During the second week of my teacher training I got a bit injured so I had to put myself down and speak to my teacher one to one☝️ Javi recommended some bowspring exercises to help me out!
We were on a 2h Rocket class and my mid back couldn’t take it as we were practising on and off backbends the previous day. I could have kept pushing myself but, would have been worth the pain? Most times we feed ourselves with IG and how amazing and flexible people is but in reality we should listen to our body and respect it. I didn’t feel less than my colleagues because I stopped in the middle of the class, because if I would have carried on probably now I wouldn’t be able to keep practising! Please be careful when you practise yoga, it is not a competition! VV tip of the day: If you have recently purchased a yoga/exercise mat you may notice that they can have a chemical smell when they first come out of their packaging.
Here's what to do: shallow fill your tub with about two-thirds to one half warm water, one third to one half distilled white vinegar, and a generous squeeze of regular dish soap (I use lemon ajax as some dishsoaps can be floral or perfumey). Let it soak for a few hours in the evening, rinse off and hang over the shower rod to dry. In the morning...any leftover smell from the factory was gone! By the way...this @gaiam mat is awesome! A lot of us don’t physically connect with our Earth as much as we should do, and most of us don’t even realise we need to😬
Earthing is when you make physical contact with the earth (skin on the ground basically)- walking barefoot on grass, soil, sand etc. is the most common way.
I spent a lot of time walking around without shoes in Koh Phangan last week, and did a little meditation the other day sitting on a tree stump with my feet on the grass. It’s so nice to meditate in nature💚
Btw earthing isn’t flower-power hippy sh*t - We used to chill about naked before clothes & shoes right?🤗 Isn’t it crazy we have to actually REMIND OURSELVES to hang out in nature?!
Over the past year or so I’ve noticed that whenever I feel stressed I often have an urge to stand barefoot on grass and just breath, 5 mins is all it takes to feel calm again. And this was before I even knew what earthing was and that other people do it too😂
Some other benefits are that it improves sleep, increases energy, relieves tension, eases chronic pain, reduces anxiety, CONNECTION WITH THE GROUND BALANCES THE POSITIVE CHARGE IN OUR CELLS THROUGH THE NEGATIVELY CHARGED FREE ELECTRONS IN THE EARTH AND REDUCES THE ELECTROMAGNETIC RADIATION FROM OUR PHONES N TING #getearthy
Another way I balance the Earth element is through grounding meditations🙏🏼
The vata dosha tends to be slightly “dry” on the inside of the body. So to balance the Water element I just keep my water intake around 2L-3L (obvs) and eat foods with a high water content (like most fruits😁)

Thus, the concept of vayu (air) is synonymous with that of prana (life energy).”

“When practicing this asana Muhlabandha and Uddyanabandha should be released. The rectum (Guda Nala) must be relaxed and the practice of nauli performed.
Nauli is the movement of the rectus abdominus muscles, firstly in the circular clockwise and then anti-clockwise direction, while the lungs are empty. This cures constipation (Malabaddata). Additionally urine problems are allieviated and the urethra cleansed. The muscles of the arms and shoulders are strengthened.”
My thoughts about this asana:
I am really trying to scoop up my bum same time lifting from the ground. Also lift up the knees in the same time!! That is the tricky part😆....

I have been absolutely terrified of this pose ever since I hurt my neck doing it. I hurt myself one time and that was enough to completely deter me from practicing it altogether. That was, I don’t know, almost a year ago, and since then I’ve done it only a handful of times. Even then it took months to get over my fear enough to actually try it again. I do not like this pose. But they say the yoga pose you practice the least is the one you need the most... so here’s to lots more chin stand practice (and using a wall for help this time). 🤸🏼♀️💪🏻☀️
