Salvia darcyii Vermilion Cliffs ® (Mexican Red Sage)
An outstanding selection introduced by Colorado's Plant Select® program, this rare Mexican sage will delight you and your visiting hummingbirds with its summer-long display of large, bright scarlet flowers held high on tall stems. A single plant noted for its exceptional cold hardiness by the horticulturists at Denver Botanic Garden (USDA zone 5), Vermilion Cliffs® is also a heat lover that thrives in full sun and enjoys hot planting sites. Leave its stems standing over the winter to provide winter interest and get the plant off to a faster start the following spring. This will also let the plant scatter some of its seeds, and if you're lucky, you'll get a few volunteer seedlings the following spring. 36"h x 24"w
We're offering this and more native Salvia at Pollinator Plant Days, August 9-11.
So.. a couple weekends ago my GPS took me a way I’d never have chosen, and I went past a nursery sign saying World Of Succulents... yesterday retraced my steps and what a treasure trove it turned out to be! Not only trays and trays of wee little succulents & accompanying larger ones, but also great service by Terence, who took us through the propagating section. They’ll also plant up your pots or planters, or create wedding or corporate favours. I noticed a veggie garden alongside the nursery, way too many cabbages & pumpkins for the size of the staff - Terence told me that they provide food to people in the community who struggle to feed themselves. Needless to say, that was more than enough motivation to invest in a tray! Please, Joburgers, support the Labyrinth Nursery - people who make pretty and do good ;) .
