Non-medical post here: Can’t believe J & I have been married for ☝🏻 month! Since both of us are in residency now, we wanted a way to wear wedding bands without worrying about losing them when we take them off for procedures. Here comes @lucky.rings to the rescue! Durable, affordable, and fun silicon bands that come in a variety of colors, they are perfect for the wards! Check them out!
One year ago, I received my white coat. I was about to head off on my first clinical experience and I was nervous as hell. Still nervous for what’s ahead, but there’s more excitement thrown in too. Just waiting anxiously for the opportunities that await me in this profession while trying to remain present in the now!
Dancing into the new week 💃🏻
Happy Monday Y’all!
Wishing everyone a week filled with a lotta love and happiness. Reminder to step into your greatness, find time to laugh and dance your booty off, and do whatever else that will create a revolution in your heart.
“Do whatever brings you to life. Follow your own fascinations, obsessions, and compulsions. Trust them. Create whatever causes a revolution in your heart.” -Elizabeth Gilbert
Checking out my new planner 😉I *hear* it’s going to be a crazy year 🤓🤪Luckily I have my favorite planner of all time. It’s like Christmas morning opening up a new planner! Anyone with me? 🙋🏻♀️And how cute are the customized tabs I added- becoming a first time homeowner ✔️planning a wedding ✔️a million to do lists for clinical year and preparing for the PANCE ✔️and of course, the best part...a gratitude list to keep me grounded this next year ❤️I frequently get asked what planner I use so I thought I’d share! I also added this cute notebook to use while on rotations and it fits perfectly in my whitecoat 👩🏻⚕️❤️#plumpaper @plumpaper #winplumpaper#needtowinbotox#andkybella
Eating healthy during this trip has been harder than I expected it to be😁 But hey, I’m a vegetarian in a rural area of a country where they cannot conceive a meal without meat - or at least that has been my experience😂 so I’ve been trying my best to get all the nutrients I need and have found myself eating more eggs and yogurt than I usually do and... more than one empanada a day in multiple occasions🙊 the important part is that I’m aware that balance is key and that I have to make sure my body is getting everything it needs, even if it’s taking a bit more effort than usual🥗.
So cheers to restaurants with great vegetarian options - like this one, with a gourmet salad that I still can’t get off my mind even if I ate it two weeks ago😂
Got taken to the whitecoats today, my icky eye is from pasturella 😷 (I probably got it while I was a stray)
They've given me some antibiotics and ointment for my eye, so hopefully I'll be feeling better in no time!
Today was another day well spent working with an integrative family medicine physician. I really like his approach of figuring out why someone is sick rather than treating the symptoms. For example, hypertension is the body’s response to some stimulus. His goal is to figure out what that stimulus is and how to calm it down. With this doctor, I got to witness acupuncture, vagus nerve stimulation, and motivational interviewing. We had patients with complains anywhere from ADD in young children to digestive issues, arthritis, rare metabolic disorders, Lyme disease, mold toxicity, fungal infections, and various autoimmune diseases. .
Part of the reason I love working with this doctor is his kind, gentle approach. He is not pushy with any lifestyle or dietary changes and simply plants the seed. That way, the patient feels like it is his/her own choice to make the change. A patient may say how she has sugar cravings and loves eating cookies. He’ll ask a little more about the patient’s sugar habits and talk a little about sugar’s role in the disease process. That gets the patient thinking about sugar’s potential harms. At subsequent visits, the two will explore more about the patient’s sugar habits in a safe, friendly conversation, motivating the patient to make changes on her own. .
There are physiological stressors in everyone’s life that contribute to disease. At least half of what this doctor does is act like a psychiatrist, exploring the patient’s stresses, potential anxiety and depression, relationship struggles, and more to get the full picture of what is going on and support the patient as much as possible. There is so much power in positivity, and this doctor does all he can to support his patients’ mental health. .

My free time basically consists of eating good food + studying. The fact of the matter is that goals aren’t achieved over night. They consist of small steps everyday which finally amount to big accomplishments. Pace yourself, don’t overwhelm yourself and mostly don’t compare yourself to others. You’ll get to where you need to be. Happy Monday! #mondaymotivation#fnpstudent#gradschool
