I don’t mean reading the Bible app daily verse. I don’t mean reading a daily devotional. I don’t mean reading the current post of your favorite Christian influencer. I don’t mean reading a verse out of the Message for 2 seconds, posting about it, then considering your daily time in the Word “served.” And God didn’t mean for that either.
-
When God gave his children his very words...He did not intend them to be picked apart, chewed on for a few minutes then swallowed whole with whatever interpretation we are told to take away. And to be honest, friends I truly believe it breaks Gods heart to know that is (more often than not) how his word is being consumed by his kingdom.
-
We are given the gift of scripture for one huge and beautiful reason: so that we may know our God. His plans, his desires for our lives, his character, his works, his glory, his words. Yet we treat the Bible like a self-help glossary, pulling out whatever we want to hear, whatever best applies to our lives at the current moment, and whatever makes us feel better about ourselves.
-
Friends. Reading the Bible is not optional. It’s not a hassle. It’s not about whatever you can fit into your schedule. It’s not about what is most convenient or easy to understand. IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU. It is about getting to know your Father through the very words he so did NOT even have to give you...but He did so as a gift.
-
The scriptures are our life source friends. There is no God separate from them, there is no relationship with him outside of its pages. Period. Read the Bible. The WHOLE Bible. The Psalms AND the Chronicles. Romans AND Numbers. Meditate on it. Don’t just skim it’s words and move on as if that will have any sort of impact on you. Take in every bit of what God has graciously given you. Not cause you have to. Cause you GET to.
-
(For those who I know will ask, “BUT HOW!?” Come January 1st I will happily give you my 54 pg. answer🙃)

In an effort to make prayer more relatable and in trying to correct the years of coerced and forced prayer, I’m afraid we young Christians have gone in the opposite direction and have lost all reverence and meaning in prayer.
-
For example: teaching that “prayer is just talking to God” can be very misleading and can cause a lot of issues. I “just talk” to my dog sometimes. I “just talk” to myself. Anyone can mindlessly mutter out words to the air. That is not prayer. And believing so has led a lot of people to believe they have been “praying for things for years” despite the fact they have really just been talking at God for years.
-
Prayer is a much more supernatural and reverent gift than we acknowledge. Scriptures say that we are to pray by the SPIRIT. Those prayers are said “in the name of JESUS” our mediator and our means through which we can commune with God. They are then ultimately heard by THE FATHER who answers as he wills. Y’all. PRAYER IS STRAIGHT UP THE PROCESS OF THE TRINITY SPEAKING WITH ONE ANOTHER AND WE GET TO BE A PART OF THAT. LIKE WUTTTTT!?
-
No. It is not just “talking to God.” It is partaking in divine and reverent communication with the Godhead.

It is not just muttering off all we want and need. It is coming humbly before God acknowledging that you, by your own strength, cannot accomplish anything.

It is not just asking for things. It is placing the power of your life in Gods hands.

It is not me-centered. It is Spirit-centered, allowing God to direct your petitions and requests for he knows your heart even better than you.
-
Stop treating prayer like some casual list of wants & needs. It’s a beautiful and precious gift to communicate with our Father. It aligns our heart with his, it puts him first, it humbles ourselves to the point of saying “I can’t do this without you.”
-
Take an hour (ya you read that right...how much Netflix you watch today?) and sit before your father today. Don’t just talk at him. Communicate with him. Speak, listen, wait, reflect. BE REAL. Ask that he teach you to pray. Ask that the Spirit be present. Ask that your pride & selfishness be broken. Pray. Not cause you have to. Cause you GET to.

NEW SERIES ALERT🚨
SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES
-
As promised (like a month ago (whoops)) I’m gonna be doing a series this week all about different spiritual disciplines, what we miss out on when we don’t participate in them, and why they are such incredible gifts from our God.
-
So what are spiritual disciplines? I hate that I have to use this description but it’s fitting: its the attributes of Christianity nobody seems to WANT to do.
-
And that’s no surprise. Friends, Satan loves when you are stagnant in your walk with God. He knows he can’t take your faith from you. So what he’ll do is convince you that you are deep enough in your faith, that you don’t need to go any further, you don’t need to worry about growing. That DOING anything “too religious” is legalism. Christ already did all the work so now you can just sit back, be saved, and yell at anyone who tells you something different.
-
He tells you spiritual disciplines are unnecessary. He says that they are just extra things that you don’t really have time for. He says going for a hike is the same thing as church and self-help books and podcasts get you just as close to God as reading scripture or prayer. He says “why bother if you’re already saved?” (Yes friends. If you believe any of the above, those are lies from Satan. Lies far worse than “you’re not pretty” I’m afraid).
-
This series is to silence those lies once and for all and tell you why you need to bother with prayer, scripture reading, giving, and fasting (ya you read that last one right).
-
Fair warning ⚠️ : I already know I will be accused of telling people that if they don’t do these things then they aren’t “good Christians.” So let’s clear the air: no I’m not. I am bringing to light what God has already asked of us. If you believe it rude or pushy to call fellow believers into these disciplines then you can take that up with God cause he did it first🙃. Do you NEED to do these things? If you care at all about your relationship with God and desire to grow in intimacy with him...then yes. Yes you do.😁

To the Christian girl that’s feeling real alone this Sunday: you are never alone in your loneliness.
-
Times when I feel alone (yes that still happens to married people) I think of how alone Christ must have felt. Even his closest friends never fully understood him, none of them could grasp the kind of struggles he faced as both man and God, no one could really relate to walking the earth knowing it was only to serve as a human sacrifice. (As I type this my own loneliness is starting to feel really silly in comparison wow).
-
He knew loneliness, friend and he knows your aching heart all to well. We serve a beautiful God that sent his Son, not just as a sacrifice but as a man in our likeness who would know our hurts and struggles. If you are feeling alone...same girl...and we are in the mightiest of company. Jesus knows our lonely hearts well and he is walking near assuring you, the loneliest of hearts can still do great and mighty things for God’s glory. Lean into the presence of your Father...his presence was enough for Jesus and it sure is enough for me.
-
I would also like to take this time to acknowledge my baller fire making skills. That’s legit wood from outside our apartment y’all. I may have been alone but dat FIRE FROM THE HOLY GHOST WAS BURNING! 😂🔥🙌🏻

Unpopular opinion: I love Facebook comment sections.
-
Don’t get me wrong. I totally get and understand our tendency to see the freedom and ease through which people can say whatever they like as an evil or corruption. Most of what people write is either horrible, pointless, or a meme. But I gotta say as a minister...I eat it all up!!!
-
It opens my eyes. It gets me out of my limited bubble. It brings to light issues and faulty thinking that I otherwise would have never known existed. It shines a light on the dark spots of Christian thinking, Christian living, and Christian theology. It reveals the innermost feelings and thoughts of people. It’s unfiltered (even if it should be) it’s bold (even when it shouldn’t be.) It makes me want to be better at this crazy online ministry God has given me.
-
I don’t recommend everyone scroll through that type of filth day in and day out. And FOR SURE don’t recommend participating. But just your daily dose of truth: social media can be brutal, ugly, and corrupt. But guess what. That’s our fault...not an apps.
-
I’d honestly rather read the nasty truth in comment sections than the fluffy bull we as christians feed to each other as we try and cover up our brokenness. No matter how pretty our insta feeds are or how much calligraphy we fill our Bibles with, there are still so many dark spots and so much faulty thinking going on in Christianity today. So let’s be willing to sift though the ugly, dig into the corrupt, fight through the brutal and get to the heart of what needs fixing around here.

Something that always made me uncomfortable: how Jesus treated the Pharisees.
-
Seriously y’all. Often it seems he was straight MEAN to these dudes. He called them names, belittled their questions, shut down any disagreement they had with him. You read one story full of grace and mercy and all of a sudden BOOM Jesus is talking to a Pharisee and he turns into the big bad wolf! Like WUT?
-
The church likes to point fingers at the Pharisees like “oh ya they totally deserved that.” But friendly reminder Christian friends: often WE are the Pharisees. We are the religiously wise, the handlers of scripture, the people that are to know better. So I think it’s important we pause for a second and think about how Jesus treated these men.
-
Did Jesus really love them? How could he? He called them serpents! He constantly disagreed with them! He put them down time and time again! HOW IS THAT LOVING? That seems so blunt and so mean!
-
Well here is what I suppose: Jesus acted that way BECAUSE he loved them.
-
He knew tender words and beating around the bush would not work with these dudes. He knew they needed a stern hand and a calling out. In the grand scheme of what was best for these men, Jesus did what he needed to do...even if it seemed harsh, mean, or “too much.” They needed a wake up call. And he loved them enough to be the one to give it.
-
As believers, we are the ones most at risk for believing we no longer need help, need scripture, need truth, need correction. We think just because we said a prayer of salvation at age 6 we are all good and know what’s best. I know I thought that. And i know from experience its then we most need a stern kick to the gonads. Not because it feels good. Not even because it “feels” loving. But because it IS loving.
-
It is loving to give people what they need, even if they hate you for it. It is loving to be honest, even if people prefer a gentle lie. It is loving to be stern, even when everyone around you is serving fluff. It is loving because it leads us to the fullness of God.
-
The next time you feel biblical truth is too harsh, just remember the Pharisees probably felt the same. But Jesus man, he loved them way too much to care.

God will provide. (Also story time)
-
Yesterday they had unit inspections at our apartments and I always get really uncomfortable when they come in so I decided I’d spend the day working at my parents house.
-
After a few hours of work I decided to take this nugget for a walk. The thing is, Piper sucks at walking. She gets super distracted and does much better off leash exploring. So I instantly thought of this little place I found when I was 13.
-
I found it on a run once in my parents neighborhood. Behind a bunch of houses, only accessible through a long walk through tall grass and possibly a knocked down “no trespassing” sign🙃
-
It was super secluded and away from everything else. I would go there often in HS to think about boys 🙄 cry about friend drama or really just to get away from my parents. Over 5 years later and the same secluded patch of nature still remained.
-
Without giving too much detail, God has been giving me lots of reasons to pray lately (as if I needed more). Being a very task oriented person, it’s been easy for school, this ministry, and my e-book to all become distractions that pull me from necessary prayer and reflection. But God provided still.
-
He guided me back to this little patch of silence. Where Piper could wonder and roam and my phone could lose its reception. Where I could sit on the earth and soak in the presence of my Father. Where I couldn’t lug my seminary books or work on pages for my book. Where I could just cry and speak and wait and pray.
-
A lot of people promise you that God will provide. They often mean he will provide answers or reasons or plans or desires. That’s not AT ALL what I’m telling you because that’s not always true.
-
When I say God provides this is what I mean (and also what the Bible means BTW): He provides opportunities to succumb to his presence. He provides moments of surrender and silence and sitting patiently. He provides chances to trust Him. He provides chances to rid you of yourself. Yes, our God is a beautiful provider. He provides almost never what you want but always what you need.
-
Thank you Father for always providing more of you. It’s all I want, all I need.

My Monstera is growing into the house. 🤷🏼‍♀️ It was a Lowe’s rescue more than a year ago and was riddled with fungus and rotting roots. “We just need to love like Jesus loved”
-
This is the current summary of our duty as Christians. And friends, it’s not wrong. This is absolutely our call. To love God and love others the way that Jesus did. But can we FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY, STOP saying this like it’s so easy and matter of fact?
-
Y’all have any idea how radical the love of Jesus was? Jesus’ love wasn’t just making people feel good, it wasn’t just supporting whatever anyone wanted to do, it wasn’t just making everyone around him feel encouraged, it wasn’t just saying a bunch of nice sounding things so people feel better, it wasn’t shying away from hard truths because he didn’t want people to get the wrong idea.
-
His love was BRUTAL. It hit deep. It moved mountains. It called people out. It was filled with conviction. It didn’t cut corners or sugar coat. It was real. It said “I love you too much to allow you to continue living in sin or deceit.” It cared far more about people getting closer to the Father then it did people liking what he had to say. It divided father against son and mother against daughter. IT PISSED PEOPLE OFF. It had people ready to stone him within minutes!
-
And not because His love made everyone feel happy. Not because it made everyone feel like they could all achieve their dreams. And certainly not because it made everyone feel better about themselves!!!! THATS NOT LOVE FAM. At least not the love that Jesus gave.
-
So if we all wanna jump on the bandwagon of “I’m just trying to love like Jesus loved.” GREAT. LETS DO THAT THEN. Let’s quite pretending His love was as simple as making everyone feel special and awesome and let’s do the hard work, do what no one actually wants to do, and ACTUALLY love like Jesus loved.

When we think of inspiring biblical leaders, most of our minds turn to Abraham, Moses, or maybe David. But can I just say that the prophets of the Old Testament do NOT get the credit they deserve for being the incredible leaders that they were.
-
Nehemiah man. It’s been a while since I’ve been so inspired in reading about a biblical leader. He never had the glamorous title of King like David did, he would not go down in history as the recipient of a brand new covenant like Abraham or Moses. But man did this dude go to work for the kingdom of God.
-
He dealt with ridiculous accusations, people constantly trying to discredit his role as a leader, he had to build a friggin temple with materials in one hand and a WEAPON in the other. He wasn’t blessed with some new profound message but was blessed with the task of reminding people of the message already spoken and rebuking them so that they may return to that message. Nehemiah did not have a glamorous role in the grand scheme of biblical leaders. Nehemiah got down and dirty, was in the grime and the mess, and showed that often leadership is not about titles or esteem or credit but is in the details, the correction, and the jobs nobody wants to do.
-
If you are waiting for an application to your life, I’m not giving you one. This isn’t about you. Or me. It’s about this dude Nehemiah. Who went to work for the kingdom of God. Who didn’t get a whole lot of personal glory or praise from what we see. But who no doubt is remembered with such high favor in the eyes of God. And man should that and that alone be the goal of every single leader who claims to bear the name of God. Much love Nehemiah, you good and faithful servant.
When we think of inspiring biblical leaders, most of our minds turn to Abraham, Moses, or maybe David. But can I just say that the prophets of the Old Testament do NOT get the credit they deserve for being the incredible leaders that they were. - Nehemiah man. When I was 5 I said a prayer.
When I was 12 I knew the Gospel.
When I was 14 I knew Gods presence was legit.
When I was 17 I knew all I wanted was to do whatever I wanted.
When I was 18 I knew I wanted nothing to do with God.
When I was 19 I understood how broken I really was and surrendered my life to Jesus Christ, finally receiving salvation.
-
If the story God has given me has taught me anything, it is that we can know a lot of things without ever understanding. I knew the Gospel, I knew Jesus, I knew Gods presence and love. But it took 19 years to understand. To understand what all of that meant. To understand I will never be done trying to understand.
-
I pulled out these old journals yesterday and sobbed tears of joy being able to read my first thoughts in truly understanding the Gospel just 4 years ago. What’s represented in these pages is a mess of a sinner finally understanding. Finally putting all that knowledge to work.
-
Knowing a lot about God and Jesus is meaningless.
Knowing about his love is useless.
Knowing certain bible verses is pointless.
Unless you understand.
Understand that God is who he says he is.
Understand that his love is more than a good feeling.
Understand that His word is our source of life and knowledge.
-
This country (and this app) is filled with a lot Christians who know. But very few understand. Understand that salvation is more than a prayer, that life with Christ is more than an eternal life guarantee, that surrender is a part of the deal. It took me 19 years to understand. And for the past 4 years, and for eternity more I have spent and will spend my life furthering that understanding and seeking to help others understand what they think they already know.
-
Happy anniversary JC. You’ve given me a bomb story. 4 years later, I’m still just trying to not screw it all up. ❤️

Studying the fruit of the Spirit, and enjoying our sweet random figs, from a tree we believed was done for by a heavy storm. Changed, and somewhat damaged, but bearing fruit just the same. One of the fallen green branches, I covered partially, and it looks like they may have taken root.

Just because the Holy Spirit CAN use it...doesn’t mean it is good or right.
-
When calling out certain things as unbiblical or unholy, almost always those that take offense offer up the same argument...”well the Holy Spirit can use or has used it so clearly it’s okay.”
-
I’ve heard this defense for books and devotionals filled with false teaching, for using faulty biblical translations, for marrying or dating an unbeliever, for misusing and misinterpreting scripture. “Well good is coming from it and the Holy Spirit is using it so who am I to go against it?”
-
You know what else the Holy Spirit uses? Sin. The evils of men. Our poor decisions. Tragic situations. Should we desire more of those as well? Certainly not!
-
The Holy Spirit can and does use ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING for the glory of God and for the good of those that love him. That does NOT mean that everything he uses should be deemed righteous or acceptable.
-
Our mark for what is “good” and “right” is God and his word. Period. If what we are doing, what we are reading, what we are teaching is not rooted in either...we must take pause. Always. Even if the Holy Spirit CAN use it, that doesn’t make it biblical. That doesn’t make it good. And if he can use something unbiblical for good, can you just imagine what he does with things that are biblical!?

I call them the big 3: relationships, identity, purpose.
-
Nearly every single christian caption, book, or blog geared toward women will fall into one of those three categories. Seriously. Check. I dare you.
-
I’m not sure which came first, our own obsession with all these things, or the forcing of them down our throats. But either way this lady has had enough.
-
Cause the thing is, the big three all have something very scary in common: They are all about YOU. How does God apply to your love life? How does God see you? What are God’s great plans for your life? YOU YOU YOU!!!
-
Hear me out. Understanding these aspects of life and how God applies to them is so very important. I also get that it’s very easy and comfortable for us to simply gravitate toward the aspects of God that we see in our day to day lives.
-
But Ladies. God is so much greater that your personal experience of him. His love goes far beyond your own feelings of it.
Your identity is nothing compared to his.
Your purpose is not even centered around you, but is centered around his perfect plans.
And until you realize that God is so much greater than you and your personal life you are going to be missing out on SO MUCH GOODNESS!!!
-
Ministers: STOP. Stop caving to the most popular topic demanded. As a leader YOU demand that women care about things deeper than themselves.
Ladies: broaden your horizons. Seek out theologically solid women, ask bigger and bolder questions, push yourself and stop settling for cookie cutter messages that only serve to make you feel better. We are better than the big three. And God? HOLY CRAP is he bigger than your relationships, identity, and purpose.

I get asked a lot about having opposite sex friendships while married.
-
Caleb Newton is my answer. This dude. He celebrates me and Troy. He celebrates me and my ministry. He is a Christlike friend and Godly man whom I am beyond blessed to know. Fun fact: an encouraging and convicting message from him one night is what led to my e-book. He knows how to uplift and support women without being a creep and idk what better compliment I could give a dude.
-
Happy birthday friend. Thanks for being an incredible example of a married lady having some bros who know how to laugh at ridiculous things, rag on each other every now and then, and point one another toward Godly lives, surrendered to His will.

Psalm 37:4
-
Okay. This HAS to mean that God will give us all of our desires! At the very least it must mean that as long as our desire is “Godly” or “holy” God will certainly give it to us. Sure it may take a lot of waiting and “faith” but as long as we are following God and being obedient...it WILL come. Guaranteed.
-
Guys I so get how badly we want that to be true. Trust me I do. I believed that myself for so long. So I can tell you from a very personal experience how painful and frustrating this misinterpretation is. I can assure you that while it sounds lovely, the reality of this false teaching is an unbelievable consumption of self, an unrelenting anxiousness, and an overwhelming sense of pride and stubbornness.
-
Y’all. The truth and context of this verse doesn’t come from the chapter before. Not even from the verse before. It comes from within this very sentence. But our culture, being so consumed with personal desires and goals, has completely blotted our the very first words spoken in this popular verse: “DELIGHT IN THE LORD.”
-
This doesn’t just mean think about God.
It doesn’t just mean love God.
It doesn’t just mean be obedient.
It doesn’t just mean be faithful.
It means to take an overwhelming pleasure in the Lord.
-
Beyond your wants, beyond your desires, beyond having all the things you think are good and right. Take your delight, place your desires in the LORD.
-
Because when you delight in him friends. When your utmost want is to be in his presence...Your desires are his desires. And I can 100% guarantee that his desires for you go far and beyond whatever you think you want right now. (No matter how good or righteous it seems.)
-
His desire is for you to live a life of purpose (in every season no matter where he places you.)
His desire is for you to know him intimately and passionately.
His desire is for you to trust him and his plan more than your desires or personal plans.
His desire is for you to glorify him.
And man will he give you those desires. Every. Single. One. And if those desires aren’t enough for you...you are certainly not delighting in the Lord.

Romans 8:28
-
What does “good” mean? To us it often means what God does will always feel good. It may mean good opportunities, good success, good personal achievement. It may also mean that even if something doesn’t feel good at the time, we will later understand why it was good.
-
But friends, what happens when that isn’t true? When we never see a situation turn good? When some are aching and waiting for answers, crying to God “HOW CAN THIS BE FOR MY GOOD?” And still no goodness seems to come? Does that mean this verse is false? Does that mean only a special few get to experience its promise? Certainly not.
-
Friends what I have learned is that this verse has very little to do with our temporary or earthly good. This sweet, sweet promise is that of an eternal and spiritual good. And here is why you desperately need to care about that difference...
-
God did not promise you every individual situation in your life will end up “good.”
He did not assure you that you, on your last day, will look back and say “yup...I get why all of that was good.”
And if you expect that sort of promise from God, boy are you in for some hard times and disappointment.
-
But there is still hope. Because what he does promise you is something so much greater.
-
He promises you eternal goodness.
He promises you an ending goodness. (that may or may not be revealed to you in this life)
He also promises your salvation.
He promises your election.
He promises your justification.
He promises your glorification. (Srsly y’all. The very next verse says all that. Context ain’t hard.)
And to me the sweetest part? He promises your spiritual goodness through being conformed to Christ.
AND HOLY CRAP IS ALL THAT ENOUGH GOODNESS TO KEEP US CELEBRATING OUR ENTIRE EARTHLY LIVES.
-
That is the goodness promised in this verse friends. That is the goodness we are called to hold onto. A goodness that goes so far beyond this life and it’s temporary circumstances, pains, and trials. God is working for your good. Even if you never see it. Even if it takes eternal life to fully achieve it. Even if that goodness never comes in the forms of our utmost desires or wildest dreams...it. is. still. good.

Ever wonder why I seem so aggravated at fluff?
-
Why I call it all out? Why I get so passionate about speaking truth over things that simply sound nice? Why I can’t stand things that aren’t biblical or grounded in Christ? After all it would be really easy to hang back and say “well it isn’t hurting anyone.”
-
But the thing is friends...it is hurting people. It hurt me.
-
3 years ago I was the girl eating it all up. I ate whatever some Christian fed. I thought anything popular in christian culture must be true and biblical. I “believed in myself”, had all these great and crazy dreams. Had all these expectations of God and all that he would do for me.
-
Then this past year it hit me hard. It felt like God was no longer good, it felt like he was shooting down my dreams, felt like he was punishing me, on a good day He simply felt unnecessary. That’s what fluff does.
-
It makes you feel your dreams and goals are as important as God’s
It makes you feel like your happiness is the ultimate goal
It makes you feel like God owes you things, that he will always deliver
It makes you feel like you know God, when in reality all that you know couldn’t be farther from who he truly is
-
I hate fluff. I hate what it does. I hate the deception it causes. You may feel like it’s not hurting you now...just wait. Wait until God is all you have left, wait until your dreams are crushed, wait until all the blessing and all the material has vanished...fluff won’t save you then. All it will have done is leave you in a very confused and broken state.
-
You need truth. Even if it doesn’t make you happy now. Even if it hurts now. Even if you don’t agree with it now. It will be the one and only thing to save you when your fluff has vaporized. It will be what you lean on to get back to God... the real one, not the fluffy one that Instagram and Pinterest like to portray.
-
And then you’ll be the one outraged at the lies you were fed, frustrated with the people that fed them, calling out fluff and the damage it leaves behind its pretty facade.

Yesterday was a day.
-
You know the kind. The kind of day where the Holy Spirit is just digging away at your issues, shedding light on the dark spaces of your heart that you try desperately to ignore. The kind where nothing real eventful happens but at the end of it you feel like every choice you’ve ever made was a poor one. The kind where every truth you know, every fact you rest on all of a sudden feels shaken and weak.
-
It’s easy to come to the end of days like that and think “today sucked.”
-
Tbh I was right about there come 10 pm. But something stopped me from coming to that conclusion. The same something I preach every day and rest my entire ministry on. (Lol proves none of this comes from me but good ol JC)
-
Not everything that feels good is good. And not everything that feels bad is bad.
-
Yesterday felt BAD. I felt bad, my life felt bad, my ministry felt bad. Every fiber of my being just screamed UGH. But boy was yesterday good. I don’t know how and I don’t know why but yesterday was a day God thought I needed. It was a day he orchestrated for me to just let it out. It was a day that brought me closer to him.
-
That’s the thing friends, if you are truly surrendered to Christ. If your goal is to simply live for him. Every single day, even the bad days, they are a part of your sanctification. They are a part of God’s plan for you. They are a part of who you are and who you are becoming.
-
I think I am finally at a point in my walk with God...I don’t really have bad days. I have days that hurt, that suck, that I can’t wait to be over...but He still makes those days good. Maybe not good feeling or good for my emotions...but good for his glory. And I’ll be darned if that isn’t good enough for me.
Yesterday was a day. - You know the kind. - It’s easy to come to the end of days like that and think “today sucked.” - Tbh I was right about there come 10 pm. But something stopped me from coming to that conclusion. The same something I preach every day and rest my entire ministry on. This lesson on humility brought to you by the humblest of kitchens
-
The past year and a half has been humbling to say the least. It’s easy to feel worthless when you aren’t getting paid. It’s easy to feel aimless when you don’t have a set goal. It’s easy to feel lost when everyone around you seems like they have found their perfect place. But I gotta say, this season of no salary, no end goal, no place of belonging...it’s been the best season of my friggin life.
-
It’s been painful, long, often boring. It’s felt small, uneventful, yet at the same time, heavy. But man have I loved the crap out of it.
-
It sucks as Christians that we think the best times of our lives will be when we are comfortable, fulfilled, calm, successful. That things will only be good when we get what we want, when we are showered with blessing. We of all people should know better.
-
If you are comfortable you won’t need a comforter.
If you are fulfilled you won’t be looking for the Spirit to fill you.
If you are calm you won’t be searching for the Prince of Peace.
If you are successful you won’t need your Savior.
-
The best times, the sweetest times, friends...they aren’t when everything is going great. They are when you are barely breathing, on your knees, fully broken, humbled...in complete and utter surrender and submission to your comforter, the Holy Spirit, the Prince of Peace, your Savior. Those are the best times of our lives friends...the times we are closest to our Father, fully leaning on his character.

Lets talk about hurts from former ministries.
-
Let’s talk about people who have genuine hearts for the Lord yet simultaneously cause you great pain.
Let’s talk about mentors or leaders that have let you down and made you feel small.
Let’s talk about small groups that turned their backs or bible studies that left you behind.
I’m not talking the fake Christians, the mean pastors, the crazy small group leaders. But the believers you called friends. The leaders you trusted and respected for good reason. The ministries that molded you, did good for you, yet in the end left you hurt and maybe even bitter.
-
I wish I could tell you why all of that crap happens. Wish I could dig deep into the hearts of certain people and understand what biblical backing they have to do what they do...but honest truth: I have no idea why genuine believers and spirit led disciples are often the ones to cause incredible hurt and damage.
-
I have no capacity to understand how someone can claim to be following the guiding of the Spirit yet at the same time be leaving destruction of hearts behind them. How for some they do wonders in their hearts and lives but for you they left you broken and confused.
-
But here is what I do know. God is sovereign even in deception. He is good even through misguided hurt. There is no doubt in my mind that the ministries that hurt me, the leaders that left me, the genuine believers that cast me aside, they were all a part of God’s great and beautiful plan (notice how I didn’t say “plan FOR ME.” Sometimes the plan at hand isn’t about you and that’s okay).
-
I may never know why certain ministries act the way that they do, why certain believers treated me the way that they did...and honest truth I may never know because it may have never been about me in the first place.
-
But I will always know that God is in complete control. His plans are always just and right. He cares for me, my heart, and my hurt. And he will always use deception, pain, and confusion for his ultimate glory (even if that means it’s not for my temporary good).

I was at a conference once. 500 young women all eager and ready to grow in faith and learn more about their relationships with Christ. Open hearts and open minds...it was a ministers dream. The topic of the conference? Dating and marriage.😑
-
It hurt my heart. I couldn’t help but think:
“We are telling these girls to date with God at the center...but have yet to even tell them who God really is?”
“Never in a million years would 500 young men be gathered just to talk about dating and finding a future wife.”
Now before you roll your eyes...this isn’t a sexism issue...it’s a women’s issue.
-
I get it. The posts I make about relationships and dating easily get 10x the amount of attention than any post on God and his character. It’s easy to want to cater to your audience’s constant demand. But as ministers...our job is not to cater. It’s to teach and exhort so here we flipping go.
-
Women. It’s time we step it up.
It’s time we stop stressing about husbands and start stressing about hermeneutics.
It’s time we put down the Rachel Hollis book or the “Gospel for women” Devo and pick up the ACTUAL gospel found in the ACTUAL words of God.
It’s time we demand content, teachers, and speakers be realer, deeper, and theology-er.
It’s time we go beyond loving God with our hearts and souls and begin to love him with our MINDS and STRENGTH ( @katarmstrong1 )
-
Read the articles, buy the books, have the hard conversations...the ones that make you THINK. The ones that DON’T make you feel good. The ones that have nothing to do with you, your boyfriend, your husband, your body image, your success, or your identity. The ones where you have to google every other term. The ones that go beyond your emotions and tap into your wisdom.
-
We don’t need a female gospel, we don’t need the truths of the Bible watered down to how they apply to our workout regimen or dating habits. We need better.
Because theology is better than husbands.
God is better than your personal life.
Women are better than the “Christian” content that is being fed to them.

Trying out shorter captions.
-
Quickly realizing I’m an extremely long winded person (people that know me are laughing hysterically cause DUH).
-
Slowly forcing myself into learning that there is such beauty in the unsaid, the pauses, the silence. When we learn to shut up, to sit still, to ponder...oh what beauty we are finally able to behold from our Father.
-
(Didn’t at all mean for that to rhyme but wow. What a poet I am. 😂😂😂)

So I read this post about self-care yesterday and this woman was sharing how to properly take care of yourself
-
▪️Read self-help books
▪️Watch motivational speeches
▪️Surround yourself with motivational and positive words and messages
▪️Listen to self-help podcasts
▪️Make a list of everything that makes you happy
▪️Write on post-its everything you love about yourself and stick them around your house
▪️Write a kind letter to yourself
▪️Make a board of your goals
▪️Give yourself 5 compliments a day
-
Honestly? That seems like a lot of work and seeing a list like that only added to my stress of everything I should be doing to not be stressed anymore. LOL. So I say let’s keep it simple friends!
-
Best method of self-care? Care about Christ.
-
When you are fully satisfied in Him, you are fully satisfied in where he has you, who you made you to be, who he is making you into. The only joy to be experienced in this world comes through Christ...so care for yourself by surrounding yourself with Him. Let the world keep its lists of how to be happy and let’s focus on Jesus instead.

Who else doesn’t do their quiet times in the morning??? ✋🏻✋🏻✋🏻 (I know are we even Christians, right?)
-
Reading from your daily devo every morning isn’t what God asked you to do. Reading the bible app daily verse isn’t what God asked of you. He could care less about your set up, your organization, your journal, your highlighters.
-
He wants you to spend time with him period. He wants you to be in HIS word period. So many of us are so consumed with HOW we conduct our quiet times that we miss the only point of them. To grow in intimacy with our Father.
-
Put down your daily devo. Close out the Bible app. Look up from your study guide for a second and ask yourself...am I just doing this because it’s what good Christians do? Because it’s supposed to make me feel better? Because “it only takes 10 minutes?”
-
Am I actually growing intimately closer to my Father?

This cloche isn’t the only one I use but it is simple and very pretty. I add flat rocks to the bottom so that the young plant doesn’t get damaged from sitting in the water reservoir I leave at the bottom of the dish. Also, in my story I mentioned that the shape of the cloche helps to keep condensation off the plants. It’s funny right, we have the right part of the plant in the hydroculture and make special arrangements to keep the other parts of the plant out of the water. #biophilia #💚plants #plants #cloche #greenliving #bellcloche #thebelljar #pilea #roots #wellrooted #rootingplants #rootingenvironment

•
What does it mean to be “well rooted”? Especially for those people/animals/plants who are forcibly transplanted, whether through climate change, natural disaster, politics, social unrest, war, persecution...
•
What support systems, conditions, resources are needed in order for life to transplant well? For roots to grow and find sustenance in new soil?
•
I’m thinking about all this today, both in terms of myself, the nonprofit i work for (which recently moved location), and especially all those who have been torn out of their homes by the terrible floods in the Carolinas. The World Bank recently reported that more than 140 million people in just three regions of the developing world are likely to migrate between now and 2050. This huge displacement will of course mostly affect the poorest and most vulnerable.
•
What does it take to re-root whole communities?
•
Suggestions & comments welcomed. Maybe artists can do a better job than politicians!

Beetroot iced latte feels perfectly grounding and refreshing to sip on a late summer day and send some love to the roots and your root chakra. The root chakra is located at the base of the spine and associated with the color red. This chakra is the foundation, reflecting our survival instincts, family connections, safety and security. Red beetroots are a great way to balance the root chakra. •
Beets are a good source of essential nutrients, like B vitamins, iron, manganese, copper, magnesium, and potassium. Beets help to detoxify blood and the liver. Beets also contain betalains, potent antioxidants and anti-inflammatories.
•
1.5 cup (12 oz.) mylk of your choice;
2 teaspoons of beetroot powder;
1/2 teaspoon ginger powder;
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon;
A pinch of black pepper;
Star anise (optional)
•
Bring all the ingredients to steam, remove from the heat and chill for iced latte. It’s wonderful hot as well. I frothed some coconut milk with Shatavari powder to top my latte. You can also blend everything in a blender for a frothy drink.
