✨The Final Take✨
Anya: Meh. I’ve come here twice and I’ve been underwhelmed both times. The food is just lacking the “it” factor for me for the most part. Out of the combination XLB, the standout for me was the Szechuan. Though the gruyere was unique, I was more uncomfortable than pleased. The XLB also tends to stick to the basket, so all those precious juices get drained ☹️. I think the steamed basket is a good table app and the pork and shrimp shumai in it is the best. That calamari was BOMB though. If you’re coming here, make sure to get that. For the lamian, I got the char siu and wonton. This was ok. The broth didn’t do much for me and I ended up dumping a bunch of chili oil in. The wontons and noodles were good — until I found a long hair cooked right into it 🤢. Overall, this place just doesn’t do it for me and costs a pretty penny anyway. I won’t be back. ⭐️⭐️

Akshaya: Imperial Lamian was a fixture in River North that I have been meaning to try for ages! However, the place was disappointing. We went with a big group (#KQSquad) and the menu looked promising. They had plenty of options. We each got something different but it was pretty unmemorable flavor wise. The star of the night was the Calamari- that five-spice sauce was especially yummy. That and the shrimp wok fried la mian were the only two dishes that stood out, everything else was so bland. I don't know if it was a bad day for them, but we didn't have a pleasant experience with the service either. Luckily the manager was very professional and nice and took care of us. However the trifecta of bland food, high prices, and bad service was fatal. I don't think we are going to be going back. ⭐️⭐️

Eating all the Xiaolongbao I can in this city! These are so tasty and despite their kind of small size they have so much soup. Yum. FYI, they are also known for their Peking Duck. 👌🏼 #laoszechuan #xlb #xlbchicago #soupdumplings

Chicago Tribune said these are the best Xiao long bao (soup dumplings for you white folk) in Chicago. No lie, they were damn good. I even got a second order because 🐷. Tomorrow I’m headed to #chinatown because I know how to live right. #xlb #soupdumplings #xlbchicago
