I posted a while ago about some of the food and dining options at SFO… well, turns out Oakland airport has also been making improvements. OAK is breathing new life into its dining scene with an influx of popular local businesses. What’s notable about the roster of new businesses is the emphasis placed on homegrown talent. Tanya Holland, the Oakland soul food maven behind Brown Sugar Kitchen, has been given the green light to open her first airport location. The East Bay chef will put into place an outpost of her growing counter-service venture, Brown Sugar Kitchen Counter, which is also putting down roots in the San Francisco Ferry Building and in Uptown Oakland. The restaurant will be part of a 5,553 square-food hall called the Hangar, located in Terminal 2 near Gate 25. Joining Holland there will be San Leandro’s Drake’s Brewing and Red Bay Coffee, a black-owned coffee company based out of Oakland. Like Holland, the opening for Red Bay Coffee is part of the brand’s ongoing push to expand its national footprint.
But when it comes to the largest stand-alone projects in the avalanche of new airport tenants, the two biggest — at least in terms of individual scale — are beer-focused ventures. The grandest is a 3,878 square-foot sports-themed bar and restaurant called the Oakland A’s Club House, located at Terminal 1 near Gate 8. Following it closely is a 2,279 square-foot project from beer behemoth Sierra Nevada at Terminal 2 near Gate 28. And there’s more: Tay Ho Oakland, a spinoff of the Oakland Chinatown Vietnamese restaurant, will open at Terminal 2 near Gate 23. An outpost of Luka’s Taproom and Lounge will take shape at Terminal 1 near Gate 9. The list of popular Oakland spots goes on — Calavera, Southie and A16 will all open new airport outposts as well.
So if you are flying into or out of the Bay Area in the next couple of years, your stomach will be happy at least! / 📷 pho noodle soup from @tayhooakland .
We LOVE Greek food! Could eat it every day. Aaron found this spot, Symposio Taverna, on Google maps, where it's rated 4.6. He and his mom took a picture with the owner, who gave us a complimentary plate of the best Greek yogurt with honey and cinnamon at the end of our meal. It's always like this in Greece, everyone is so warm and welcoming.
Portland bucket list: sustainably sourced small batch artisan espresso ✔️🙈
Aside from Stumptown, Portland has over 40 coffee roasters within the city limits alone! It's also home to champion baristas and three national coffee magazines. ☕️
Sorry, #Seattle but Portland wins the title of US best coffee city 🙊🥇
While I may not follow a gluten free diet (surprise surprise), my sister in law does. So when we had a couple of free hours in Austin, she mentioned wanting to try @oddduckaustin since they are known for having great gluten free options!
We only tried a few things, but my favorite was this simple looking dish! Underneath the duck egg was a lovely combo of brown rice, mushrooms, and squash. When it was all mixed together, the end result was absolutely delicious!!
I have three words for you: Fresh. Marlin. Pizza. 🤩🤤
It’s not a pretty picture, but it was the most delicious thing I’ve ever had. No joke. Fresh marlin caught that morning, olives, onions and rocket. Preceded by the house made pineapple infused rum.👌 Thanks for the lovely welcome Cherry’s Pizza.
🗣Whats the last foreign food you ate?! 👅🍱🌮🥐
🙌🏼 Welcome to Paris, home to world-famous French cuisine AND dozens of delicious foreign food cultures! 🇫🇷🌎 To eat “like a local” here isn’t just stuffing your face with croissants and wine- it’s also trying out the latest global food trends and immigrant-owned restaurants. 🥐🍷🍣🍜
🗺 With a bustling gastronomic scene and vibrant immigrant community, Paris is the perfect place for restauranteurs to take global inspiration and get creative! 👨🏽🍳🎨 Just check out this vegan poke bowl by @les_lucettes I tried at the @smmmileveganpop vegan food festival! 🌱💚✅
🌺🐠 Poke is traditionally a Hawaiian fish dish (drop a 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️ if you knew that!) and is trending all over the globe. 🐟🌍 No two poke bowls will taste the same, which is why I’m delighted to try this vegan version in Paris (because it’s infused with French flavors and ingredients!) 🇫🇷👅😍
