There is this place called Roing in eastern Arunachal which connects to rest of Arunachal via only road link which happens to be passing through a region where Brahmaputra happens to enter the plains. And I can’t think of a worse place for infra projects.
To give you an idea, a distance of less than 100 kilometers even in the plains ends up consuming half the day as there are places where all vehicles, two at a time, have to be loaded on this ferry and this whole process takes long long time. And even many of the sections which are not done via ferry are terrible without any resemblance to a road. And this was early Spring. We’re told that in summers when the flow and river level increases due to faster melting of snow in the higher mountains, you just can’t cross from here. So you go all the way down to Assam and take a much longer route to reach Pasighat.
Honestly, the roads in the hills of Arunachal were in much better position than this section in the plains!!!
But there is a silver lining. You see that bridge on the right. That’s nearing its completion and that is indeed going to make a huge difference to lives of folks here.

PS: The monsoon has arrived with all its devastating effects on the human population due to flooding of many areas in the plains of the northeast. It’s sad to see what the folks living in and around Assam are having to go through. Since we hardly see any news about the NE in the mainstream media, here is my little attempt to fix some of that.
