Sometimes I skip yoga practice because I hurt or don't feel good, but then after a class I always realize that it's just what I needed.

"Know what you stand for without apology. Trust that the place you're speaking from is bigger than you. If you serve the truth, then the words you speak will reflect that."
Have you ever thought when going to bed;⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"When I wake up in the morning, I'm going to do an hour of exercise before I go to work!"⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And then when your alarm goes off at the much earlier time of 6am you push the snooze button or turn it off completely thinking;⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
"I'm soooo tired... maybe I'll do it this afternoon after work..." ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
And head on back for at least 30 minutes more sleep.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Yep. That's me too. (Shoutout to my poor mother back in the day when she was trying to get us all ready for school...)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My husband seems to have more discipline to get up earlier in the morning than I do. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I have unfortunately taught him to be scared to wake me up as I tend to get grumpy being told to do something I don't want to do. (Sorry @nomadfilmmaker!) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But I'm learning and taking action on changing that day by day!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
These are things that help me to wake up in the morning:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- The smell or thought of delicious food or coffee (Sidenote: Remember the episode of 'The Office' where Michael grills his foot on his foreman on the floor next to his bed because he likes to wake up to the smell of bacon? 🤣🤣🤣)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- 5-10 minutes to slowly wake my self up⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Planning out my day the night before (especially my morning)⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Having a shower; it seems to get me mentally ready for the day⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
- Organising meeting someone (even on facetime) for a morning coffee date⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

What we hope to avoid as well as what we hope to acquire drives fluctuations of the mind
I really SHOULD stay away from this (DVESHA)
Man, I REALLY want to have that (RAGA)
Succumbing to either side opens the door for suffering and less peace
The antidote for this suffering is gratitude for what IS just now
It’s like looking at a menu and only seeing what you can’t have or the devilish overly rich morsels that you deeply desire
There is a middle ground
Consider how much power you give your aversions and desires
This is the work of the Yogi
You don’t need a mat to practice yoga 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

The 1st truth: when I first started out, when I was exhausted, overwhelmed and not sure where to begin, I just wanted someone to tell me what to do. I wanted guidance, encouragement & a solid place to start. I was looking for a reset. Not a quick-fix crash diet, but an honest reset: to eat real food, to simplify, to cut through the clutter + focus on what really matters.⠀
The 2nd truth: it took me YEARS to put together a RFWL program, because I wanted to make sure I was created something truly simple, that wasn't quick-fix diet gimmick, and that would serve as a true reset.⠀
So today, after some serious behind-the-scenes planning, creating & testing, I am beyond thrilled to announce the very first Real Food Whole Life Simplified Reset. . It's something I wish had existed when I first started, and the plan I use in my own life when I need a good reset.⠀
The Reset is an exclusive 4-week program designed to give you everything you need to reset, eat well, focus in & truly thrive. Each week includes a meal plan, grocery & prep list, and is designed to be totally simple: 1 breakfast, 1 lunch, 3 dinners, and 1 treat (no deprivation here!) each week. ⠀
You’ll receive 19 brand new recipes to make throughout the Reset, all gluten-free, dairy-free & refined sugar-free, plus a 5-Minute Morning Journal bonus, designed to help you create space to connect with yourself, refill your cup, and focus in on what really matters. Plus, there's a private FB group, where we can connect and you can find accountability within the community. ⠀
We start October 1st, and sign-ups begin today. Click the link in profile for all the details, and to sign-up. Let me know if you're in, and feel free ask questions in the comments. Can't wait to do this together!

Olanı oldugu gibi görebildigim her an için #namaste ✨🙏🏻✨ Sessizce otururken, orada oturan şeyi duyumsa.
İçinde oturduğun bu bedeni incele.
Beden dediğimiz ışık saçan bu duyum alanını gözle.
Duygunun sözsüz niteliğini farket.
Sadece var olma hissinin bedende dolaşırken mırıldanışını hisset.
Duygunun bilindiği o tanımı güç varlık hissinin içine gir.
Duygunun içindeki duyguyu anla.
Bu olma duygusunun, her hücrende titreşen canlılığın içine yerleş, Ol... Sadece sessizce otur ve bil.
Bırak farkındalık kendinin farkına varsın, kendini bil.derinine in.
Zihnine sorma, o herşeyi tanımlamalarla sınırlar,
Kalbine sor, bunu adlandıramaz, ama her zaman bilir.. ✨☁️
In 2007, I completed my 200 hour teacher's training under the guidance of my beloved Swami Jaya Devi at Kashi Atlanta.
In 2007, I met @octaviaraheem in the hallway of Kashi Atlanta Ashram while we were both doing the 10 day detox.
In 2007, Octavia was also going through her own YTT at Peachtree Yoga Center. We started seeing each other more in spaces because we were a part of a handful of Black and Brown Yogis becoming certified yoga teachers 15 years ago. There wasn't an Instagram to keep track of Yogis who looked like us, no hashtag for Black Girl Magic or images to remind us we weren't alone.
The @blackyogis tumblr page founded by Robin Rollan was a landmark moment for me and I saw Maya Breuer for the first time.
All the while, we practiced.
In 2009, Octavia began assisting Maya Breuer during her Yoga Retreats for Women of Color.
In 2011, I started Chelsea Loves Yoga for the sole purpose of Yogi in the Community where I interviewed Yogis of Color across the world.
In 2011, I interviewed Maya Breuer who founded The Yoga Retreat for Women of Color.
In 2013, I founded Yoga, Literature, and Art Camp for Teen Girls at Spelman College Museum of Fine Art and the first person I called was Octavia. She became our co-director.
In 2017, I joined the Starshine & Clay family that Octavia founded.
2018, here we are! I am supporting my sister by co-facilitating her retreat at the same place we just hosted our retreat for Teen Girls last month.
All of this to say.
We come from a lineage of teachers.
We come from our ancestors' prayers.
We are our grandmothers' wildest dreams.
Won't you celebrate with us! ✨✨✨✨

The wait is over: we are thrilled and proud to announce the name of our juice bar inside Blue Moon Yoga Clovis. Thank you all for your clever and thoughtful name submissions, especially Nicole Fagundes for coming up with this fantastic name! You all will have to wait just a little longer for Namaste Cafe and the Clovis studio to open. We promise it’ll be worth the wait 🙏🏽 #bluemoonyoga#bluemoonyogaclovis
Day one of the #lovingyogis challenge ❤️ To be honest I really don't have a favorite pose. It differentiates from day to day.
However for this first day I picked #crowpose or #bakasana because it forces me to focus on lifting vs falling. Crow Pose encourages body awareness and honing in on the mind-body connection while flying in the air.
The perfect balance between letting go and holding on. And in that balance I find bakasana ❤️ In time, Crow Pose connects us with our feelings, emotions, and creative energy.
Just taking some time for myself is one of the hardest things to do for me. But today I actually did it and said no for once. I took the free time I had to just be alone and in the present. Drinking tea, meditating, cooking myself a nice meal and ofcourse my yoga practice ❤️
THE ♈️ ARIES FULL MOON 🌕 .
I have a fascination with the moon; how it shines so brightly in the night sky, how it effects the earth’s tides.
It harnesses a lot of energy so I’ve always viewed it as beautiful guiding light.
For me, moon phases are a great time to connect to my intentions for manifestations, using the new moon to set my intentions, and the full moon to cleanse & release any limiting beliefs or blockages that are in the way my intentions.
With the Aries full moon in the sky tonight, here’s a little ritual that you can follow along if you’d like:
✿ write down any limiting beliefs that you may have on a piece of paper, doesn’t have to be anything fancy
✿ Take the piece of paper and burn that shit. You don’t need that in your life anymore. (PSA place in a flame resistance bowl.... we don’t want to burn down the house)
✿ smudge the area with some sage
✿ use full moon mantra.
. 🌑 F U L L M O O N M A N T R A 🌕
. “ I am now choosing to cleanse
myself and release any and all
thought forms, beings,
Situations and energies that are
no longer of service to my
highest and greatest good...
I ask that all energies that are
less than love be transmuted
to the highest good of all.“
Just because someone is doing something with their body that you didn’t think was possible, or you don’t think you could ever do that yourself, it doesn’t mean they are any better or worse at yoga than you are. Although seeing a beautiful picture with a beautiful yoga pose can be inspiring, the point of yoga is how it feels, during and after your practice, it never is about how it looks. There is no such thing as being “good” at yoga. Instagram is all about beautiful photographs, but yoga is just about living a beautiful life - whilst using this platform don’t get distracted with comparisons.
Self-care has become a very lucrative business. Everywhere you look someone is trying to sell you something that will help you be a better version of yourself. Candles, creams, facial masks, so many things, and oh so many different sportswear brands out there at the moment promising better performance, better support, better something ... 🙄 self-care isn’t really about these things though. In reality you don’t have to spend a penny on self-care. Enough sleep is self-care and that doesn’t cost anything (you don’t need silk pillow cases to have a good night sleep). Taking the time to go for a walk or to read your favourite book, taking a bath or exercising (doing yoga in your living room 😜) - those things don’t cost anything. I’ve been using the same old pair of leggings for almost five years to do my exercise, and only last month for my birthday I received a new pair - you don’t need ten different exercise outfits to do exercise. Self-care is really just looking after yourself and finding some time in your busy daily schedule to have a well deserved break. Buying £50 scented candle won’t help you calm down if you don’t know how to sit down for five minutes and breathe. It’s nice to have nice things, but don’t get trapped into thinking that self-care costs. Focus on the time you spend on yourself, rather than the money.
