I am not one to run in just a sports bra, let alone post about it! But as I trained these past two weeks on a treadmill at home I figured, why add the extra laundry of a sweaty t-shirt when I don’t have to? People always ask how I “stay in shape” while eating all the delicious food I do. My answer is: define “in shape” 🤣 By no means am I “a twig”, but I would like to think I am in fairly good shape. Do I have a six pack? Not even close - but maybe one day! Can I run a 6 minute mile? Absolutely- If it’s just one 😉 I love being in shape and staying fit, but at the same time I love love LOVE food. So this is my shape which always allows me to be a decent runner (if I say so myself) while eating great food! So here is to #MotivationMonday and I hope everyone strives to be the best shape of you that is perfect for your lifestyle!!
woke up to blue sky’s instead of the expected rainy morning. i couldn’t help but jump in for a swim when i got back from my 4 miles and it was high tide!! here’s to lots of relaxing and taking in some rays for the rest of the day 😎☀️
#nevermissamonday the treadmill edition. The "it was 🌧️ when I got up and the chance for ⛈️ was high and the radar map was covered with red and yellow blobs 😱🚫 so I played it safe and opted for the treadmill and it stopped raining during my workout and the ☀️ came out" version. 🙄😑😂 Oh well. Got it done. 💪 Mixed intervals - 30 seconds strong, 30 seconds recovery, 60 seconds strong, 60 seconds recovery, 90 seconds strong, 90 seconds recovery - on repeat and finished with 6 miles. 😅 I'll take it! Happy Monday, friends! Hope the sun is shining where you are! ♥️
#MedalMonday time! Oh she was a rainy, stormy, wet one but #RnRChicago did not disappoint-another amazing Chicago race is in the books. And out of 4x running #RnRChi , it’s my fastest. Which is pretty nice for also my 70th #halfmarathon . Congratulations to ALL the #runners ! @runrocknroll
Was it the weather? Was it the fact that I got 9+ hours of sleep last night? This morning’s run was one of those runs where you could just run forever and feel like you’re just floating on clouds. I also have zero complaints about that running view! Happy Monday!
“If you are PERSISTENT you will GET IT. If you are CONSISTENT you will KEEP IT.” 🏃🏻♀️💪🏻 6 days until @bmwdallasmarathon 26.2 training officially begins and until my love and I move to our new apartment in Plano!! 🤗🙉
As lovely as Richmond Park always is in the sun it’s so sad to see it looking so dry! I was also so tempted to jump in the stream and join the deer but had some concerns about wether they might get a bit angry 🦌
Run Report for Monday 7.23.18! > What are you doing today? >> What are your goals for this week? ... @RunEatRepeat - I did 16 miles yesterday - my longest run in a year!! So today I'm taking a walk and doing a lot of stretching. ✅
Mini-Goals - Put training plan on calendar. Stretch 10 minutes everyday. Get to sleep by 10pm. ✅
I was determined to get in a longer ride today after having to miss one on Saturday due to feeling a bit under the weather. Had I been thinking like a normal person I probably wouldn’t have set off in the middle of rush hour or on the day of a heatwave. Alas I am not normal and did both 🙃 Laps of Richmond which was definitely a good shout as meant at least the majority of my ride wasn’t stuck in London traffic. I did a few laps, a few hill repeats and a few sprint efforts, in that heat I am beyond impressed with my efforts and was very grateful to come back to a freezer stocked with ice cream and a massive glass of nesquik....summer essentials!
Just a simple, slow run. No catharsis of emotions, no big truths were elucidated- actually my mind is less at peace than it was before the run. Just legs moving under me, that’s all this run was. Sometimes that’s all you get and all you need. 💙 Week 4, Day 1: lower routine, 50 min jog, thorax/upper routine, dynamic flex, stretching #chicagomarathontraining#mamahasgoals
4 easy miles, have myself the goal of 10:15 per mile and hit it. Been doing research on running workouts and I must say, it's hard to find info for people like me who run to run or have a bunch of races. Everything is ok start x weeks out from your race and then you'll have a taper before your race.... I have 8 races, if I taper before each one I wont really even be running.....anybody got some suggestions?
🏊 1,000 meters non-stop! Yeah girl!! 🙌
I took it relatively easy today, trying to focus on not stopping instead of speed and it felt great after yesterday's great bike and run! Hoping to get a quick core workout done tonight after work! Gotta squeeze in what you can when you can to keep getting stronger! 💪
Also, getting kind of tired of the complaining and "Sunday Scaries" posts 🙄 Don't hate on Monday's y'all! Change your attitude and be grateful you GET to: go to work, exercise, prepare meals, and drive a car through traffic 😜 Make Monday's fun again and find the joy in the simple things!
Mondays are for HR based recovery miles 🏃♀️
In 2016, I developed severe hip impingement from over training for my 2nd half marathon. I was giving every training run everything I had, pushing hard 100% of the time. With the injury, I not only had to attend PT 3x a week for 4 months, but I also had to take a close to 8 month hiatus from running. Running was my everything in college - my morning routine, my goals, my stress relief ... It was a difficult time for me! During this time, I was able to do light swimming and strength training. Once I got the clear to start running again, I spoke with my PT about making sure I was injury free for years to come. Now, I run only 3x a week and strength train 3x a week. This is what works for me and my goals! I do 1 recovery run, 1 tempo run, and 1 long run a week. I lift chest/shoulders, back/biceps, and legs on strength days. .
For my recovery runs, I put my @garmin forerunner 645 on the HR monitoring face. I don’t even look at my pace. I just make sure I’m in the blue “easy” zone the whole run. I needed this recovery today for sure! We hiked 6 miles on Saturday after my long run 🙌🏻
Have a great week, #fitfam !
Good morning! ☀️😃 Guys, I was definitely anxious through the night wondering how this run 🏃🏻♀️ would go. After yesterday‘s fast, I did eat a bunch of calories 🥖🧀🍅when it was over, and tried to drink as much water 💦💧as I could handle. But after one of these 25 hour experiences, my body usually takes a few days to replenish and rehydrate. Although slow, 🐢I am very happy that I was able to pull off the mileage I wanted for today. I actually feel OK now and I will try to continue to hydrate hydrate hydrate 💦💧today and over the next few days. Completing the fast is a very big feeling of accomplishment 🎊🏆and gives me time for introspection and connecting to my soul without having physicality be in the way. It’s actually very cleansing. ☺️But now, back to my regular physical self 🙃🤪LOL I am on the way to school, left my husband with the kids who will then pass them over to my daughters to watch them while I am working in pursuit of a goal that I’ve had for many many years. Yesterday I was able to really think about the efforts of everyone who is supporting me in this endeavor and I thank each and every one of them: my husband and my children foremost, for understanding my absences and supporting my goals. ❤️❤️Make it a great day everyone!🙌🏻😃 #motherrunner#runningmom#momof6#familylife#runnersofinstagram#womensrunningcommunity#runitfast#run#runnerclick#runnercampaign#crazy mother runners #runningmotivation#fitgirl#distancerunning#momswhorun#thefunrunclub#ontheroadtonursingschool#futurern 💉 #summer2018
Energy gels are usually full of processed ingredients, create trash and the price tag can sometimes be expensive.
I originally bought these pouches for my kids to make healthy grab and go snacks but now that they are outgrowing that stage I resorted to using them for my long runs and races. Here is a quick at home way to make energy “gels”. The pouches are reusable (eco-friendly), I make the recipe once, freeze them and they last over a month (use about one a week). Best of all it is REAL food and it doesn’t give me stomach issues.
Cook the rice according to directions. Then put rice and all ingredients in high powered blender. Process until smooth. Separate into pouches and freeze. Swipe left for the recipe and nutritional facts.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again...pouring rain is never an excuse to not run.
It actually felt good as the first two miles were awful with 100% humidity 😩
This run was watch free, and with how long I ran I’m estimating I was right around that mileage.
Wishing my best runner friend @runthejourney all the luck as she begins marathon training today, can’t wait to cheer you on in November! 🏃🏽♀️
Goals for this week! Similar to my usual ones but it keeps me accountable to post them. I didn’t do great on water intake the weekend and I can feel it 😬 AND now that the auction is over I can switch from auction planning mode to wedding planning mode 😱😱😱 75 days til the wedding 👰🏻💍🤵🏻
4 rainy miles!
Oh boy, I had no idea I would be so sore after yesterday's slip and slide. 😳 I guess 6 hours on it was enough because I am SORE.
Happy Monday 😘 pick a goal this week and go after it!
✨Fuel Your Why✨
First, think of your why. This can be the reason you wake up every morning, the reason you live the way you do, the reason you make the sacrifices you do, every choice and day are chosen and lived because of this why.
You don’t have to share it, just think about it. It can be one thing, or ten, it’s yours.
Now think of your health and fitness. Are you spending enough time on this for yourself? Do you realize how important your health is? Okay, now think of your why not. If you aren’t physically active or where you want to be in your health and fitness, why not?
Drop the emoji if your why not is any of the following:
⏰not enough time in the day
🚫no gym access
🍓struggle with nutrition
👯♀️no accountability or a buddy
🤦🏻♀️I don’t have a plan to do
Let me help you! Drop your why nots below or send me a 💌. I want your why nots to disappear and your whys to be more important. I want to 🔥FUEL YOUR WHY.
We had a great anniversary weekend away and mostly stayed disconnected! We had a great time running the U of Okoboji half marathon on Saturday and had beautiful weather! 🌤
We ran the course in 1:50:33, which was actually a few minutes faster than I was anticipating. (Which somehow got me 2nd place in my age group 🥈) Even though it was my slowest time by many minutes, it was one of the best race experiences I have had. My husband and I were able to make conversation with other runners and were able to talk through the run! There was no pressure, no pre-race anxiety or regulations and I felt comfortable the whole race! 🏃🏻♀️🏃🏼♂️ •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Overall, we had had so much fun running together, eating out, laying by the lake, AC/DC tribute band, biking and so much more! Year 2 with my favorite guy has been awesome and I’m excited to see what year 3 has in store!! ❤️
P.s. Don’t mind the fuzzy race finish pictures with the watermark...we are way to cheap to spend $8 on a 4x6 photo...#dutch 🤷🏻♀️
Motivate, hydrate 💦 feel great!! But seriously folks, I just started my second week of my new 4 day a week workout program...and I have learned a couple of things 1. Don’t do a leg workout 🏋️♂️ the day before a long run 🏃♀️ of 13 miles: 2. I need to drink more water...so...TODAY..I started a water challenge. Along with my second week of my workout plan....all this because I NEED accountability to drink water!! Isn’t that crazy....I have found myself not drinking enough water, especially in the humidity I train in. So, if you are interested in learning about the benefits of water and being a part of this challenge, drop me an emoji below! 👇🏻
Gorgeous morning for a run at the lake! This is by far my favorite place to run. We have a great little loop around where we stay that has great views of the lake (see my Instastories). One of my goals is to own a house on Indian Point Circle. There are about 5 for sale right now, so the vision is certainly strong right now. 😂 We aren’t quite there yet, but I’m thinking it should be a goal before I turn 40! 😝 I have a little over 6 years, so that’s definitely plausible! Kept it short + easy today. Most of my runs this week will be like that this week, and I’m OK with that! This week is about relaxing as much as possible. I might have to do some work here or there, but my new motto is, “Build you business around your life; not your life around your business.”
These last 4 weeks have been marathon base building. I needed some focused workouts and distance to practice pacing in this heat/humidity and learn how to manage my body - to push myself without being unsafe in the conditions. I also needed to learn how to truly recover. To happily run easy days minutes / mile slower than tempo runs. I did this so that today, day one of a 14 week block leading to the Toyama Marathon at the end of October would feel strong. It’s a long journey - with a lot of summer running left - but day one started on the right foot. Beautifully executed 6 miles at 7:06 tempo pace (10km / 4:25 pace). Now to an ice bath. #eatrunlovetravel#marathontraining
Today is a rest day, but I thought I’d share this from the weekend. Early in Saturday’s run, I completed the MapMyRun #youvstheyear challenge! And it’s only July!
Now to revisit some of those other resolutions... 🙃
“The bird who dares to fall, is the bird who learns to fly.” — Unknown
Dare to begin. Dare to try. Dare to fail. Dare to fall. Dare to dream so big it takes your breath away. Dare to amaze yourself. Dare to say WHY THE HELL NOT. Dare to spend the rest of your days dancing on the branches and knowing if they break, you are strong enough to fly. #fellowflowers#womensrunningcommunity#oisellevolée#girlswhorun
“And one day she discovered that she was fierce, and strong, and full of fire, and that not even she could hold herself back because her passion burned brighter than her fears.” – Mark Anthony // Five miles to remind my legs of their power and my heart of her fire. It is something quite amazing when we stop holding ourselves back and just start allowing the magic to happen. When we start believing in ourselves and stop looking for the story of why we can’t. Our mind is our most powerful tool. Our legs will perform, our lungs will endure but our mind must believe. So tell it the story - over and over and over again - about why you are worthy of it. Ready for it. Made for it. You just might start believing it. 💕🌸
