smiling & just super duper thankful💗🙈
last week was a nightmare.. car crashes suck and this one was brutal.
honestly i feel like sometimes these things happen to make you tougher and appreciate life just a little more.
i was about to head into @runrevel Portland with one of the best training cycles i’ve ever had until last Wednesday.
I felt so healthy and ready.
Now i’m in pain physically but mentally i’m still ready.
I’m thankful for the fact i’m even going to be able to run 26.2 next weekend and that i’m alive. That’s what will push me through the downs of this marathon.
Like I said after Boston every cycle has a story... if marathon training and trying to balance all life throws at you wasn’t hard everyone would be doing it.
The reason I share this is because everyone is guilty of taking their health for granted because we don’t know any different until we are hurt. It’s not our fault it’s just how our brains function. But just a word of advice, if you sweat today in pain or not in pain YOU ARE INCREDIBLE and YOU ARE BLESSED. Be thankful for every sweat and every chance you have to be active because there are people out there who can’t.
s/o to @titaniumyoga for making my neck feel so so good tonight in a PERFECT first class.
s/o to @laurensmith_rd for helping me make sure i’m fueling my best for the remainder of my cycle and @dietitiansofpalmvalley for being so so kind & s/o to @wsm for making me feel no doubt i’ll be running next saturday 💗
Day Two of #YogisPlayInTheSun the pose is #happybaby and the question of the day is ‘Why do you like to practice outside or why would you like to start to?’ When I just started to get into yoga someone let me know of a wonderful flow class that is every Sunday at 10 am that meets at Gage Park right by the rose 🌹 garden. It is a community class so it is pay what you can and the funds go back to the community. I thought it was a win win kind of situation. If I didn’t like yoga outside at least the money would be going to a good cause. The day I went had a cool breeze that carried the smell of the roses. I would hear the birds chirping and I had the sun in my face. The question is how could I not love outdoor yoga?!?

Summer festivals pre-kids were the BEST! Festivals and Phish tour were what I waited all year for. All the buddies would get together and go. Days of camping and music and dirt and rain!
I went to the first (4) years of Bonnaroo, from 2002-2005, back when it was still about jam bands and folk music. I saw a lot of music that way. Exposed to so many different bands and sounds. So many good memories I will especially cherish now that my BFF has passed on from ovarian cancer. So glad I had a chance to spend these days with her!
Swipe for some super old (FILM 😆) Bonnaroo pics of me and @amazonyogi GOOD TIMES!! Day 4 of #SummerLovingAsanas is all about holidays or festivals. I may have stretched this theme a bit 😉

Letter to myself:
Thank you for learning to mother yourself.
Thank you for granting yourself the courage to break free from the chains that wanted to confine your growth.
Thank you for enduring the physical challenges meant to come your way, and fighting back stronger than expected.
Thank you for walking through every day with an open heart, even though it’s HARD and people get uncomfortable because of it.
Thank you for staying open,
for staying honest,
Thank you for staying you. — #writtenbyme#realworldpocahontas
Day 2 of #FreshAFYogis is about opening your heart and sharing a piece of your self love.
My mom’s suicide is hard. It’s only been seven months, and some people in my life treat me like my life is a cakewalk.
That’s the thing, either none of our lives are a cakewalk, or all of them are.
I can’t say all of our problems are the same, but I struggle with the same shit you do. Just like the guy you walked by at the grocery store does too.
Some days I have to FIGHT to remind myself to feel anything other than confusion, regret, abandonment, anxiety, betrayal, and loss. But what am I going to do with all of that? Am I going to let it burn inside of me like hot coals? No.
I’m going to connect.
I’m going to breathe.
I’m going to share.
I’m going to stay open.
I’m going to love.
What else do we have?

I’m really trying to work on some progress with this wheel variation because the mobility has been GONE since my fracture. 🙃
“The way through brokenness is, and always has been, to break the sufferer free from the aloneness of the suffering by choosing to participate in the suffering with them- koinonia -choosing to stand with the suffering, stay with the suffering, and let it all be shaped into meaning that transcends the suffering.”
Was this not the consequence of the first and every sequential sin?
And isn’t this the deepest human need?
Which is why Jesus came and made a way to repair that broken bridge?
So that we could know intimacy with God again as we were made to experience?
And if God is, then is that the root of what we lack, and what we are longing for?
To be fully known and loved is our greatest desire, though sometimes not realized.
Our fears are cast out by the very thing God desires to give us. Our greatest fear is being alone and only perfect love can fix those broken places. But when we break open and love others like Jesus loved us, we too become love. We become light bearers. And the light casts out the dark and lonely places. The light shines through the broken pieces. The light is LOVE. And this, I believe, is the path to truly becoming whole: BECOMING the very LOVE we need to others, because He first loved us.

GOTTA STAY BALANCED
I don’t know about all of you but time seems to be speeding up... again! I wake early with the ☀️ and before I know it, the clock says 2pm!! I know things will be ramping up even more starting Monday as we will be launching our new coaching and Kinesiology packages so I need to get and stay grounded and balanced.
Real life always continues off the yoga mat and it is nearly impossible to stay balanced on one leg if you are not present with a quiet mind.
So how do we stay in this state when things around us are moving at speed?
Choose your weapon. There are many tools that work but I often choose breath as it is always available.
1. Stop wherever you are and close your eyes.
2. Take a deep breath slowly filling your belly, ribs, chest and then pause before slowly reversing the breath until lungs are empty
3. Repeat this 10 times
5. Tell yourself “I have got this”
My devotion was about fasting, and how when we fast something we realize we can survive with much less than we have! (Which is very true! I’ve been blessed with so much!)
It then went on to talking about giving anonymously and how when we extend grace it refreshes our awareness of God’s Grace! “The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves by refreshed.” 🌿
What can we do, to be generous people?
Forward folds & frizzy hair... oh how I love summer days 🌞
Before I even say anything else... I’m wearing kini bottoms 😂 they’re apparently just the color of my skin.
50% of the time this is what #uttanasana (standing forward fold) looks like for me. Are my legs straight? NOPE. Is that okay? YEP 👍. My goal is to bring my chest towards my leg while feeling as much of a stretch in my hammies before the point of pain. By hinging at the hips I actually feel more of a stretch than just trying to muscle out strait legs, with my hands on the ground. In doing so my back would be more rounded & I’d be at a greater risk for injury bc I don’t have the flexibility yet to do the full pose (YET).
After I’m warmed up I typically can do a full forward fold, but on days I can’t... I’m okay with that. With regular practice I’m confident my tight hammies will loosen up & this pose will feel even more yummy.
✨”Ut” — meaning “intense”
✨”Tan — meaning “to stretch”
✨”Asana” — meaning “pose”
⬆️ Broken down into it’s root (sankrit) words, Uttanasana literally means it’s an intense stretching pose. Therefore take care of your body, & put aside ego! Bent legs are okay! And YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE FLEXIBLE IN ORDER TO DO YOGA 🧘♀️ mind blowing, I know 🤯😂
Also, I can’t believe it is already day 4 of #getstretchyeveryday ??!! This week is flying by 🌼
Hope you got your Vitamin D today 🌞 if not, this is your reminder to go outside 🙏💛
Everything that I am made up of, is outside.. Our Earth, The Sky, The air, The water.. Inside I feel sheltered and safe.. But out there, I feel free! .
Before Yoga, I just ran.. but one day last year, I found a yoga challenge for runners.. I decided to join because I had been wanting to do yoga for years, I just didn’t know where to begin.. So everyday after my run, I would do a little yoga, and do my new pose for the day.. I was just learning, and I was learning so much!! I began to feel lighter during my runs, I felt so relaxed! I was already outside running, so all of my photos (to me) were beautiful with the sunrise in the background, The trees, grass, flowers, horizon, it was all so beautiful!! Hearing m the birds chirp, the wind blow! I was hooked! I couldn’t wait to run, just so I could do my Yoga!! It was then that I found yoga outdoors.. It’s been my routine ever since!! Well with not as much running. but i’m getting there😂 ❤️ I couldn’t imagine my life any other way❤️
This is one of my favorite spots❤️ Specially when the flowers finally bloom❤️

Have you ever thought about observing yourself from „outside“? We all try to always listen to our inner voice - which is truly important - but maybe now and then taking the view of external person isn’t a bad idea? It offers you the possibility to valuate the situation without the struggle of emotional restraint, but to just see you in your current situation - are you happy with the human you’re seeing? Is this person satisfied? Is he or she struggling? Tired? Angry? Happy? Grateful? What impression makes the person you’re seeing?
For Day 8 we have reclined pigeon pose for you and I chose the seated variation- in this way you can work in your long spine too which is necessary for a good stretch 🙌🏼

“This weekend felt like coming home- not to a geographical place, but to a state of being. It felt like coming back to authenticity whilst living within a world, and a society, that begs for the opposite. It felt like coming back into myself, into unfiltered and genuine living, connection, and happiness.” - @explaurren
Day 5 of my yoga journey is about remembering to have fun. Yoga can be very spiritual at times as well as physically demanding, but it can also just be silly and fun. Back in the fall I wasn't feeling motivated by my home practice. One night at work I came across this poseable skeleton right before October and wondered if I could do a few yoga poses with it. The next thing I knew I was doing a photo with skeletor every day in October. My practice was renewed and refreshed because I would try and find poses that I didn't normally practice in order to fill every day of the month. It was nice to put new poses in my flows and to not take my practice so seriously.
