Day 585 - Glutter
Our main visits to Manila are transfer visits. Not the best, but at least we got to wander a bit in random streets, take the subway & get some vibes. On our final day, walking to the airport, we crossed a giant popular market, feeling the usual Filipino friendliness, wtf are you doing here looks and a - let’s be honest- sketchy-ish atmosphere. But we were far from the fancy nightlife area and everything was fine. Maybe we should have given Manila more time. Manila contrasts a lot with the rest of the country, rather peaceful. It’s pure hustle and bustle. It’s overcrowded, as too many people come, hoping to find a job, but often finding their hopes wiped out in the gutter. It’s also a place of glitter, happy few & party. The middle class’s dreams grow there. And work hard.
The gaps among the people’s lifestyle were more visible here than in other countries. For instance there was really a wealthy class, traveling a lot and enjoying their country’s wonders. Which is nice, for once !
One month in the Philippines is just not enough.
A moment like this makes me appreciate having choices in life. When we are today is the choices we made 2-3 years ago. Always take a moment today to reflect if the choices you make today will bring you to where you want 2-3 years.
