Yoga has given me so much lightness and peace in my life- for that I am thankful. I was speaking to a student last night about the importance of the breath during asana practise, and I remembered a quote I had read by David Williams which sums up nicely Yoga in general ‘Before you practise the theory is useless, after you practise the theory is obvious’ I think he was describing Kapalabhati pranayama. Teaching yoga is a huge responsibility, trying always to deliver the truth as best you can. Sometimes it’s difficult to transcend. For me Yoga is meditation, or at least the path to meditation, a peaceful mind and life without suffering. I first found Yoga through asana alone like many, but through the years and after much pranayama practise it developed into a spiritual practise and a form of meditation. It is the only time when my mind doesn’t race, there are no thoughts except for those of the breath. ‘I will not teach or show you anything perfectly, but I will let you see me, and I will always hold sacred the gift of seeing you. Truly, deeply seeing you.’
Courage starts with showing up, and letting yourself be seen.’ Brene Brown
We celebrated International Yoga Day 2018 in style yesterday paying a visit to Convergy's in Santry for some afternoon taster yoga classes ☀️ lots of first timers that will hopefully continue with their yoga practice 🤗
Yesterday was International Yoga 🧘♀️ Day (here are some yogi feet) and the Winter🔥 Solstice.
I spent time in our very bushy backyard with @flowerbaby.vegan and Jarieus weeding and prepping the Chimera and space so that my family could come together to sit under the nighttime ⭐️🌟💫skies, watch the blazing fire 🔥 with @khadiishtar and do some feet 👣Fire Earthing amongst the elementals #natureisafoot pictured here with @veganauli .
There was a time where I lived as a young mother with a baby & toddler with no Tv 📺, electricity, phone landline (just a CB Radio). A fortunate chapter was when I was barefoot, breastfeeding and building a shack. .
Life was simple but it was very enriching and I learnt to use my hands to build, bake, grow & harvest
Living in the hills gave me clean air, starry skies, subtropical rainforest plants, a beautiful dam to swim in, such a diversity of native birds and animals along with salt of the earth 🌏 community.
Stephen and I would drive to Lismore or Nimbin Town once a fortnight for supplies to come back and retreat back into the land. .
We don’t really need much but society tells us we do.......
An outdoor fire 🔥 with loved ones nourishes me and reminds me ‘Live Simply So All May Simply Live’ Gandhi

Some of my favorite yoga classes of allll time have been ones where the instructor emphasizes playfulness, having fun, and taking ourselves less seriously on the mat and in life. It’s soooo refreshing like a breath of fresh air in a world of seriousness and trying too hard. I aim to incorporate this light hearted approach in my teaching and personal practice as well. It’s healthy to laugh at ourselves and it unites us in our humanness.
So with that... happy International Yoga Day AND Summer Solstice! Cheers to long sunny days, being silly, laughing lots, and loving each other more! LOTS OF LOVE 😘
A unique balance of depth and light would describe her classes.

International Day of Yoga 🌏🙏🏽
This is about to be a long post, but well worth it. Blame it on my free flowing energetic throat chakra lol✌🏼
One year ago today, I was just beginning to dip my toes into the incredibly welcoming, talented yoga community in NYC. Finally starting calling myself a real New Yorker. After leaving my job in Boston I traveled across India, and yoga-trained for the first time in the World Capital of Yoga - Rishikesh in early 2017. I gained a newfound perspective on what it means to live authentically, and validation for my life mantra to live UNapologetically as your truest self.
Not too long ago that getting up out of bed made me sick to my core. I felt like I was living in a shadow like a shell of a human. I sought "happiness" solely from external sources that were actually killing me slowly from the inside. I was living a routine of feeling undervalued, unfulfilled, and somewhat purposeless. I caught myself falling into a perpetual rut that no one warns you of as soon as you leave wide-eyed with your proud college degree. Needless to say, I quickly envisioned my life going down a dark path if I didn't change anything immediately.
I won't say everything is rosy or easy. This unconventional path I've chosen presents a lot of challenges and tribulations, but I'm not scared of that in the slightest. The only thing I'm scared of, is living a life someone else//society dictates to be "acceptable" when my heart and mind have always wanted something different and more. Never been one to conform, and I won't start now. That being said, I plan to stay true to my authentic passion for reforming healthcare in this country and improving mental health care AS WELL AS staying eternally bound to yoga in every aspect.
I can't wait to see how my pure intentions manifest into the reality I keep dreaming about. I'm overwhelmed with a flooding rush of gratitude. The inner happiness and healing that yoga has provided me in life will never be matched by anything else. I am beyond grateful to have found my lifelong love.
