NYC Stories: When one of your oldest friends from NYU is a badass social worker by day and conduit for creativity by night. And your husband teaches elementary school music and friend/former neighbor/running buddy works in finance by day and together form a musical group called Cauc-Asian by night. And a few sweet friends come out to support. And some of your fab past clients are performing and ridiculously talented. And an awesome mom-friend from the ‘hood volunteers to babysit so you can have a night out to enjoy this awesomeness. And the event helps raise money for rescue cats. NYC, sometimes you have ALL of my heart.
So... this year I will manage to miss TWO Easters. I am in Kyiv where, as in Bulgaria, it is Orthodox Easter next weekend, and... next weekend I will be in Spain by which time Easter will have been and gone. I don’t really hold with all this religion business, but this seems to be a suitable time and place to wish everyone a Happy Easter and, as the late, great Dave Allen used to say ‘May your God go with you’... #happyeaster#whatssofunnyaboutpeaceloveandunderstanding
My baby boy is sick so instead of marching we had to couch it today- the fomo was unbearable but getting to take in the DC speeches was so inspiring and emo- Van said “mom I want to be like that man” as we watched @davidmileshogg - that filled me with hope and pride- anyone who could possibly see any negativity within this movement or towards these kids or who tries to make excuses as to why change is impossible needs to truly assess their intentions - Ignorance is not an excuse! Change starts with each and every one of us WE DONT HAVE TO LIVE LIKE THIS #enough#whatssofunnyaboutpeaceloveandunderstanding
I was getting on-line to express my thanks for all of the kind words and and acknowledgments of my son’s 15th birthday when I learned of the tragic news coming out of Florida. And I am speechless.
Later on today there’s a celebration of that birthday and I am struck by the contrast to the painful gatherings that will happen elsewhere today. And I’m even more overwhelmed by these events because my son’s own high school was placed on “lockdown” on Tuesday—the second such event of the school year.
I have no idea how to explain all this to my son. Or to myself. I just know that—all politics aside—we are long past due addressing this worsening situation.
My heart breaks for all involved in the most recent of these all too common tragedies...and for all of us who hold our breath until the school day’s done.
Armed Forces is Elvis Costello's 3rd album, his 2nd with the Attractions, and the 1st to officially credit the Attractions on the cover. It was released in the UK by Radar Records and in the USA by Columbia in 1979. The album had the working title "Emotional Fascism." A great album and one of my favorite Costello LPs. A brilliant song writer! #elviscostello#armedforces#whatssofunnyaboutpeaceloveandunderstanding
