Yesterday I was let in on one of the best kept secrets of New York: the Green Roof at the Javits Center! It is the largest Green Roof in NYC and one of the largest in America, stretching four whole entire blocks from West 34th St between 11th and 12th Avenues going up. It is a sea change from the days the famed convention hall was known for its mirrored glass which resulted in the death of hundreds of birds every year. Today, the mirrored glass has been replaced with frosted glass the birds can see, and the roof has been covered with Sedum, a low, drought resistant ground cover that absorbs water and heat. It now hosts up to 26 different species of birds, dozens of which nest right on the roof, and the sedum soaks up 7 million gallons of rainfall that would otherwise fill the storm drains. Greening the roof has also saved the Center over 20% on its energy costs, and the workers have started an apiary up there that has 11 bustling beehives from which the Center is now producing small batches of honey each year, called (appropriately) Jacob's Honey! I found this newly planted cherry tree up there next to the apiary, thriving with some of the prettiest cherries I've ever seen! Thanks to the staff at the Center for the invite to tour the roof and especially to Tony Sclafani for his for all the fascinating back story! I'm going to post some more shots from up there in an IG story, and if you Google it you can see more from the LiveCam up there which runs 24/7. Have a great day everyone and stay cool if you can!

High in the mountains of the east coast on the Big Island, there is a private art community where you can walk the streets and find a different gallery for every building you see. It was loaded with extremely talented artists, ranging from Paintings, to sculpture, to photography! Holualoa has so much to offer. Friendly locals, wildlife, music, and amazing local coffee!!
Where are we? 🤔🍎
We went shopping at the corner of the park and this magnificent window caught our eye. Too nice this point of the city from here. In short, did you understand what city we are talking about?😅
So easy guys...a big park, yellow cabs, skyscrapers...😍
Happy weekend! 😘
