Hey #transformationtuesday friends 👋🏻💙!! This is for our current #prepNpress challenge participants. My very FIRST #pike press in handstand from an IG challenge 😱. Look how high I started on the wall to get HIPS HIGH!!! Look how wobbly I am. Look how little engagement I have in legs and feet. 😅 .

💙 BUT ITS A PIKE PRESS LIFT AND LOWER!  And I was thrilled. 🎉💙

This is a little pep talk bc quite a few if you have mentioned feeling discouraged and a tad jealous that others seem to be having breakthrus. Forget all of that. This is YOUR journey and wherever you are YOU are just PERFECT. You don’t know if they did handies as a kid in gymnastics. You don’t know how long they have been working these pressing skills. You don’t know their strengths and challenges. And you don’t know what they may have had to overcome along the way (try a fully dislocated shoulder with torn labrum and rotator cuff - took a year to heal). Or family issues that took them off their mat. Or a host of other potential things (family, health, work, etc) that helped or hindered their yoga journey. We hosts are proud of ALL of you evvvvvery day bc you are putting in the work. .

2 gym trips for Stability Class and Yoga finished off with home Yoga using my ‘Daily Yoga’ app (which by the way I highly recommend to anyone wanting to start it and practice at home). Loving my new yoga mat 😍 Enjoying finding my new favourite exercise in my fitness journey and learning its much harder than it looks - but not enjoying learning how weak my core actually is, how unflexible I am and how far I have to go. Definitely my focus areas. And it’s definitely good for your mind as much as your body which is just what I need! Vrikshasana or tree pose is a wonderful pose that teaches balance while toning the muscles of the legs. This elegant pose is not as easy as it looks, but over time it builds tremendous inner and outer strength and a great feeling of accomplishment as you learn to balance on one leg. I had every possible excuse to skip today’s workout. Last day of summer for the kids, carpet is being installed in the basement, Wifi is down , today is yoga day and I’m horrible at it but instead I showed up and I got it done. I’ve been practicing yoga over 20 years and teaching for 7 years but it wasnt until I committed to a daily home practice (w IG 2 yrs ago), and started looking at myself so I could make adjustments, that I really SAW and FELT #yogaprogress 💕!! .

Last week after working #dancerpose at the wall with @cyogalife, I did a little #progresscheck and was pleasantly surprised. 💕 The changes early on from 2016-2017 are more obvious. My shoulders and upper back were so tight. You will notice I don’t look comfortable. You might also notice virtually no change in my low back (lumbar) flexibility over 2 years?! All the progress is in hip flexors, hamstrings and shoulders/upper back (thoracic spine)!!! Because that’s the way I’m built! 💕

SWIPE to see just the most recent progress and what u notice is a better lift in my chest and much more ease!! And it FEELS GOOD! I can’t emphasize this enough. Cranking your body into shapes you see here on IG is not going to do anything but potentially cause injury. Working slowing, mindfully and with intention with YOUR BODY ...WILL help you feel better and probably you will see progress! 💕

Stick with us and don’t get discouraged bc today we are working #pike press 💙! In my opinion pike press in #pincha is the haaaaardest. For me this is bc I don’t/can’t  use lumbar (low back) flexibility as a counter weight for my leg lift and I can’t lean as much as in handstand. So I rely on breath linked to movement and core strength. I’ve left the sound on (don’t laugh!). All presses are REAL TIME. Just do your best!! .

Let's talk warrior1 🔸 This pose is different than highlunge so your legs DO NOT have to be wide.

Tag someone who needs it! #yogastrike 📸 @yogawithjib 🔥Get your yoga guide, link in our bio🔥 . 🔸Focus instead on squaring your hips AND keeping your heels down-- that means you might have to shorten the stance in order to FEEL a stretch in your back calf and ankle (that high lunge doesn't offer).
🔸You can touch your two sides of the hips with your hands to visually check whether your hips are really squared.
🔸Also minimize the backbending action here by keeping the core engaged and the hips neutral (for most people whose hips are automatically tilted forward in this pose, this means you need to tilt the front edge of your hip bone up and backwards).
🔸Your shoulders should stay relatively relaxed as they are pulled down to the mat.
🔹Take what you want and leave the rest. Happy practicing!

My goals are to understand the body mechanics of how my lower body going into tuck before I try to add my upper body. I do attempt the exercises to prepare for push handstand, I believe I need to do toe taps to build strength.

1. Shift onto the outside edge of your left foot, and stack your right foot on top of the left. Now swing your right hand onto your right hip, turn your torso to the right as you do, and support the weight of your body on the outer left foot and left hand.
2. Make sure that the supporting hand isn't directly below its shoulder; position the hand slightly in front of its shoulder, so the supporting arm is angled a bit relative to the floor. Straighten the arm by firming the triceps muscle, and press the base of the index finger firmly against the floor.
3. Strengthen the thighs, and press through the heels toward the floor. Align your entire body into one long diagonal line from the heels to the crown.
4. Stretch the top arm toward the ceiling, parallel to the line of the shoulders. Keep the head in a neutral position, or turn it to gaze up at the top hand.

Late but sure ... starting with day 1; It looks easy but it is not, you have to bring your hips up, push a lot of shoulders so that the foot touches the forearm and not the floor! A nice challenge !!! There it goes...!.

Every single person in my house has a cold. We slept sitting up last night so everyone could breath. Even baby on my chest. She’s finally napping peacefully. Healthier 4 U Crack Chicken bowl for lunch. 
I found this recipe on Pinterest yesterday and “healthed” it up a bit. So freaking good!!!! Instead of having it on a bun I added a serving of protein-rich quinoa and some mixed veggies.

Does anyone else’s brain feel like scrambled eggs?

Do you jump from task to task never fully completing anything?

My personal favorite is when I walk into a room and can’t remember why I’m there. This is when I know two things need to happen!
.
1. It’s time to examine my diet
2. It’s time to turn inward for meditation and phone-free time to get my brain time to relax
.
Brain Fog is one of those things that can seriously ruin a whole lot more than just one day. Before you know it an entire month has passed you by while you are floating through the cloudy motions of life.
.
 I have found that my diet directly affects my mental clarity. The more junk I feed my body, the more junk I feel in my head!
.
An easy fix to combate that scrambled eggs/mental overload feeling is to start by simply drinking more water!
.
Focus on consuming half your body weight in oz of water per day. It will do wonders for body and your mind.
.
Brain feeling overwhelmed and overloaded? I suggest a brain dump of everything floating in your head and a few hours phone-free. I often find that when my brain is feeling most taxed it’s due to being on my phone too much creating too many distractions.

Note #prepNpress EXTRA TIP!! 🙌🏻💙 I start evvvvvery day on my wheel (see my wheel flow) for 10-30 min. Nothing else works as well for me to open up. The wheel works the ENTIRE front body: lats, triceps, hip flexors, quads, even core. AND the ENTIRE back body: my tight upper back, shoulders, hammies, neck and shoulders. I’ve included a video with much of my daily routine (note hand weights - 8lb and @infinitystrap - stretchy). .

Meet Odie, my new puppy!

The summer has been SO busy.
In May I started a new job.
In June we moved.
In July my husband was gone for two weeks in training.
Now it’s August and we got a new puppy.
Why slow down am I right?
🤷🏻‍♀️

If fall wasn’t followed by winter I’d dare to say I’m ready for fall hehe
But regardless I’m ready for things to slow down.
I’m ready to jump back into my practice and my journey here.
With everything going on I feel like I have lost sight of some of my personal goals for this year.
So we’ll see.
Maybe I’ll kick back up this week.
Maybe not.
But I’ll try.

First set up a solid bound base (I feel this is more stable for the neck than a tripod)...it should look like an equilateral triangle 🔺 with elbows under shoulders. I prefer heels of hands together. .

Crown of head on the mat. Walk your feet in as far as possible to get hips stacked over shoulders. If hips don’t stack over shoulders try to prop it up using blocks or the wall. Because you are in a headstand there’s no way to lean, so stacking/alignment is even more important. PRESSING Note: inhale to prepare, exhale and activate abs and hip flexors and come to tippy toes to lift - float - press!! If you take it all the way up be sure to keep core engaged, legs active and engaged and feet active whether flexed or pointed. ❤️
