I’ve been on Lesvos, at the heart of the #EuropeanRefugeeCrisis for the past week working with @yogasportforrefugees - it’s been such a bittersweet experience. .
The work being done by @yogasportforrefugees and @ohfcommunitycenter , and the amount of people/refugees they are helping, with such limited resources, is nothing short of incredible. It’s so easy to follow and support them. They’re always in need of volunteers and donations to continue their work. .
I didn’t take many pictures this week beacuase I wasn’t here as a photojournalist. I came here to learn. To see @estella_21 and help in whatever small way I could - I coached 3 track sessions, played basketball a couple of times, attempted some #acroyoga and joined the Muay Thai class. I met some great people - refugees, workers, volunteers. .
Sport connects people in such a great way. The refugees I met and trained with quickly became my friends. They’re friendly, smart, polite, energetic, quick to smile and laugh. The refugee camps of Lesvos are no place for them. Violence, disease, drugs, rape, theft are all constant threats. Moria Camp (flimsy tents) also happens to be the most overcrowded ‘living space’ on Earth. I’m wearing five layers, six if you count the buff, and I’m cold
It’s a complex issue, but some things are immediately clear to me. The EU Governments and the UNHCR who have the greatest power and responsibility to help, haven’t done enough. The majority of the Media has failed refugees too - often dehumanising them in an attempt to pursue a political agenda.
I just wanted to post some initial thoughts from my time here. #runningcommunity#refugeestories#onehappyfamily

CHICAGO 2019 🏃🏻🇺🇸
Can’t believe that after trying London and Berlin multiple times, my first abbott major will be in the US. 😜👍🏼 Fate, fortune, destiny. Not sure which one, but I’m sure that I’m crazy excited! 👊🏼😱
Thanks @chimarathon , kind of love you already! See you soon! 😘💪🏼
Someone else going? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Viagem em familia para 2019. Valeu Chicago, ja estou apaixonado. 🥰😘
I had to convince myself to go for a run in the dark today (and I also had to tell a bunch of people that I was going, so it would keep me accountable), but once I was out it was really nice 😊 The snow melted away yesterday, but today we got a new, thin layer and it made the city so soft ❄️ It was also a bit slippery, so my legs got an additional challenge, but all in all it was a great 10 K 🏃🏼♀️
I ran through the Xmasbox Light Maze that's next to Wembley Stadium this evening. It's an immersive light installation designed by Brut Deluxe, and it's made up of semi-transparent panels that reflect light rays in a rainbow colour spectrum. So the whole thing changes colour as you wander through it (which I found mesmerising!) And it plays soothing music too. Not your typical festive lights but I thought it was pretty cool!
It’s amazing what a little confidence boost will do to your mind and body! I’m the girl who’s always comparing myself to everyone else. Social Media can be like poison, making me feel not good enough sometimes. But I am proud of how far I have come and even though I feel like I have a long way to go in a lot of aspects of my life, right now I can say that I’m proud. I hope if you’re like me, and comparing yourself to someone else’s journey, just try to remind yourself how far you’ve come in your own. 💕 Also, look at that sky today! Weather in So Cal is pretty perfect right now. 😍⛅️
Schönen Abend 🧘♀️⭐ #nevernotrunning#sundown#outdoors (Werbung-verlinkte Personen)
Thank you for being a member of my community. For being one of my people. 2018 was an incredible year for me, and I’m ending it with peace in my heart, confidence in who I am, and excitement about the possibilities for 2019 and beyond. I’ve done the work to get here, and I couldn’t have done it without you being part of my life. Thank you!
When you go hells bells in the beginning of the race and finish with nothing left, and decide to just take a nap wherever you are even if where you are is cold, muddy, and covered in geese poop. This is cross-country.
