I’ve not needed the motivation, the motivation needed me.  The blisters I developed during Race to the Stones have been a bit of a struggle. But I’m sure they’ve  been no where near as bad for some participants. ..
.. So here I am a week after THE event of the year, in fact apart from the usual, marriage and children, the event of my my life setting out new goals deciding on new training plans and cracking on. Setting those goals like I did last year for RTTS should do the job of keeping me motivated. ..
.. And the main event....... I went out for a kind of run today, no time, no pace and no route planned.  Just went out to test how my feet felt and how the legs managed. 5 mikes of run walk and feeling pretty pleased.  Now off to the gym to sign up....🙌🏻. The bigger plan...... .

I am not one to run in just a sports bra, let alone post about it! But as I trained these past two weeks on a treadmill at home I figured, why add the extra laundry of a sweaty t-shirt when I don’t have to? People always ask how I “stay in shape” while eating all the delicious food I do. My answer is: define “in shape” 🤣 By no means am I “a twig”, but I would like to think I am in fairly good shape. Do I have a six pack? Not even close - but maybe one day! Can I run a 6 minute mile? Absolutely- If it’s just one 😉 I love being in shape and staying fit, but at the same time I love love LOVE food. So this is my shape which always allows me to be a decent runner (if I say so myself) while eating great food! So here is to #MotivationMonday and I hope everyone strives to be the best shape of you that is perfect for your lifestyle!!

woke up to blue sky’s instead of the expected rainy morning. i couldn’t help but jump in for a swim when i got back from my 4 miles and it was high tide!! here’s to lots of relaxing and taking in some rays for the rest of the day 😎☀️

The "it was 🌧️ when I got up and the chance for ⛈️ was high and the radar map was covered with red and yellow blobs 😱🚫 so I played it safe and opted for the treadmill and it stopped raining during my workout and the ☀️ came out" version. 🙄😑😂 Oh well. Got it done. 💪 Mixed intervals - 30 seconds strong, 30 seconds recovery, 60 seconds strong, 60 seconds recovery, 90 seconds strong, 90 seconds recovery - on repeat and finished with 6 miles. 😅 I'll take it! Happy Monday, friends! Hope the sun is shining where you are! ♥️

Marathon Training: Week 10.

First week looping in Jack Daniels' 2Q plan. I like his approach of Medium Long Runs (MLR's) with speedwork and a long run that has a clear cutoff of 2.5 hours (although, I feel strong enough to push it to 3.) Volume has its place in marathon training, but it's definitely not the "be all and end all". I'm a firm believer that marathoners don't actually have to run that long of a distance to do well in a marathon.

2Q is nice because of the plan's flexibility and it's direct approach to speed + marathon specific work. Most of the quality runs are based on time, because JD suggests that the intensity matters more than the distance covered, making the two quality runs more challenging. My plan is to incorporate it into my weekly training schedule for the next 4 weeks and then taper.

It’s been incredibly hot this summer in London and long runs have become a real struggle. I guess it takes longer to recover whilst running in the heat. Plus, after any run 15+ km I fall asleep immediately after I’ve had something to eat. I can’t remember being so tired when it is cooler. But now, there’s no force to keep me awake 😴😴😴 I ran 17km today, slowly building up the distance for some more weeks, until I slow down. The marathon is on the 7th of September. .

I was determined to get in a longer ride today after having to miss one on Saturday due to feeling a bit under the weather. Had I been thinking like a normal person I probably wouldn’t have set off in the middle of rush hour or on the day of a heatwave. Alas I am not normal and did both 🙃 Laps of Richmond which was definitely a good shout as meant at least the majority of my ride wasn’t stuck in London traffic. I did a few laps, a few hill repeats and a few sprint efforts, in that heat I am beyond impressed with my efforts and was very grateful to come back to a freezer stocked with ice cream and a massive glass of nesquik....summer essentials!

Another windy + humid run. I haven’t run along the beach yet because the wind has been so intense both days I’ve been here. Instead I settled for a 3.5 mile out and back on the roads which wasn’t so bad!

In 2016, I developed severe hip impingement from over training for my 2nd half marathon. I was giving every training run everything I had, pushing hard 100% of the time. With the injury, I not only had to attend PT 3x a week for 4 months, but I also had to take a close to 8 month hiatus from running. Running was my everything in college - my morning routine, my goals, my stress relief ... It was a difficult time for me! During this time, I was able to do light swimming and strength training. Once I got the clear to start running again, I spoke with my PT about making sure I was injury free for years to come. Now, I run only 3x a week and strength train 3x a week. This is what works for me and my goals! I do 1 recovery run, 1 tempo run, and 1 long run a week. I lift chest/shoulders, back/biceps, and legs on strength days. .

For my recovery runs, I put my @garmin forerunner 645 on the HR monitoring face. I don’t even look at my pace. I just make sure I’m in the blue “easy” zone the whole run. I needed this recovery today for sure! We hiked 6 miles on Saturday after my long run 🙌🏻

Mondays are for HR based recovery miles 🏃‍♀️ . . . In 2016, I developed severe hip impingement from over training for my 2nd half marathon. I was giving every training run everything I had, pushing hard 100% of the time. With the injury, I not only had to attend PT 3x a week for 4 months, but I also had to take a close to 8 month hiatus from running. Running was my everything in college - my morning routine, my goals, my stress relief ... It was a difficult time for me! During this time, I was able to do light swimming and strength training. Once I got the clear to start running again, I spoke with my PT about making sure I was injury free for years to come. Now, I run only 3x a week and strength train 3x a week. This is what works for me and my goals! I do 1 recovery run, 1 tempo run, and 1 long run a week. I lift chest/shoulders, back/biceps, and legs on strength days. . . . In June I ran my first 50k at Dirty 30 .... A challenging course with 32 miles of loose rock and 7500’ of vertical gain all between 7500-9500’ of elevation. My first official hard af ultra. ...
On July 14th, I ran my first 50 miler. With some niggles that had been plaguing me since Quad Rock rearing their ugly heads and then some, I still managed to snag 10th female and 3rd in my age division. I’m reveling in it because it may be the only time this ever happens. ....

Good morning! ☀️😃 Guys, I was definitely anxious through the night wondering how this run 🏃🏻‍♀️ would go. After yesterday‘s fast, I did eat a bunch of calories 🥖🧀🍅when it was over, and tried to drink as much water 💦💧as I could handle. But after one of these 25 hour experiences, my body usually takes a few days to replenish and rehydrate. Although slow, 🐢I am very happy that I was able to pull off the mileage I wanted for today. I actually feel OK now and I will try to continue to hydrate hydrate hydrate 💦💧today and over the next few days. Completing the fast is a very big feeling of accomplishment 🎊🏆and gives me time for introspection and connecting to my soul without having physicality be in the way. It’s actually very cleansing. ☺️But now, back to my regular physical self 🙃🤪LOL I am on the way to school, left my husband with the kids who will then pass them over to my daughters to watch them while I am working in pursuit of a goal that I’ve had for many many years. I originally bought these pouches for my kids to make healthy grab and go snacks but now that they are outgrowing that stage I resorted to using them for my long runs and races. Here is a quick at home way to make energy “gels”. The pouches are reusable (eco-friendly), I make the recipe once, freeze them and they last over a month (use about one a week). Best of all it is REAL food and it doesn’t give me stomach issues.

Cook the rice according to directions. Then put rice and all ingredients in high powered blender. Process until smooth. Separate into pouches and freeze. Swipe left for the recipe and nutritional facts.

We had a great anniversary weekend away and mostly stayed disconnected! We had a great time running the U of Okoboji half marathon on Saturday and had beautiful weather! 🌤

We ran the course in 1:50:33, which was actually a few minutes faster than I was anticipating. (Which somehow got me 2nd place in my age group 🥈) Even though it was my slowest time by many minutes, it was one of the best race experiences I have had. My husband and I were able to make conversation with other runners and were able to talk through the run! There was no pressure, no pre-race anxiety or regulations and I felt comfortable the whole race! 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏼‍♂️ •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Overall, we had had so much fun running together, eating out, laying by the lake, AC/DC tribute band, biking and so much more! Year 2 with my favorite guy has been awesome and I’m excited to see what year 3 has in store!! ❤️

We had a great time running the U of Okoboji half marathon on Saturday and had beautiful weather! 🌤 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• We ran the course in 1:50:33, which was actually a few minutes faster than I was anticipating. (Which somehow got me 2nd place in my age group 🥈) Even though it was my slowest time by many minutes, it was one of the best race experiences I have had. My husband and I were able to make conversation with other runners and were able to talk through the run! There was no pressure, no pre-race anxiety or regulations and I felt comfortable the whole race! 🏃🏻‍♀️🏃🏼‍♂️ ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Overall, we had had so much fun running together, eating out, laying by the lake, AC/DC tribute band, biking and so much more! Year 2 with my favorite guy has been awesome and I’m excited to see what year 3 has in store!! ❤️ •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• P.s. Don’t do a leg workout 🏋️‍♂️ the day before a long run 🏃‍♀️ of 13 miles: 2. I need to drink more water...so...TODAY..I started a water challenge. I managed an easy 16k Saturday for my last long run before @runmelbourne, and an easy 6k Sunday. Shins felt fine saturday, however towards the end of my Sunday run my right inner shin was aching. These last 4 weeks have been marathon base building. I needed some focused workouts and distance to practice pacing in this heat/humidity and learn how to manage my body - to push myself without being unsafe in the conditions. I also needed to learn how to truly recover. To happily run easy days minutes / mile slower than tempo runs. I did this so that today, day one of a 14 week block leading to the Toyama Marathon at the end of October would feel strong. It’s a long journey - with a lot of summer running left - but day one started on the right foot. Beautifully executed 6 miles at 7:06 tempo pace (10km / 4:25 pace). Now to an ice bath. #eatrunlovetravel #marathontraining
