Yoga decreases⬇️ reactivity and increases ⬆️adaptability to situations that arise.
Using a classic textbook example, “you’re cruising down the freeway bumpin The Carter V on your way to Ikea, then some guy cuts you off and now this is you🤬
You react by tailgating him and even honking a few times. He exits the freeway and you continue on your route. Now you’re just pissed and Lil Wayne isn’t even playing in your speakers anymore 🤣 because you turned down the volume during your pursuit of the shitty driver.
Over time with practice, increasing your adaptability will move you through situations with more ease instead of getting caught up in what’s happening outside of you, because in reality you’re the one who decides whether to react or not.
I really miss my backbending practice.
I know I'm not the only one who has seen a lot of loss of progress due to illness or injury.
Some are happy with backing off a little, not pushing quite so far. Some are bummed that they feel like its a huge step backwards.
I feel both. When this picture was taken 2 and a half years ago, I wasn't in the best place emotionally, but physically, my body felt great. I felt open and strong. I was sleeping really well...😭 I miss sleeping the most, but backbending gave me life. It's like a drug.
Maybe that's not always a good thing, but I definitely wasn't pushing myself too far. Today it feels like it was only a distant memory. I miss that feeling. I want to get it back. But I know I have to be patient and gentle.
What I do know is wherever you are, is where you're supposed to be. Every storm passes.
Even the big ones that take down hard and make you have to rebuild from the bottom. You will be better for it. 💜👊💪
