Lesson 7: You can do hard things. I was lucky enough to hike Iron Mountain this week with a dear friend. We had both been before and weather completely obliterated the view we knew was potentially spectacular. We were not wrong! Oh and the wild flowers!! But my biggest takeaway for the day came from my friend. We last hiked together in April over a year ago. She fell on that hike, badly hurting her ankle and hadn’t been on the trail since. Her first hike back, she chooses Iron Mountain! Almost 7.5 miles and in her words ‘a real ass burner!’ The mile up to the viewing platform is rather steep! Here’s what impressed me; she didn’t worry about how long or how steep it was. She wasn’t worried about falling again. She planned to pace herself and be very careful with footing on the decent and knew it would be worth it. We were rewarded with a breathtaking hike and gorgeous view that was absolutely worth the effort. Her courage inspires me. It took me over two full years of hiking weekly before I was mentally ready to tackle hikes over 5-6 miles on a regular basis. Last year, I talked myself out of many, many adventures because of self doubt. Looking back , I can recognize how I was in my own way. We could have easily looked at the overcast skies, worried about the distance and elevation gain and missed out on a beautiful day! We also found a wonderful restaurant on the way home just as we had given up finding a place that was dog friendly! Check out Kirks Ferry in Brownsville! Great beer, delicious food and your fur babies are welcome! I hold this discovery as another amazing after affect of not giving into self doubt, not allowing yourself to overthink things and being open to whatever new experience comes your way! #hiketoheal#myhikingbuddiesareamazing#ironmountain#wildflowers#thisviewtho#lessonsfromthetrail#hikingadventures#mypnwlife#mybackyard#hikingculture#outinoregon#herpnwlife#mountianchicks#womenwhohike#womenwhoexplore#womensupportingwomen#oregon#themountiansarecallingandimustgo#findmewherethewildthingsare#happyplace#sweatydirtyhappy
If only you could tell how far the drop is below me (and no it’s not the grassy patch) 🤗
Goodness nature so darn beautiful...relish in it. Absorb every oz of it you can before its pureness is destroyed. Get outside. Explore. Adventure // #naturesbeauty#bestviewpoint#adventurealways#myjam
“When it gets cold outside and you got nobody to love
You’ll understand what I mean when I say
There’s no way we’re gonna give up
And like a little girl cries in the face of a monster that lives in her dreams
Is there anyone out there ‘cause it’s getting harder and harder to breathe
Is there anyone out there ‘cause it’s getting harder and harder to breathe”
What an amazing day we all had on Thursday, running around the mountains to celebrate @joolibert 's birthday (with @katie_s_mills, @holholden, @vancouverrunner, @wiebzgoesinternational )
Although 32km is actually pretty short, it took us 8.5 hours, between the insane elevation, massive boulder fields and beauty that needed to be photographed.
Accessing such beauty in a single day, (as opposed to trekking for multiple days) takes quite a bit of effort, energy, planning and a lot of training, but it is always worth it.
And I make a point of reminding myself everyday how lucky I am to be able to go on adventures like this one.
The golden hour. A big thanks to @kingsolomander for his navy knots and a sturdy hammock. lol flash back 20 years ago to one of our first group dates...when he tied our tubes together (for safety🤨😉🙊) and we floated down the river inseparable. I knew that was husband material. ⚓️⛰🌄 #goldenhour#vactionmode **follow my travels @bohoaroundtheworld
The now infamous Tablerock Lake, an area where I chose to relax this weekend, and pursue my photography adventures. Peace and prayers 🙏for the families affected by the tragic Duck Boat accident on Thurs.
Hardest run I’ve had this summer in this tiny mountain town. Started at the bottom and ran to the top through tea plantations to see the viewpoint of the whole town. It was definitely worth the view! I truly love Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
Camp season flew by and my heart is not ready to say goodbye. Adventuring in the mountains each week with awesome kids has been the biggest blessing. And just when you think you’ve made an impact on the life of campers, you realize they’ve made an impact on yours too. #fullheart
