Caros amigos, parentes, colegas,

I’ve fallen in love with Vancouver all over again; this time everything East Van. How did I not know about this gem of a hood? From the insane wine selection @libertywinecd to the amazing breweries @parallel49beer and @brassneckbrew, to the Paloma’s and taquitos @elcaminos, to the effortlessly cool vintage clothes @mintage - I’m hooked. What are your go to spots in East Van?
🍷This is one great wine I’ve tasted recently: for many this estate doesn't need an introduction anymore, Mas de Daumas Gassac changed the image of Languedoc wines (high volume/cheap wines), considered the most prestigious wine estate from Languedoc. •
Mas de Daumas Gassac Rouge 2016 - Haute Vallée du Gassac.
Appellation Saint-Guilhem-Le-Desert IGP- a beautiful medieval village surrounded by vineyards, with a cooler microclimate as it is located on the foothills of the Cévennes mountains⛰ •
This wine is young and has a GREAT potential for aging!
A wonderfully structured and complex wine made with a blend of different grapes: 🍇
73% Cabernet Sauvignon
4% Cabernet Franc
4% Petit Verdot
3% Pinot Noir
Medium body - Nose: Blackberry, ripe black berries, gariguette strawberries, garrigue herbs, violets, licorice, tabaco.
👌Beautiful restrained, more on the bright fruits side now, I am curious to try an older vintage to taste the evolution of this beauty. • 🧐 When talking about this wine it’s impossible not to mention the fascinating story behind Mas de Daumas Gassac and the founders Aimé and Véronique Guibert who fell in love with this beautiful valley in the early ‘70. With the help of Henri Enjalbert, a geologist, they quickly discovered perfect soils (red glacial age deposits) for planting vines and potentially making ‘Grand Cru’. 🍇 Cabernet Sauvignon and more than 40 other uncloned grape varieties -producing low yields - can be found in the valley. 🎬 Aimé Guibert is part of the documentary ‘Mondovino’ where he defends the Terroir against the standardization and globalized wines. Aimé passed away in 2016 at age 91, 4 of his 5 children are now keeping his legacy alive and preserving the land and the family winery. 🐎 The estate implemented organic farming methods and horse ploughing has been introduced in the vineyards in the recent years to minimize the impact on the soils. .
Had a stellar time with @cathymarston and @ishotimagesza on the @hashtagradio.co.za #sawineshowcase // Tasting our way through some beauties that get featured on the @wsetglobal courses reminded just how broad the horizon is. Whether it is our music, or art, or coffee, or wine, South Africans often lug around inferiority complexes. The wines we tasted tonight were a reminder that we not only have some of the greatest winemakers in the world, but also (counterintuitively) that by tasting wines from major growing regions across the globe, one can actually appreciate afresh the exact sensory niche that our wines occupy, teetering on the toe of Africa, between the new world and the old. . .

So apparently I did knew my Kanji 🤣⠀
This came yesterday and I’m so happy! This course was in the mist of me finding out being pregnant, feeling sick all day all long and having hormones razing though my body. And sipping sake didn’t really help 😂⠀
But seeing the results I’m really happy I decided to go through with the course!
Rest In Peace Zoltán Sánta. ♥ It was great to know you, to learn from you. From now on teach the angels of Heaven about wine with the same enthusiasm like you taught us in the Borkollegium. "He died that day because his body had served its purpose. His soul had done what it came to do, learned what it came to learn, and then was free to leave." (Garth Stein)
💡 As requested by @jaimelewine last week, here are some fun facts about Pinotage!
We stay in South Africa this week... 🤓 📩 Do you guys have any requests about fun facts that you'd like me to post? 🕵🏻♀️ #didyouknowthat#funfacts#pinotage#southafricanwine
🇧🇷 Um Pinot Noir sempre tem seu lugar. Esse da @villamariawines (Nova Zelândia) tá supimpa! Olha a cor do menino! Linda, né? E no nariz, frutadão e fresco: cereja vermelha, morango, pimenta do reino, cravo, eucalipto, terra molhada, flor. Na boca, fortemente especiado, macio, adstringência muito leve, uma persistência média e pesa com muita sutileza na boca. Fácil de beber, de harmonizar e de se apaixonar. Boa semana! *
🇺🇸 There's always room for a Pinot Noir. This boy from @villamariawines is awesome. See its color? Beautiful, right? And on the nose, fruity and fresh: red cherry, strawberry, pepper, clove, eucalyptus, wet earth, flower. On the palate, strongly spiced, soft and slightly astringent, medium persistent and with an extract that weighs lightly on the tongue. Definitely, an easy and likable wine. Have a nice week, everyone! *
It took 9.5 weeks to get my WSET Level 3 results, but they’re in. I got Distinction on both parts, as well as a wine to celebrate. Lalande de Pomerol is a great find, just north of #Pomerol . The 2012 harvest was overall much better for Merlot-based reds in Bordeaux than Cab Sauv. This Château Belles-Graves is 88% Merlot, 12% Cab Franc. Clay and gravel soils with vines averaging 40 yrs. 100% French oak barriques - 25% new. Hand-harvested, 100% de stemmed. Deep ruby color. Cherry blossom, wild strawberries, and wet clay, overlaid with ripe tannins and smooth texture. Well balanced and medium finish. #bordeaux#frenchwine#aoc#lalandedepomerol#merlot#cabernetfranc#wset#wsetglobal#wsetlevel3#weekendvibes#sommlife#wineexam#winedinner
