This dish was made for me three years ago and it has become a summer treat each year proceeding.
This Peach Breakfast Crumble was made by my fabulous coworker. She had me over to her house, late one evening after I taught yoga. We were most likely planning our back to school ice cream social, or fall programming. Possibly, talking over the details of our last few field trips.
She had gotten a flat of peaches from the farmers market. Trying to use them up, she made this dish. She served it to me warm with camomile tea. I was pregnant; visibly so. I sat with her dog Jack on my lap, eating and sipping.
At that point I had been working with Jaime for seven years; it is one of my most cherished moments with her. You see, she has this ability to just make people feel loved and important. I watched her do it all the time with kids, teen assistants, volunteers, and even her own daughter. I’m sure there are other times I felt this way with her. This time is just the most profound.
Food can bring up all kinds of memories, just smelling the peaches I began to have flashbacks to the evening in 2015. If you want to feel love, find a food that takes you back to a moment you felt loved. Let food be your conduit to emotions, and memories.
