Food has consumed my every move for most of my life. In yoga we define this as identifying ourselves with our thoughts rather than being able to see the reality of who we truly are. Our mind fluctuates...daily, hourly, even sometimes by the second. How can we un-attach from this potentially detrimental way of living in order to find enlightenment?? We sit. We feel. We choose not to run away when something difficult comes up. ✨
The source of everything is joy, right? The source of the entire universe is joy: boundless, limitless joy. But this feeling is so easily undermined when we are distracted by an opposing force. We need to use Abyhyasa—which means to practice...to sit with it for a while. So every time we have a reaction, a ‘why’ statement that pops into our heads, we note our reaction and then let it go. Then note the next reaction, and let that one go, too. And on and on. We do that as long as we need to, and what will happen is that what is not useful to us anymore will just fall away, and what is useful will keep arising more and more. And eventually we will be able to see ourselves as our true Self, our higher Self, rather than as a collection of all the things that run unceasingly through our minds.

Today, my eating disorder still creeps in on me during experiences that are difficult to sit in. But I know with enough practice (abhyasa) and non-attachment (vairagya), I will find my inner Self and run with her; every single time.

Another day another big plant based bowl 🙌 I told myself that I would have a big nutrient salad 🥗 every day throughout this summer and since today is the first actual day I guess this is number one of many to come 😆 I was fortunate enough to have another opportunity to come downtown for lunch at the amazing @sweetgrassfoodco today and because everything on the menu looks sooo good I decided to try something new and ordered the sweet potato 🍠 fennel bowl loaded with greens 🌱 lentils, hazelnuts, golden raisins along with the tasty white Japanese variety bites and it was incredible 🔥💯 Is anyone else setting any mindful intentions pertaining to their meals for this new season? #intentions #seasonaleating #mindfuleating .

A better option than tea bags and loose leaf tea for therapeutic benefits is to make your tea using real herbs and spices.

You can buy good quality tea from health food stores, if you are unsure do your research and look into the company supplying it.
•
Buying non-organic tea does not take away from therapeutic benefits, it just means that the leaves were sprayed with chemicals and pesticides in the growing process.
•
I use two hills tea organic matcha and drink it once a week in a latte, and sometimes I throw a tsp into my smoothies. All you need is ½ tsp, I use 1 tsp.

Gratitude for all the sweetness that comes from this space ...I read ever single comment on yesterday’s post and it brought me to tears thinking of all the wonderful people in this world!
Gratitude for the prayers that have been sent to heaven in our behalf. Gratitude to the miracles we have seen!
A few months ago, our oncologist (for whom I have nothing nice to say...and if you can’t say something nice...well...) called Dan with scan results. They weren’t good...and options were limited. He said, “Well Dan, you’ve had a good run...you’re not in pain now...but I expect that to change any day now..” Essentially he was saying, it’s been good knowing you..good luck. 
I was furious. I was heartbroken...angry...frustrated...defeated..sad.. so afraid. 
I have had a few similar moments along this journey and I handle them by going into my closet, turning off the lights, and falling on the floor in the fetal position crying. 
This time the despair was coupled with a toxic mix of hopelessness and anger (towards the tactless doctor) and I could begin to feel a darkness grow inside me. It was burrowing in my heart and mind and beginning to build a home there. In that moment of complete anguish I had to make a decision. The darkness was so inviting but intuitively I knew it would ruin me. And so with every ounce of strength I uttered my hardest prayer. Words that were hard to form and seemed to resist. Yet I knew held the answer. With tears streaming, I offered the only thing I could offer....”Heavenly Father...thank you for trusting our family with this trial...”
In that moment, that split second of time, the pain..the anger..the darkness...they were gone. Completely washed away. It was incredible. Impossible yet totally possible. In their place was peace, quiet, and calm. A feeling of reassurance that God was there and whispering “you can do this”.
Gratitude. I am filled to the brim with it this morning...under different, spectacular circumstances...and yet it offers the same peace and joy.

Good morning! This, if you didn’t know already, is me. A big thank you and hello to all of my new followers and also to those of you who are old friends - thanks for being by my side through all of my crazy antics. 😘

If you don’t know me very well, you might wonder why I talk so much about whole foods and baking. I love to bake. It’s my happy place. However, for many, many years I would bake cakes or cookies or pastries and afterwards we wouldn’t feel so good. ‘It’s just that I’m rubbish at baking,’ I would think. ‘I must be doing it wrong!´ At the same time as I was having all of these negative thoughts, Mr DF had been suffering with the daily toil of IBS. It was only when I stumbled upon the idea of excluding processed food that things began to make sense. We were gluten intolerant and stuck in a rut of eating what we thought were ‘healthy’ meals but mainly out of a packet and our insides were not thanking us!

8 months later, no IBS and food everyday that makes us feel great! I can indulge in one of my favourite hobbies, knowing that I can eat my efforts too!!! I can’t tell you how liberating it feels to eat without worry 🙆‍♀️

I'm not a massive drinker these days. I might have a glass of wine every other weekend if that. However the last few weekends we have had heaps on and because I'm all about the balanced life I have drank more than I usually would. Which brings me to the now.... a liver detox. .
A few signs to look for if you are needing a liver detox:
• Pain or discomfort over the liver (right upper abdominal area under the rib cage)
• Excessive abdominal fat or a pot belly
• Trouble digesting fatty foods
• Acid reflux/heartburn
• Overheating of the body & excessive perspiration
• Acne/rosacea or itchy, blotchy skin
• Unexplained weight gain and inability to lose weight.

Now although I don't have any of these signs, I am still choosing to do a gentle detox. I'll be continuing my lemon water daily, adding turmeric into my day through cooking and @freedomspices lattes, switching the coffee for dandelion root and supplementing with St. Mary's Thistle just for a little extra liver support. .

Growing up I was fortunate to have my grandfather's large vegetable garden, so eating fresh from the garden veggies was a daily occurrence. I may not have had veggies at breakfast and only occasionally at lunch, but dinner was not over until you ate the veggies on your plate. ⠀

My husband, Matt's family didn't have this hard and fast rule about vegetables.⠀

When we began living together he did begin eating veggies every night, but I didn't realize nor did he realize what impact that regular exposure had on his body until I started traveling frequently and he was left to his own devices to make his own food.⠀

I recall the first time he sent me a picture of his dinner (a huge salad of leafy greens and crucifers topped with avocado, protein, and goldfish crackers {this was before he went GF}) and the caption, "my vegetable meter was sounding."⠀

I laughed aloud and responded by saying, "you have a vegetable meter, huh? I didn't realize you had one." He retorted, "Neither did I!" 🤩⠀

At this time he wasn't eating a diet particularly heavy in the vegetable, just a regular daily consumption, even so, he as time had passed subtle changes had occurred in his body by just having this regular infusion of antioxidants, polyphenols, sulforaphanes etc from the vegetables he was consuming.⠀

Often I have patients tell me they feel their digestion is just smoother, they feel lighter, clearer thinking, have less aches and pains and just feel cleaner on the inside!⠀

Vegetables are mighty little powerhouses, creating health one bite at a time.⠀

My dinner this eve - sweet potato & basil falafel, mozzarella, fine green beans, cucumber, lettuce, tomato & basil. Think the boyf will regret he declined my offer of dinner! I used to have such an extreme diet but for me now it's all about healthy eating, getting good fats and lots of protein. Our bodies need fuel and I basically stuff mine full of predominantly whole foods these days, yum yum! -Cous-Cous with Sriracha Mayo⠀
-Blackberries⠀
-Steamed Broccoli⠀
-Edamame with fresh chili⠀
-Asian pickled salad⠀
-Avo with Omega-3 seeds⠀
-Celery sticks⠀
-Iceberg lettuce⠀
-Roasted pepper reduced fat hummus⠀

⛩Quickest Asian Pickled Salad⛩⠀

-Cucumber and carrot, sliced thinly like paper⠀
-1 tsp algae (any dry seaweed flakes will do)⠀
-Apple cider vinegar (1 took 1,5 tbsp per 1/3 carrot and 1/3 cucumber)⠀
-Sesame seeds⠀
-1 tbsp crystallized stevia⠀
✨Mix everything and let it sit for 5-10 minutes. But actually, the longer the better! Leave the leftovers to preserve 😉⠀
