Sundays are my days. Houston mornings pass in soothing solitude as I chop, mince, tear, sample, sip and savor, prepping food for my family who bring uproarious laughter and mild chaos as soon as the kitchen door opens when they get back from church. My cooking is rewarded by spending the next few hours giggling at every story shared by my grandmother.
Today’s menu: •Salad with local greens from a Houston farm, avocado, roasted beets, apple, cucumber ribbons, feta, and green onion with an orange garlic dressing and edible flowers. •Artichoke dip with fried sage leaves, hella lemon zest, Gouda, Romano, garlic, etc. on fresh salted rosemary sourdough from Wheatsville. •Oaxacan hot chocolate infused with cardamom paired with pecan coffee bread for a mid-afternoon dessert.
Don’t fear the CARB.
Not all carbohydrates are created the same. There are simple, complex, low glycemic, high glycemic, grain feee, root, good ones, bad ones, fruits are carbs, and probably even more categories. Almost everything we eat has a carb. THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A NO CARB DIET. Find out which ones work for your body and which ones don’t. What portion and what timing works for you? We all have different metabolic make ups, different digestive systems, different activity levels, and different genetics. Food is our fuel and if carbohydrates work for you then eat up!
After our Whole Foods run, the hubby and I made some paninis for a late lunch (we also tried the new fuego @sietefoods tortillas). He did spicy mustard, turkey, and pepper jack cheese and I did @hopefoods spicy 🥑 hummus, @applegate turkey, spinach, and cherrie 🍅 both on @wholefoods seedless rye bread. Totally hit the spot! .

Yesterday's delicious meal at @bustanny. Pictured we have smoked eggplant carpaccio, trio of dips (tzatziki, hummus, spicy feta) with tandoori baked focaccia, market tomato salad, and roasted heirloom cauliflower. So many different flavors and very #veghead friendly. It was 😋👌🏻! #eatingout#restaurantreview

some simple yet delicious oats for breakfast this morning✨ woke up and whipped myself up this bowl in about 10 minutes, fueling up for my first full day in Hawaii! Traveling doesn’t mean you have to only eat out or eat unhealthily, it’s important to find ways to eat well while also enjoying all the food your destination offers!
1 cup of water heated in a small pot on the stovetop, 1/2 c oats and 1/4 banana (mashed) mixed in and stirred enough to absorb the water, served with 1/4 banana (sliced), strawberries, and some creamy peanut butter💛

Sunday breakfast @famecaffe. Omg!!! The food here is sooooo delicious. We got here at 8 and there was already a line (don’t get intimidated, the line moved quickly and the service was prompt). After we had our first bite, we were all so happy that we came here. I honestly don’t have anything negative to say about my visit. I love everything from their food to their decor and atmosphere. If you’re in the area and are looking for a place for breakfast/lunch, take my advice and give this place a try. I hope you will like it as much as I did.
