Each time we have a hurricane, these jetties disappear a bit. The ocean deposits loads of sand and fills in the crevices and valleys the tides created since the last storm.
After the storm blows through, the boulders always look smaller, or maybe it's the beach has risen. Either way, the hurricane changes the face of our beautiful coastline. Then, over the course of time, before the next hurricane comes, we watch as the cycle of a day slowly brings the jetty back to it's glorious height. As the tide goes out, it creates glorious tide pools around the base of the stones that is great for shell hunting and seeing other amazing sea life.
I love photographing the changing face of the shoreline. The way it curves and shifts, but I also hate seeing it disappear. It's no secret that erosion is minimizing our beaches, whether that is caused by Nature or humans. Grain by grain, it's slowly washed away, one day at a time.
