So very happy with this little guy ❤️I introduced him to hare at the field trial and accidentally matched the introduction with a loud gunshot, he wasn’t bothered at all and just kept carrying the game 😍❤️

Today we helped out on a novice class field trial. In between putting out the search I took the boys out one at a time(mostly the yellow ones) for passivity and simple exercises that demanded some degree of focus. Acho just needs to get back into being around working dogs without getting excited. I got a lot of game for helping out. We tried crow, hare, pheasant and gull and Acho took them all without hesitation and delivered them flawlessly 😍I got so excited I signed him up for a trial in two weeks haha. Are we ready? Hell no. But will we ever be? Will he still be healthy if I choose to start him next year? Since his future is unsure I just want us to have fun and I treasure every moment with him. I don’t care at all if he mess up, I’m just happy the surgery and rehab were (at least for now) extremely successful and that I have bought us more time together ❤️ Rhaes’ most impressive deed today was learning how to force his chubby little body out from the trunk and into the passenger seat, finishing 1kg packaged blood pudding 🙂 I found him passed out and the whole car covered in his fur 😂
Yesterdays course with Acho included some whining, peeing on one occasion when he got confused and resending several times since he wanted to take a marking in the water instead 🙈 all and all I’m still content though. Mostly I just treasure all of our time together because I don’t know for how long he’ll be around, I just want us to have fun together. The good parts were that he was happy and focused(even though I had to call him back from the water marking several times with my cave troll voice haha), he didn’t bark and he wasn’t interested at all in the other dogs. Giving that he hasn’t lived with me for nearly two months and we haven’t trained properly (in group) since January this was pretty much what I expected. Now I have to make retrieving a little bit less exciting again 😅and find a way to interact with him that doesn’t make him explode with happiness (he’ll probably realise I’m not that fun in a couple of weeks 😏). Also look how skinny he is, he was 27,5 when he got back, now (in the picture) he’s 29kg.
Need to give a big shout out to Mr Barrie. He's my gundog trainer and because of him I'm learning all sorts of new things. Today I hung out with my friends Ash & Fell and we did a long memory retrieve together. That's where we see the dummy gets put down somewhere, walk away from it and then have to run back, find it and come back. This was my first time doing a memory over such a difference (about 200/300m) and I nailed it! Fell went first and showed me what to do and then it was my turn and I surprised everyone as I'd never done this distance before!
So thank you Mr Barrie for teaching me lots of new things. I can't wait to get even better!
