1986 Chateau Cheval Blanc: 1986 is not considered a great Right bank vintage. Many wines from this vintage have the reputation of being hard and austere. Seems like time has done a remarkable job on softening the edges on this wine. The blend on the vintage is 42% Merlot, 58% Cabernet franc. From my understanding, this is relatively high percentage of Cabernet franc for a Cheval. The aromatics were incredible. The wine had a vivid nose of tobacco and leather. On the palette, it was very elegant with pepper, dark fruit, subtle acidity and fine tannins. Very enjoyable. Outstanding bottle of wine.
I love food that transports me back to my childhood. Meet the Frita (pronounced free-tahs), Cuban Hamburger from @offthemilegables.
Pairing was made both easy and fun by Winestronomer, Pablo Suarez of @thewinemaverick. A food & wine consultant for ‘Under The Radar’ Restaurants, Pablo's wine choice, 'Cono Sur Bicicleta Cabernet Sauvignon' gets this Cubanita's approval.
Another day, another evening of trying wine pairings! It’s a tough life...
Tonight, we wolfed our way through @kruahthailtd ‘s selection of authentic ready meals with three of our wines. Luckily we think we found three unique combinations and food and wine which worked well - including a spectacular pairing of their Duck Red Curry with our Old Vine Kerner 2015 😱 Our wine came our tasting so rich and decadent 😋
Have to say that we were really impressed with Kruah Thai’s dishes. Tons of flavour, nuance, and such simple, honest ingredients!
“Ultra Pairing”- Williams Selyem, Burt Williams Morning Dew Ranch, Anderson Valley, 2012...Rich and layered with notes of pomegranate, raspberry, spicebox, minerals and fine tannins with a long finish...
Kitchen Table Pairing 7: Domaine De La Côte, “La Côte”, Sta. Rita Hills, CA, 2014...Elegant but with plenty of intensity. Complex already with notes of black raspberry, wild strawberries, spices and silky tannins.
The best meal I ate in Venice was at @BistrotdeVenise, a beautiful restaurant specialising in historical Venetian dishes and rare wines, not too far from Piazza San Marco (but definitely not a tourist trap!). They have a fantastic wine list of over 300 Italian and French labels, which includes wines from the Republic of Venice (Malvasia, Ribolla, Marzemino, Turchetta, Bianchetta, Raboso, Oseleta), and they also serve more than 60 wines by the glass. I got to try some stunning wines, which the Maître Sommelier, Stefano Cipolato, selected to pair with the Classic Venetian tasting menu. Fine Amarone with duck in “Sauce Pevarada” - magnifico! 😘👌

CHAMPAGNE BLANC DE BLANCS BRUT “COMTES DE CHAMPAGNE” - 2006 - TAITTINGER.

It’s the perfect day to be enjoying lunch at @lynmarestate with Chef David! His Chef’s Garden is pretty incredible, wander the path with a glass of Pinot in hand and inhale the fresh herbs and beauty.
Is it ever too early in the day to talk about wine?! Our favourite of the three rosés we’ve reviewed: Urban Provence. A gorgeous rose gold-hued wine with a juicy, creamy mouthfeel and red summer berries on the palate with a slight peppery note. Delicious with crudités and anchoïade.
Mildly cooler and cloudier days call for number 12, the Judith Beck Ink Burgenland from Austria, with its pronounced cherry 🍒, soft tannins 💫 & elegant spices 🌶. Shoutout to @cizzro for creating such an excellent backdrop and vibe. 👌
