Join Matt Champoux and Sara Hess in legendary Bali, where a sense of the sacred permeates all aspects of daily life. We will dive into the myths and metaphors of Yoga, which are vibrantly reflected throughout the ordinary life of Bali. We will explore beautiful cultural sites in and around Ubud, and learn how the myths and archetypes of human experience are embodied in asana practice. Daily practice is oriented towards all levels of students and is a mix of Alignment focused Vinyasa, Ashtanga Vinyasa, pranayama and meditation.
Set back into the verdant rice fields our retreat center for the week will provide the perfect environment for this deep and nourishing work. You will enjoy beautifully decorated rooms, delicious vegetarian meals and excursions to some of Bali’s most colorful markets and sacred local temples. The Bali Institute, Ubud’s premiere cultural organization, will guide us on our outings to observe ancient spiritual practices and meet community leaders and dignitaries to develop a better understanding of this unique culture.

These are three examples of where you may be able to lengthen, strengthen, and open much more effectively just by bending your knees .
. 🐶 In downward dog, open the shoulders more by bending your knees . 🌜 In crescent lunge, lengthen your spine and stretch the hip flexors (as opposed to sinking into the lower back) by bending your knees . ⛵️ In boat, strengthen the lower abdominals by keeping the spine from rounding, made easier by bending in the knees .
You can always work to straighten them later! .
Bent knees also help work towards strong alignment in chaturanga, side plank, revolved side angle, and sooo many more! .
