The largest canyon in Africa and second largest in the world (after Grand Canyon in the USA), Fish River Canyon in Namibia was formed over millions of years by erosion of bedrocks. The once mighty mountain range was eroded down to a vast plain flooded by the ocean. With the separation of the continent 120 million years ago and the uplifting of the African continent, the gradient of the Fish Ricer increased allowing it to erode even deeper into the rock. Today, the deepest point of the canyon is 549 metres deep. During summer month, the hiking trail is likely to be closed due to heat. Travellers are advised to visit during April - September and can complete the trail within 4 to 5 days, depending on fitness. Pack your bags and get ready for a memorable trip in Africa!
