MY COMIC SUPERHEROES: MARK BAGLEY. A lot of great names have drawn Spider-man. Huge names. Colossi in the world of comic books.
Kirby, Romita and McFarlane to name a few. But. While these titans were instrumental in developing Spider-man, no one has ever captured Spider-man quite like @officialmarkbagleyart. Now this is only my opinion, of course. And while I admit that might be based on nostalgia to an extent (he was the penciller on Amazing Spider-man when I began collecting as a kid), it’s mostly down to him being able to draw really, really good pictures of Spider-man (check out some of those awesome covers - Spidey clashing with the Scarlet Spider is epic). Sure, Joe Madureira’s work has unequivocally been the biggest influence on my style as a whole, but back in my teens I never drew Spider-man without picturing how Mark might do it (frustratingly, I could never replicate it). The head, the eyes, the feet, the webbing detail on the suit, the ‘thwipping’ webbing itself - I memorised every element of how Mark drew Spider-man. Amazing Spider-man indeed. I was heartbroken when Mark departed to launch Thunderbolts and I thought Spider-man would never be the same. Fortunately @steveskroce from X-Man came on board and did a fantastic job, his way of drawing ol’ Webhead definitely rubbing off on mine too. But I’ll wax lyrical about him another time. For now it’s all about Mark Bagley - the king when it comes to our friendly neighbourhood Spider-man. Cheers, Mark. #amazing#spiderman#webhead#markbagley#marvel#comics#artist#penciller#thunderbolts#steveskroce#xman
