Crazy little fact I was just reminded of by looking at a map: the Grand Canyon is sandwiched between two gigantic manmade bodies of water (Lake Powell and Lake Mead), each of which is dammed (Glen Canyon Dam and the Hoover Dam). This isn't a shot of the Grand Canyon but a section of river upstream of there that certainly feels like a precursor to the grandness of the canyon to come.⠀

A few weeks ago, I posted a picture of myself hiking in a bikini. It was a cool photo (at least I thought so) and, honestly, I have reached a point in my life where I am pretty confident with myself and I generally don’t care what people think. I’m in my 30’s, married, two kids, and happy. However, that didn’t stop people, mostly women, from reaching out to me via DM here and on Facebook with the backhanded compliment bull crap, “WOW, you look AMAZING! Have you thought about trying (insert pyramid scheme here) to (insert way my body isn’t perfect here)? I really think you would benefit from it and you could even make some extra money from posting it on social media!” - FIRST OF ALL, what?! Since when is it ever okay to reach out to a complete stranger and basically tell them that they could look better? That’s not empowering, it’s embarrassing. It seriously made me question myself in ways I never had and trust me, I have definitely had my self-image struggles. I initially took down every single picture I had posted of myself in a bikini but the more I sat and thought about it, the more I realized that I’m not the problem, the problem is that these companies (MLMs/Direct Networking) are training (brainwashing) women to approach complete strangers on social media with the idea that everyone could benefit from losing weight or putting on a little makeup... it’s bullshit. You are beautiful the way you are. One more time for the people in the back: YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL THE WAY YOU ARE! Don’t let anyone tell you any different. ✌🏽
The best feeling in the world is doing some research, taking a chance and having it turn out amazing. My disclaimer: this may be nothing, I don’t know what the road is like, it could be a total bust, there’s no trail. Good thing I have people willing to explore with me, bushwhack, stumble and say “oh wow” 20 x in 10 min. Arizona has amazed me once again with a hidden gem and a complete absence of people on a Sunday. I love my state, a never ending playground to explore.
