Stunning, stunning day today!!! Got out and about to appreciate it this morning and also listened to a podcast about the blue zones. The blue zone regions are the places in the world which have the longest lived people and centenarians! The 9 things the people from these areas have in common are; they move naturally in their daily lives, eat a diet high in plants, go to happy hour and have a glass of wine at 5 (!) they wake up in the morning with purpose, find ways to shift and shred stress, eat to 80% full, belong to faith based communities, put family first and have close friends with similar values. The power 9! Food for thought 💭 Are any of these practises that you have in your life?

When I started my weight loss journey at the start of the year, I had minimal support. I decided to lose weight for myself, but I struggled on my own.

In June my friend @c_beefit convinced me to start fitness classes with her. That worked for a while but it was hard to motivate myself to get to classes. So I quit.

After going back to the doctors for my back pain, I saw a poster for @ww in the waiting room and decided to apply for the three months free, as my BMI was over 30.

Between getting married and going on my honeymoon, I went to my first weight watchers meeting.

The people at the meeting are so supportive and have become my second family.

What I didn't expect is to have over 200 people following my story on Instagram. I do this for you!

I wanted to record my journey to reflect on my progress. Knowing how many people I've inspired makes this all worth while.

We rely on news sources to provide us with information about our world. News and media outlets publish articles and content that they think will capture the attention of their target audience. Since health and wellness is an area of interest for a lot of people, it’s not uncommon to come across articles about cutting edge research in nutritional science.

Unfortunately, the way the media outlets portray scientific research isn’t always very accurate. Well-conducted clinical studies RARELY make strong claims about causal relationships such as “taking vitamin F will prevent heart disease.” Skepticism is the foundation of scientific research, and good scientists will always question anything they discover before making grand claims. In reality, most successful research studies help us to better understand how certain things might be correlated with particular health outcomes, or help to ask new and better questions that bring us closer to solving problems.

Now from a media outlet standpoint, which headline do you think would get more attention and engagement?

A. “Vitamin F can reverse heart disease!”

B. “Consuming vitamin F may or may not improve cardiovascular health…..it’s really too early to tell, but this study provided some useful information that will help direct the focus of future studies in this area.”

At the end of the day, the media business is about engagement. So don’t jump to any conclusions when you read an article in men’s journal about how drinking too much water might kill you. When you read about scientific research, read it like a scientist would and be HIGHLY SKEPTICAL AND CRITICAL of everything you read.

🥦Stat with a base of Leafy greens or quarter of a plate of Cruciferous veggies
🌾Fill one quarter with a grain-based or starchy vegetables,
💪Fill one quarter with whole protein, such as beans, tofu. or Tempeh,
🍅Fill the last quarter with a aray of colourful vegetables and some herbs, 🥑Finishes with a small side of dressing or hummus or some healthy fats such as avocado,  nuts,  and seeds.

D E C I S I V E N E S S 🤷‍♀️ In today’s society we are swamped with choices and it can get confusing. I know one of my greatest teachings in this life is to be decisive. When I am feeling indecisive it’s a sure sign I’m out of alignment and not in the present moment.
The thing with indecisiveness is we doubt our choices and wonder if we have made the right choice. This behaviour can lead us to not deciding anything and feeling like we’re going around in circles and simply procrastinating feeling confused.

If we can connect with our intuition, it will never fail us, there is no room for doubt, we trust our choice inexplicably. We feel confident and empowered in all of our choices. We create the life we want to live with a sense of freedom and enjoyment.

I am obsessed with avocados... maybe more than peanut butter. I only discovered they were a fruit when I started to educate myself about nutrition (side note: if it contains a seed, it's classified as a fruit). Unlike most fruits, they have a subtle nutty flavour and AVOS ARE YOUR GOOD FRIEND! They are high in GOOD & HEALTHY fats — especially heart-healthy monounsaturated fat, and are known to be a great source of potassium, vitamins (B, K), minerals and fiber.

They also contain a fair amount of niacin, riboflavin, copper, magnesium, manganese and antioxidants.

About half of a medium avo contains around 130 calories, 12g fat (75%), 7g fibruous carbs (20%) and 2g protein (5%). Most of the carbs come from fiber, making it very low in digestible carbs, so will help prevent constipation.

I would limit to having avocado once per day using one of these meal ideas:
✖️spread mashed avocado on toast instead of butter or mayonnaise
✖️top scrambled eggs with diced avocado
✖️crack an egg into an avocado half (skin on) and bake at 425° for about 20 minutes
✖️add diced avocado to salads
✖️add pureed avocado to a baked potato instead of sour cream
✖️stir pureed avocado into hot pasta instead of marinara sauce
✖️top your favourite burger with avocado slices
✖️avocado on rice cakes seasoned with a pinch of PH salt and peppercorn pepper

I kicked this morning off with a brisk walk around the park with my dad 🌳 We were out for an hour, and it was hard work getting up the hill at the end 😅 I haven't been doing much exercise lately, so it was great to get my heart rate going.

It is a rare treat that I get to spend some 1-on-1 time with my dad because he is always working! He is my number 1 inspiration for working hard for what you want in life. His favourite saying is: "It's funny! The harder I work, the luckier I get" 😉

I'm either going to get the exact same pair that I'm wearing in this pic: swap navy suede for black leather....or something a bit looser like my old ones 👢
