Good afternoon supporters in Australia! The 40th edition Gold Coast Wheelchair Marathon is proving to be a record-breaking event with top athletes scheduled to compete! Australian Paralympian Madison de Rozario will be part of the top field competing. Madison won gold medals in the Women’s 1500m T54 and the Women’s Marathon T54 at the 2018 Commonwealth Games, Gold Coast, Queensland. Madison has had an amazing year also winning the London Marathon this past April. Australia’s Eliza Ault-Connell is expected to make the race exciting as she came in 2nd place at the 2018 Commonwealth Games 13 seconds behind Madison. The women’s wheelchair marathon will also feature local sportswoman, last year’s winner and Commonwealth Games para triathlete Sara Tait.
The men’s race also has a returning champion in Richard Colman from Victoria. Colman’s main rivals include Australian talent Jake Lappin and US wheelchair star Josh George.
Lappin, 25, won a bronze medal in the T54 1500m at the Commonwealth Games and placed sixth in the marathon.
George is a six-time world champion, four-time Paralympian and has won the London, Chicago, Los Angeles and Twin Cities marathons through his career. Come catch the action and cheer for your Australian team!
