when we went to Philadelphia a few weeks ago; I carried my camera around with me almost every day we were there.
It got to be hella heavy at times but I LOVED it. I had forgotten the freedom of taking photos just for me, not for any other reason other than to express myself, be creative and have fun. I’m hoping to put a blog post together about the trip soon. In the meantime, here’s a fountain + statue of a lady holding a duck that I just thought was striking and kind of weird but still beautiful all at the same time 🦆
Meet Sophia, a live edge walnut bowl that I hand turned on my lathe. This bowl has more sapwood than heartwood, with most of the heartwood only being visible at the very base/foot. A lot of woodworkers (including woodturners) don't care much for sapwood, especially if the contrasting heartwood isn't really prominent, but I like seeing how vessels turn out with these "edge" pieces. I have a tendency towards using "reject" pieces of wood anyway, so a sapwood piece of walnut is right in line with my rooting for the underdog thinking. 😁
* m a k e r s g o n n a m a k e * I don’t talk about it much here on Insta, but I’ve taken pottery classes off and on for most of my life. I do it purely for pleasure... I don’t write tutorials about it and I don’t sell my pots. And there’s something so liberating about that!
When creativity is both your hobby and your work, it can be hard to separate the two... do you guys take any classes that aren’t related to what you do for a living? Or maybe you’ve been meaning to? Share your thoughts in the comments!
Do you ever buy something from the charity shop knowing full well you probably won't wear it but hoping you might? This skirt was one of those moments. Another granny buy but I love it/hate it all at the same time. Sometimes i wear said item all day to see how I feel about it 12 hours later. I think this skirt is destined for my #depop shop. Maybe....
I’ll be at the Crown Hill Market today from 3-7, if you’re in the Seattle area. I’m just taking care of all the things I’ve put off until after the festival, slowly, as one does when the list feels endless. In between screen chores, I’ve covered the thin Romney wool with a very chunky weight merino that I want to use for a weaving idea that’s been in my head for a while, and just needs to be explored in tactile form.
Did you know: Leather candles are the most asked for at festivals. So we have a question for you, would you like to see these at our next event and online for purchase? #pearlstreetlights#leathergoods#decor
Here’s a design I started working on before our move. Disability rights don’t get talked about nearly enough. Interestingly, I was working on this at Starbucks and they recently announced that they are phasing out straws. Great news, right? Plastic straws are terrible for the environment. Except that some people with disabilities can’t use other straws/no straw (thanks to NPR for an insightful story on the topic). If we phase them out completely, we are making some public spaces less accessible. A straw may seem insignificant, but if it makes a space accessible for someone, that’s huge.
Beautiful image by @handhewnliving of her GRCW burner and striker that she picked up from @lineagegoods. And a candle by @outboundsupply. There are some truly wonderful makers and creators in this town 🖤 You can find their goodies at so many places including @lineagegoods @thewoodentrout @theladyjaneshop @agoradowntownmarkethburg @withsimplicity_beauty @larkinarts and many other places. What are your favorite Harrisonburg businesses that are supporting local makers and creators?

we’re in need of some little cabin life all together. we’ve been all over lately and having this little place to call our temporary home together has been a sanctuary. tiny living is making me more appreciative of space and only filling it with things that have purpose and that I find beautiful. I can confidently say I know where every one of these pieces was made, I know the people behind them and that alone makes them beautiful to me. #handhewnliving#shoplocal#tinyliving

I mille modi che hanno le coppie per baciarsi ai concerti.
Me li ero dimenticati.
As school holidays draws to a close, being fully present (and patient) is getting harder and harder. But i know by mid next week after a couple of days back into the school/work/care routine i will crave spending time with my boys and seeing their smiley faces.
The WORKERS jacket in Indigo. A real beauty of a fabric- British cotton twill. And the colour has a brightness to it reminiscent of older french workman's jackets. This one went to local lady Angelica and I got to see her wearing it yesterday; what a treat!
I’ve been so focused on my working routine lately that I even forgot to post more photos of spreads from my last May trip to Norway 😱🇳🇴 The weather back then was fantastic, it felt like February-March back home! Pretty chilly still, with still snow melting in the mountains but warm enough for wanting to het lost around the streets of Oslo! I can’t imagine how cool it must be in July! Which Scandinavian country will go to next? Probably Sweden, since two of my penpals and other amazing mutuals are from there 🙊
Eng-Will I do it today to put the news on the shop?
Because these beauties are just waiting for a new house in which to show off 💚
(For those who do not know, the Sea Creatures are ceramic hanging pots to hang on the wall, created specifically to expose the Tillandsias - aerial plants that live without ground🌱-)
Feeling discouraged after working my day job and left with no focus/energy to spend in the shop later. Trying to keep all my fingers so leaving the project for another day. #womenwhomake#woodturning#naptime
I would like to focus on you as the #maker . We talk about wanting it all (i.e. yarn) and to do them all (i.e. patterns/projects). I hope to help fine-tune your craft, to inspire you, for you to take away that which applies and appeals to you when it comes to minimalism and simplicity. I’m no expert, but I am learning the ropes as I go. I’ll share what works for me and what doesn’t. I’ll offer tidbits, tips or advice. I’ll ask you a few things, to pick your brains. I’ll share what others are doing.
Would you care to join along? Create #minimalismwithyarn . Tag your work, keep it simple, share your thoughts. We all have works in progress on our hooks, needles, or looms… but, we ourselves are works in progress too. Let’s just figure it out as we go! No strings attached. (Is that pun intended?) 🤗
Totally forgot to do a bouquet reveal for this one! I try to incorporate as many details into these bouquet replicas as I can. My favorite part about this one is the lace wrap and gold brooch! I used real lace sewn into the hoop and replicated the brooch detail. These are TINY things that make a BIG difference in the quality of my products over others. I take into account the small things that mean a big deal to the people they are gifted to! ✨✨ How to get 87 followers without a single post on Instagram.
Well... I actually have no idea how that happened but hey! Thanks for being here. I see you and I've been silently stalking you on IG stories instead of posting here.
It's real, y'all. I'm on Instagram!
Can we make our relationship official now? Tell me a random fact about you.
Mine is this: I'm a bit of a stress cleaner. And bonus: I'm disappointed at the lack of a broom emoji.
