebrating that it feels good, fucking good, to be here, leading deep adventures into flow and also, I am celebrating that @mikefreediver and I are cool- we hang, we run, we are ‘friends with history’. I am celebrating that when I listen to my intuition it leads me to exactly where I am meant to be.

THE SUFFERING OF I AND THE FREEDOM IN BECOMING EXISTENCE
It's been a while since I've written a blog... I kinda miss it!
so here it goes.
In recent days, I've had a renewed battle to discern what is True Self.
I know the answer because without a doubt I have experienced true nature before.... but some how in recent months, I've become befuddled again and confused and put back into a dark box where I'm having to feel my way out.
Has anyone else been in that situation? In which...truth is something you have experienced directly...and yet somehow it didn't last and now you are living and experiencing a moment to moment passing as living breathing non truth? you know it, you want to get out of it... and somehow you are stumped, stuck in what feels like awareness drowning in ego...or perhaps just ego drowning in ego, as awareness hides in the sidelines, waiting for your own inner fight to end.
To want to 'get out of it' is creating even more suffering in itself... another non truth on top of the non truth. The 'I'm a good yogi, get me out of here' identity.
To try to 'accept it', 'surrender to it' and grit your teeth through it, seems to be a partial truth. Like sitting back and reluctantly waiting for the rain to stop. There's still a sense of resistance...of incomplete acceptance. The 'woes me, spiritual martyr'. ... Today, a strange familiar experience re-appeared. Perhaps it was because I was contemplating The Dao... perhaps it was because of my 3 day fast... I began to look out into the universe. To see all the people go about their business, to see the planets swirling around each other...to even seeing 'me' going from place to place, interacting with people, doing yoga, having my usual thoughts and feelings of my radical yogi mind. I saw my internal battles in the same context as I saw the interacting of the external world. No different. Just a swirling around of life. Completely indifferent in a free and open kind of way.
Today, for whatever reason, 'THERE' was truth...truth was witnessing and truth was existing as the universe. There was just awareness, beyond little me... it cannot be labeled I or anything. It just is. It just exists.
